HP Spectre X360 13.3-Inch AMOLED 4K 2-in-1 Ultrabook i7-1065G7, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM $2399 (Save $600) @ Harvey Norman

100

Ive been waiting on a deal with the New HP Spectre models and this seems to be a pretty good price.

Although the image does appear to be incorrect (the previous generation).

Specs on the screen are -

13.3" diagonal 4K UWVA BrightView micro-edge AMOLED multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass with anti-reflection Corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™, 400 nits, 100% DCI-P3 (3840 x 2160)

Unfortunately as I have found across the Spectre models its hard to comp against other retailers as the model numbers will all vary slightly.

Officeworks has there new model - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-13-3-sp…

$100 more expensive, only 8GB of Ram and the screen appears to only be 1920 x 1080.

    4K on a 13" display is a waste.

    • It really isn't. 1080p at 13" is comfortable if your eyesight is OK, and while Windows display scaling is still terrible it handles 2x scaling better than any of the non-integer levels.

    • +1

      I would agree, I would be happy enough without it as I think the Spectre screen is good anyway at 1920 x 1080.

      The Officeworks model does have the down spec screen but is more expensive at the moment, so for the actual 4K screen price its good.

  • +3

    Yeah. I don't understand why there's so many 4K options and no 2K options. I feel like that makes more sense.

    • The film industry likes 4k content, so the laptop manufacturers try to match them. Also bigger numbers make the spec sheet more marketable to people who just like seeing big numbers.

      • +1

        Worse for battery life though

  • +1

    But the oled is interesting.
    Wonder if burn in will be a factor

    Not considering theprice… This one or the XPS 2 in 1?
    I was readyt to pull the trigger for the XPS but this one is tempting!

    Does it come with leather sleeve and pen as well?

      XPS:
      ++ 32GB ram option
      ++ 16:10 aspect ratio screen
      — General garbage DELL QC issues
      — Very dirt prone black finish that is not very durable

      HP:
      ++ OLED
      ++ Better build quality
      ++ Metal case resistant to dirt and fingerprints
      ++ USB-A port
      ++ Cheaper
      — 16GB RAM limit
      — 16:9 screen
      — Thicker

      • actually i was looking at the similar specced xps 2 in 1 (i7, fhd, 512gb, 16 gb). The only main difference would be the 4k screen, currently on sale at about $2500.

        Main use would be photo editing on the go. ( yes i know a 15 would be better but I need portability)

          • @retroranger: correct! :)
            also, additional 5% and cashback 12%

        • The OLED of the HP is the superior screen and would be better for photo editing. However If you are planning on using lightroom classic with a big catalogue then the 32Gb RAM option of the XPS would be useful. Lightroom classic is an infuriatingly bloated piece of crap that uses huge amounts of RAM. Unfortunately it is the only program that provides cloud sync of edits across all devices, so begrudgingly i continue to use it. Lightroom CC is lighter but does not have the features of classic. If you are not using lightroom and instead say Capture One, then 16GB is ok and the HP OLED would be great for editing.

          All the Dells i have had (m3800, Precision 5520 (same as current 15' XPS)) have been generally crap with many hardware and driver issues. The m3800 had the ssd and moterboard replaced and the screen 5(!) times. The 5520 had constant sleep problems (would not go to sleep, or reboot on resume). Also one hinge broke and the screen became wobbly (i looked inside and the hinge was attached to the carbon fibre housing with tiny crap rivets that just sheared off under careful daily use - the only way to fix this was to get a new chassis). The HP's I have had in the past (elitebook range) have been great in comparison. As such, personally I would steer clear of anything made by Dell.

          • @qvinto: Thanks for that.
            I currently use a 5520 with 32gb and the quadcore i7 7820 of ram but recently my company prevents to install Adobe software (even if i managed to ) and I am looking to something more portable. I found this Dell to be really good!

            At the end the dell would be $2k on the outlet with 2 years premium warranty vs $2.4k of the HP with one year only..

            Any ideas if the HP includes the stylus and the sleeve as I have seen in a Youtube video?

            Cheers

            • @ets27: Well i guess that is just the Dell QC lottery. Some units are good, some are bad. I now use a Surface Book 2 15 and it is much better built and more reliable than the 5520 - plus it has a nice grey metal finish which always looks clean.

