HP X360 14" Touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook $699 + Receive Bonus $300 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi

200

Normally retails for $999, was recently on sale in September for $679.

JB currently running a promo where you receive up to a $300 gift card when purchasing a Chromebook. This particular model scores a $300 gift card.

Stock is limited, however I was able to order one this morning at a store which didn't have stock. Received the gift card on the spot.

One of the better spec'd Chromebooks with a proper Intel processor and 8gb ram. Similar spec'd Chromebooks selling for over $1,000.

  • Represents about a 30% discount. Even at 700*0.8=$560…unless you were desperate for a cheap 2-in-1 it's a bit iffy.

    • Agree. If you have to give away $300 worth of gift card to sell these units then something is wrong

Can these things be wiped and have Windows installed on them?

Don't downvote legit questions please :/

Basically no. You can install Linux on at least some of them

      • which you don't really need to do thanks to project crostini

    • I believe it's disabled in firmware but may well be a workaround

    • -3

100% Yes, you can install Windows(you need to buy a Windows licence). HP has a Windows version of the HP Pavilion x360 14" 2-in-1 Laptop.

      • How do you know this?

        • -3

HP has a Windows version of the HP Pavilion x360 14" 2-in-1 Laptop.

    • for 99.9% of the chromebooks the answer is NO

And it's not even $399. You get $1000 worth of jb goods for $700. So it's a 30% discount on $699.

Glorified android phone that can't make calls.

I installed UberEats on my chromebook lol. Crostini made chromebook way more usable.

    • if you are in to gaming or very specialized software, your hate is understandable, but there is a huge number of users out there, for whom the chromeOS is more than enough) at some point I realized that the only thing I do on my laptop is emails and web development in a cloud IDE, so I gave up windows and switched to chromebooks…now I have 10-12 hrs of battery life, 4 seconds boot-up time, instant go to sleep and awake, don't need to worry about viruses and super quick and smooth UI without paying a fortune, so I am quite happy with chromebooks

Lots of Chromebook hate here. They serve a purpose for a market.
This one is rather overpowered for a Chromebook imho but great value.

They serve a purpose for a low-budget market

So many people are so sensitive any time Chromebooks are brought up here… hey it's okay if you don't like them, nobody is making you. But a lot of people do like them, myself included.

    • +2

its not that. its the fact that they put hardware in there very capable of running windows but lock it down so you cant. Even with MACs you can run windows if you choose to but no with chromebooks…

    • +3

      Can't agree more.
I'm buying one for my father who is nearly 70.. these are ready to use and easy to use, similar to what he uses on his phone…

  • Can kids play Roblox on this?

    • +1

My daughter will start year 7 next year. Chromebook is the requirement for her IT device at school(no Windows or OS/X) due to fast bootup/response and cloud computing.

      • +1

Exact reason I purchased it, school device.

    • Yes, is my understanding. Roblox usually gets a special call out for how well it's optimised for Chromebook

Was going to pull the trigger for my daughter until I checked the brightness, really low dim display only ~215 Nits, for me the min should be at least 275 Nits or more with the sun on your back you wont be seeing much and combined with only 64GB kills it for me :( Thanks for posting anyway OP.

Most Chromebooks have small internal storage. The intention is cloud storage.

      • Agreed, it is decently priced with the JB voucher and not so much of an issue with Storage even though it is a very slow 64gb EMCC storage itself, but the screen is what most people I think will have a problem with.
will have major problems in a sunny or brightly lit environment, especially with the glossy screen; then the rest of specs do not matter to me at all, no matter how powerful the CPU is on a chromebook. I think HP drop the ball with the ultra low brightness and colour accuracy; as many reviewers mentioned it is even below average when compared with other lower specs models. I would have bought this is a heartbeat if only it had at least 260 nits brightness; at 214nits set at 100% brightness; it is going to look rather dim during daytime or anywhere bright.

        • "very slow 64gb EMCC storage"
I wouldn't call it very slow, it's about 4 times slower than SSD and similar to HDD (that's still present in many laptops)

  • No stock in my area :(
