I love this site sometimes, I'll see y'all on the flight to Baku! OzBargain meet-up?

  • Got it for $337 via flight centre. Fingers crossed they honour it

    • +1

      Awesome!. What dates?

      • +14

        What dates?

        Medjool !!!

        • 31/7 to 15/8

        • Had a laugh, good one lol

      • +5

Why the (profanity) would your passport get cancelled because you're going to Azerbaijan? Do you even know where Azerbaijan is on a map? You're the type of person whose most exotic experience is getting chinese takeaway lmao - stop spouting bullshit and return to your $10 pub steaks and shitty family vacays to the gold coast.

        • -5

Why the (profanity) would your passport get cancelled because you're going to Azerbaijan?

You'll need to ask Peter Dutton.

          • +5

@jv: Yeh ok boomer, you literally have no idea what you're talking about. I cannot even begin to tell you how stupid and nonsensical that comment is.

I am so glad I do not have to go through life as an ignorant (profanity) that attempts to stay relevant by chinese-whispering headlines of alarmist shitrag "news" articles that have appeared on their sad facebook timeline.

        • stop spouting bullshit

          Travel at your own risk…

-Do not travel in the area of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and ceasefire line because of sporadic armed clashes. See Safety and security.
          - Do not travel to Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh region and the military occupied areas surrounding it because of the risk of armed conflict in this area. See Safety and security.
          - Avoid protests and demonstrations as they may turn violent. See Safety and security.
          - Australia doesn't have an Embassy or Consulate in Azerbaijan.

          • +2

@jv: I visited Nagorno-Karabakh last year and was perfectly fine. It's part of Armenia so you should be safe unless Azerbaijan army attack. Azerbaijan have mostly been in "attack" mode while Armenians in "defence" to protect their borders. Armenian people are good, Azerbaijani not so good. So I'd think twice about going to any part of Azerbaijan.

            • -1

              @gezza90:

so you should be safe unless Azerbaijan army attack.

Oh.. Thank you. That is so reassuring…

          • @jv: Yes, because you suddenly being caught in an overseas conflict = the Home Affairs Minister cancels your passport. Can't wait for all those Australians in Hong Kong and Chile to be suddenly stranded because Australia decides to just cancel their passports :) /s

Do you even understand what you're arguing? Obviously not because then you wouldn't be posting irrelevant drivel. I seriously cannot comprehend how people can go through life clinging to half-baked paranoia they've formed off an unrelated One Nation poster they read one time. Have fun in your tiny, narrow world closed off by your own ignorance.

Booked! $363 Expedia. I wonder if we should have an OzBargaine meet-up in Baku?

    • That would be hilarious

  • +1

Was so tempted but then my rational side kicked in and remembered I have a job, a dog and a girlfriend haha…also figured by the time I book flights/luggage to Melbourne and an onward flight to somewhere else it'll be more around the $800 range. Fingers crossed it's honoured for those booking, what an adventure!

  • Does one need a passport to book?

    • If booking through Flight Centre you can add the details later

    • No, you can get your passport later as long as the details match the passport you should be fine.

  • Tried booking through FlightCenter but said was sold out.

  • Give me Oman or Jordon return for this price.

    • You can have gold at $5 a kg.

    What an Azerbargain

    • +5

Scotty needs to register that website to expand the business into the Caucasus

  • Looks like the price has been fixed at FC, still showing at other OTAs

    • can you give me a link to book? I can't seem to find anything

      • Got via skyscanner and auntbetty, expedia, lastminute.com.au, wotif.com, BYOJet show up

  • 31st Jul to 15th Aug

How can I get this one??

I can't find this one pls..

  • +1

Don’t forget Australians need a VISA for here. +$45 And you should apply as soon as possible after ticketing.

    • ASAP is a bit rich - it took like 3 days for them to process mine. It's just an e-visa.

  • +3

damn, the azerbaijan gp is in june

    • Yeah if this was close to the GP I would be all over it.

  • +3

Ticket price changed from AU$364.76 to AU$1,141.76. Because prices change often, we recommend booking now to lock in this price.

    Doh!

  • looks like all sold out

    • it's jacked.

  • Great find. Hopefully FC honours it.

    • +3

Mine's already ticketed with Etihad - can manage my booking and everything! Wowee, this is bug if it comes off.

      • What did you mean by ticketed with Etihad? I booked via Flight Centre and Got booking confirmation with all the details from Flight Centre in their letter head but not Etihad. Though it mentioned the airlines are Etihad. How did you get Etihad tickets?

        • +1

I can edit my booking on Etihad website with the six letter code (eg. DIGFJY) in the confirmation email.

          • @thrillho: Holy S***. You are right. So we're going then??

      • Do you have a ticket number or just a PNR? It would be a string of numbers starting with 607-

      • I can see my booking on Etihad and Virgin websites. Not sure if seeing a booking on websites still guarantees a seat on the plane

  • +1

    Where's this?
Ozbargain purchase now - ask questions later.

    • One of the used-to-be USSR countries that don't need national support.(the other one is Russia)

  • +1

Dammit looks like all gone. Good find though!

  • Amazing deal. Managed to book a family holiday.. Fingers crossed they'd honour it..

    • +1

Check if you can add seats with your booking. Normally if so it means flight is ticketed.

  • Man this is the best price I’ve ever seen! Well done! I was planning to go to Istanbul next year anyways. It’s not that far from there 😂

    • Istanbul next year anyways. It’s not that far from there

LOL. Good one. Only 1800 km. About the same as Melbourne to Alice Springs. :-)

  • I waited too long - all gone now! Amazing bargain

  • Hopefully it honoured

  • Goone! was about to press buy….

