What's The Process in Porting out from Postpaid to Prepaid ?

I have approx. 2 weeks left in my PostPaid (5 December contract expiry) and i want to switch to PrePaid.

I want to minimize the $ damage charged by my PostPaid provider; how should I correctly port this service out?

Being PostPaid, i am not sure if the process is the same as PrePaid to PrePaid.

The 2 questions are:

  • Do I activate and initiate the port out on the same day (5 December) or to ensure $0 penalty, do I need to do it a day after (6 Dec) ?
  • Do I need to advise my PostPaid provider that I'm porting out? because with PrePaid, we don't do this advisory, we just activate and port.

  • Do I need to advise my PostPaid provider that I'm porting

It depends on the exact terms of your plan. I had to provide 30 days advance notice to Spintel. Your telco might not require notice.

  • I'd do it the day before, not the day of or the day after.

Edit: oh wait nvm I'm an idiot. Didn't read properly.

Yes, do it the day after!

    • Yes, do it the day after!

but if the porting takes (say) 7 days (extremely saying), does this mean that I will be charged 7 days by my PostPaid provider?

      • Yes, your number will still be with them and active.

  • Just port out when your postpaid is up.

  • who are you porting from, and to?

  • If you leave it until the new month has started, your current supplier will invoice you for that 30 days. Since you can’t leave early without a penalty, either call them, or keep it another few weeks.

this is incorrect; not all providers like that. Most would pro-rated.

On post paid you get any unused part returned to you. Prepaid you don't, but postpaid you do.

      • Very good. Maybe I have had bad experiences at the cheap end of the market.

        • Those cheap bastards ;)
