        Well you wouldn't be able to take that sydney to london flight if you hadn't taken the london to syd flight. The ticket would be cancelled. You'd still need to get to london first and one way fares are generally not that much cheaper than returns.

      Exactly - sounds like those click frenzy deals where there's 3 TVs made of unobtainium being sold at 99 cents, and 10,000 people are all trying to buy it at once, and the server dies, and it generates a ton of clicks and even more annoyance.

          Sure thing. Not much the airline can do if you choose not to take the return. Some airlines have tried to sue but it hasn't worked out well for them.