  • +2

Oh man I was just about to purchase…

GL to those who nabbed tickets. Hope it's honoured.

So happy I saved $360 bucks. I get a free holiday in Melbourne.

  • +2

Don't go booking hotels.Virgin have good form on cancelling error fares.

  • Good luck to all, just following to see if these get cancelled. Was tempting to jump on these but transit times and too many changes for me to go somewhere not on my radar.

    • Been ticketed already. Legit

      • +6

Just because it's ticketed doesn't mean they can't or won't cancel it.

  • What’s bargain !! No clues where it is but I must buy like the others here

  • Great get for those who snapped it up.

  • Can't see any return flights available that cost less than $1,000

    • Yeah, I think it's all over red rover.

  • Great find OP! definitely gave Flight Centre and Expedia some work this morning hahaha!

  • Bloody work causing me to miss a bargin! Went to Baku a few years ago, cool place for a few days. Cheap flights to elsewhere in Europe also.

  • Haven't been there but it should be an awesome place to visit.
A rich country with lots of oil, great food, mountains and culture.

  • Damn missed out.
    :( any left

  • My mum was born in Azerbaijan and she would be thrilled to return home to see her brother! I can't get onto her right now ohhhhhh god

    • +1

Too late if you’re trying to book tickets now.

  • +4

I didn't get one however for those that did you should be able to check the ticket through tripcase.

    https://tripcase.com

Create a free account and then select create a new trip on the left. You should then be able to "add an item" then link a booking. This process should show the flights and after clicking documents at the top.

Opening the documents should reveal a Arranger Itinerary and eTicket with the eTicket when opened showing the flights and if they're confirmed or not.

The tripcase website is run by Sabre which is the company that provides Virgin and Etihads booking system.

    • Thanks for heads up on Sabre. If my booking is showing in there (which it is), does that mean they won't cancel the ticket?

      • +2

No but assuming the tickets are showing confirmed then you've got a better chance.

With OTA (online travel agents - flight center/experdia etc) it can take them a while to ticket so if they haven't ticketed before the price changes back then it'll be automatically canceled. Even if you've got the ticket it's still not 100% confirmed.

There have been a few people who when mistake fares are released say that it's not a mistake fare… In this case Etihad released an incorrect T fare (Economy Deal) this morning which resulted in the fare component being around $80 instead of ~$800. It'll be up to Etihad to decide if they cancel or not and given it's a mistake fare there is not much that can be done until they make up their minds but it's quite obvious that $80 + taxes is not the normal price or even a sale fare from Melbourne to Baku.

Just don't book anything like extra flights, accomodation etc until you get a green light from Etihad (this could take a while for them to decide). Australia unlike other place (USA for example) doesn't have any protections regarding mistake fares whereas if the flight was to/from the US then you could book other stuff and if the airline cancels they'd be liable for your other bookings.

        • Thanks Henrus, that's really helpful advice. What would the greenlight from Etihad be/look like then? Or is it just a wait and see thing and if not cancelled within a couple of months all good?

          • +2

@fightshatner: I'd wait a few days and see how this plays out. It's now just 8am in Abu Dhabi so someone would be showing up to work making this decision.

In past mistake fares people have been given a green light that their ticket is legit via an email, twitter etc.

I wouldn't call them now, cause they'd most likely have no idea but waiting a month or two and seeing if the ticket valid would also work. The tripcase given it's directly connected to Etihad's booking system will show the most up to date ticket status, so if they do cancel it you'll see it in tripcase.

Hong Kong airlines comes to mind with their $600 return Business class fare from the US to Asia. They tweeted about it then those onboard got handed a card.

            https://apex.aero/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Screen-Shot-201…

            • @henrus: Tried to check my booking with Tripcase. It shows up there when linking the booking but no details saying it is confirmed other than Confirmation Number which is the booking reference number.

              • @zinga77: You need to click documents at the top after linking the booking.

It should list the ticket (or tickets if multiple people) and will look something like this:

                https://i.postimg.cc/MZFpcvm9/Screen-Shot-2019-11-20-at-4-09…

(I've cut out some personal details so you'll see passenger names, ticket number, booking reference and carrier listed)

If you then click on the eticket it should give more details including the conformation status of the booking.

If no eticket appears then I'm sorry to say but your booking was never processed during this mornings mistake fare and there is next to no chance of them honouring it.

                • @henrus: Thanks for the instructions. The tickets are showing there and the arranger itinerary shows confirmed for each leg. The eticket have no mention of confirmed though. It has "Booking Status OK TO FLY".

                  • @zinga77: Yep "OK TO FLY" is Etihad's version of confirmed.

I guess it's just a waiting game to see now if they'll accept the (what was obviously) a mistake fare.

                    • @henrus: Mine has 'on hold' so I'm guessing it's going to get cancelled. My other trips I have on there have 'confirmed' and 'ok to fly'.

EDIT: just spoke to BYO who I booked with and they said it is confirmed and will be ticketed in the next 24-48 hours. So will wait and see!

  • Been trying to find these fares since this morning.

Through another website when i went to book the flights jumped in cost.

    Damn.

    • -1

You need to log onto the dark web.

      • or just close the blinds while browsing ozbargain

  • Does anyone know if it is possible to book a connecting flight to Turkey or Georgia on the same day I arrive and leave without entering the country? I'm happy to go there at the end of the trip but it will save an extra entry visa if I only enter once.

I assume my luggage won't get checked all the way through even if I use an airline partner as it will be a separate booking.

So can you collect luggage before border control and check in for the next flight from there?
