Bought one today, great laptop as long as you are happy living in the Chromeos environment. This is my fourth Chromebook and the best yet. Great deal.

    • What happened to the other 3?

      • +1

Two have been sold and one more will be sold soon. I started on Chromebooks pretty early so four laptops over several years.

Got mine at a higher price with less RAM a few months ago. Great Chromebook.

Got one yesterday. First time bought Chromebook. Great deal.

    • Hey HHK
Can you PM me I got one as well and want you to test something . I think I might have got a dud one

Can you install and run Geekbench 5 and tell me what scores you get with everything else closed ?

Mine is running quite slow I only got 400 for multi core and 410 for single core which is apparently 4x slower than a galaxy S8

      • Geekbench 768 single, 1284 multi core

        • Hi Pete,

Thanks for that yeah those are around the scores I'm getting now as well after a Power wash
It must have been a bug somewhere in the system

          Thanks for testing though :)

Does MS Office run on these?

    • +1

u can just download the apps + pay

but why MSoffice… while Office suite / google Suite is better

      • I'm looking at using one of these instead of a Windows laptop. Apart from usual social media,I use ms office, some photo editing and need to print on the network.

        • +1

Like echocae said you could use Android or web versions of MS Office, which are okay but not fully-featured. On a Chromebook you're better off with Google Docs or even a Linux suite like LibreOffice.

        • Ic… i use to use MS office.. but now I use Google Suite , but If i need MS office compatibility, I use office suite Pro… and i dont miss MS office at all now… as is fully compatible and look n feel the same as MS office

This is an amazing deal and for once a deal in Australia that's better than in the USA. By my calculations if you treat the gift card as cash this thing costs $459. Remove the GST component divide by 1.1 = $417.27. At the current exchange rate that's $282.14usd

I just did a google search and the black Friday deals in the USA has this thing selling for $450usd before any sales tax! Thanks Harvey!

  • I've been using Chromebooks for 2 years straight and they are awesome

    • +1

Absolutely. In 2014 I bought my Toshiba 13.3" Chromebook in the US from Best Buy for about $330. At the time the $Au was on par with the $US. Still going as fast as it was when I first bought it. Has OTA updates and security, so no need for 3rd party software. Battery is not quite what it was, but I still get over 4 hours of screen time, it used to be about 6 hours. Very light and a wonderful full HD screen.

No need to update just yet but the updates will stop end of June next year, so keeping an eye out for a new one. This is very tempting.

  • Just looked at Officeworks and they're selling the same at $947.

Might pop down to a store to check it out.

  • Do these come with a stylus?

    • No, it doesn't, and from what I have learnt so far, no dedicated stylus is on sale.
But there might be some stylus out there would work with it.

  • Ordered one, thanks OP

  • I just brought HP x360 14-DA0000T 14" Touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook $699 (i3, 8g and 64G) and $300 JBHIFI gift card. happy days..

    • Was very tempted by this deal also!

    • same, but i'd prefer the ASUS, pity i jumped the gun too soon.

  • im laptop noob

this or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501888? assuming they're the same price

    • What will you mainly use it for? The Chromebook's likely to feel slightly more premium & snappy. But if there's a chance not having regular Windows applications will bug you, you might want to go for the Acer.

    • I have a Chromebook, bought in 2014. Only use it for basic email, you tube, a bit of netflix and web related stuff. Only cost me $300 and still as fast as new. Comes with free security and updates which with this one will continue until June 2006.

Thoroughly recommend, especially with light / intermediate usage. Will be able to use Android apps too. which will improve over time.

  • Recent computer alliance eBay deal had it for $800… (8gb ram also). So already cheaper, plus gift card! Great deal!

  • lol fuq missed it. whoops. hope it comes back before christmas

  • Status: Processing…. :(

    • +1

It'll get there. I picked mine up from Melbourne QV this morning.

Check your email spam folders cause I got the pickup notification there. The HN website didn't update and still shows "processing" for me.

      • Thanks for the hope :)

        HN online isn't the greatest.

  • Anyone who's received theirs already - how's the display?

Mine has a greeny-yellowy-grey tinge which is quite obviously not right for something which is supposed to be more colour accurate than my old C302. Seems to be the same issue this Reddit user had in fact:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/blrxcc/is_it_poss…

I'm going to try to swap it for a new one and see if that helps.

    • +1

That is definitely not right. The whites on mine are really white no tinge of any other colour. Looks like a return is in order. Good luck

      • +1

        Thanks for comfirming that!

      • +1

I demoed the off colours and messed-up gamma levels in-store and they've ordered a new one for me - due next week.

Tempted to start it up and test in the shop as I collect it, given the reputation ASUS has for poor QA on these (and my experience so far).

        • +1

I would test it in store. :)

Still waiting on mine and will check for this issue asap thanks to you cheers!

    • Well would you believe it - the replacement one, while a lot better, still does not have gamma @ 2.2 across the board either! Red appears to be sitting at around 1.95.

But I worry that if I take this one back as well the next one could be even worse! And it's not like I can just have them open up heaps of boxes for me to pick the "least worst one"…

Could anyone who reads this and has one please do this test in "native" display scaling, and let me know if you have perfect 2.2 gamma across the board?

      Thanks