              • @qvinto: damn so hard to decide.
                My bet was that the Dell with the premium support would be good

                • +1

                  @ets27: Well go for that and if there are any issues you i suppose you can return/exchange it.

                  • @qvinto: Yes I will read some more reviews tonight but the idea of saving $400 is not bad. Thanks for everything!

                    • @ets27: Where does it state Dell is 2 Years? And Premium? Without an additional cost.

                      I think you will find with a purchase of $2k+ your consumer rights will mean either Dell or HP will need to support for 2 years.

                      • @retroranger: It's an additional warranty that costs about $230 on top of the $1849 cost on the Dell outlet

                        • @ets27: But Outlet is a refurbished model? I just want to double check as Im pretty sold on the Spectre but I want to make sure I have thought of all angles.

                          • @retroranger: Correct.
                            The spectre tempt me so much for the quality of the screen but it's annoying it's a 16:9

                          • @retroranger: did you make a decision yet?

                            • @ets27: Someone on REDDIT

                              https://www.reddit.com/r/spectrex360/comments/e1soo8/first_i…

                              Posted this review. And this on the down spec model from the above deal.

                              So I'm going to buy the HN deal, as I think its a good price, good 2-in-1, screen may be overkill but id rather have more than less.
                              I don't think pricing will get much better than this over the next 3 months. But stranger things have happened but you have to take the leap at sometime.

                              • @retroranger: Yes, I will go for the HP as well.
                                I am to scared to get a refurbished. I read about people very satisfied but also terrible stories!
                                Thanks for all the advices!

                                  @ets27: Picked mine up today. Really impressed at the form factor. Its a beautiful sleek unit. Screen looks amazing. Can confirm it didn't come with a pen but did include a sleeve.

                                  • @retroranger: Cool! Hopefully I'll pick up mine tomorrow! :)
                                    Just confirming… It is the black and copper, right?

                                    • @ets27: Mine is Blue and Gold….. wasnt a huge issue for me. I was probably thinking the same as you liking that combo, but I think it still looks amazing.

                                      • @retroranger: Ah right I haven't seen that combo! If you have an spare minute can you post a pic? Cheers

      Sleeve yes, pen no. The 8th gen CPU models came with the pen but not these 10th gen models.

      • How did you find out?

        • +1

          Some have already been delivered. I got mine on Monday. Confirm no pen and no cables other than the power cord. Sleeve included.

          • @Obar123: ah right thanks so much for the info. Any comments on the laptop itself? what do you use it for mainly if I can ask?

            cheers mate

            • @ets27: I had an older one … 8th gen i7 and the new one is much smaller. Screen size is the same but the size of the machine is much reduced. The display looks like an improvement also. I haven't really set it up properly yet so I can't comment beyond that. I use it to work from home (external display), take notes and give presentations etc in meetings and email when using as a mobile office.

            @Obar123: Thanks for the helpful info. Sad to think a $3000 2in1 laptop did not ship with a stylus :(

            Just unboxed mine and didnt find the stylus. Contacted HP support to confirm if it should have shipped with one coz i kinda expected it did. They're bloody clueless. Asked me to contact retailer if they shipped me a stylus with the laptop inside the box. Err…if HP doesn't know whether the laptop should have a stylus in the sealed box, how will the retailer know ??

            Glad the ozb community is more helpful.

  • So given there's an AMOLED display on a monitor, are there any OLED monitors?

    • You can get 55" OLED monitors but not anything smaller as far as i am aware

    • Yes there is.

      Here you go. The only OLED monitor. Not going to be cheap though and it's a special order.

      Or you could use that money to buy 4 or 5 LG OLED 55" TVs, one for each room.

      • $7500 for a 21 inch 4K OLED monitor!

        • Unfortunately, lack of supply of OLED monitors means prices are going to be very high and aimed at the enthusiast who can afford it.

          TVs and phones have a lot more supply so they are cheaper.

    Looks like this is not 2 in 1, please double check and correct title if possible.

    • This is a 2 in 1. It converts into Tablet mode. Check out the sixth image on the HV site.

    • It is called 360 for a reason, I guess… :)
