Apple MacBook Pro 16" 9th Gen i9 1TB $3959 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys

290

Credit to wahyd4's deal on the i7/512GB model.

Go big or go home! If you're going to spend this much on a MacBook, you may as well go i9 and 1TB ;-)

Until Officeworks updates their pricing (not updated as of posting), you can price beat down to $3761.05 (I have confirmed the match on the phone with Officeworks).

Original Apple RRP $4399

Wish they'd have higher memory options for pre-built. A lot more useful than a higher end CPU for most use cases.

    • Yes, agree - makes it close to impossible to get discounts on anything higher than 16GB (aside from EDU discount)

      • There's also employee programs which most won't have access to and is less of a discount than EDU as an option. Otherwise if its work related an options to pay outright and take advantage of any sort of tax benefits you can such as claiming it as a deduction or salary sacrificing.

    • Agreed. Though the custom built bump up to 32GB costs $600 more…

Go home or get a job that gets you one of these for work.

    • They don't pay as well as jobs that require you to pay for one yourself

      • -2

Really? Everyone at my workplace gets a MBP.

Only need to work at a bigger company.

        • -1

I'm so sorry to hear that.

          • @porsche804: What? Companies being smart enough to give people MBPs and pay them less?
Yeah, it is true, we will charge more if work refuse to provide MBPs for us.

Jokes aside, they are just laptops. Just because it has an Apple logo, doesn't make it unbelievable. It's just easier not to carry the MBP to and from work every day. The projects we work on require Macs.

Please check your company's discount offers. Some companies have EPP like deals with Apple (Samsung, Microsoft etc…). Could be around 10% for Apple products (including accessories). If after the discount, the price is roughly the same, might as well get it from Apple as you get the 14 day no question asked money back guarantee.

16G RAM is such a shame for this system.

    • Almost certain it's intentional. As that way 'power/pro' users will have to order through Apple = 100% of the profit margin to them.

      • +1

If you need 32GB RAM or more, then you can certainly afford a customised one.

At work, one needs to justify why 32GB or 64GB is needed before work would provide a MBP with 32GB or more, standard is 16GB. Customised ones also tend to take longer to procure. One of my work colleagues had to wait a month for his 64GB model.

In addition to the 2 base models listed on the Apple website there's a secret high end model that's readily available at most Apple stores.

If you configure a machine with the following specs and check store stock it will be available for immediate pick up,

          2.4 GHz i9, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, 8 GB 5500M.
It will cost you $6159 ($5629 with EDU discount).

Sadly i9 in Macbook is throttling and slower than the i7 version due to Apple crappy thermal design.

    • Seems no one really gives a f.

      • I'm truly amazed at the support for Apple in this post.

get 10% off ultimate giftcard @ woolworths ending today. brings the price down by further 10%.

    • Hi @Jit0809, do you have a link to the Woolworths 10% gift card discount perhaps? I can't seem to find it.

      • see the catalogue for this week ending today. 1000 points on $50 ultimate gc

        • lol you would need 79 gift cards for that to actually work

  • Now they're talking about apple.com.au's black friday, with those "up to $320" gift cards, does anyone know if the 10% price match will apply with the gift cards?

Also officeworks out of stock for full QLD and NSW, so the 15% discount (Price match + 5%) sounds impossible??

Keen to get the best bargain in this big boy

    • You can still price match with officeworks and get it delivered to your address or a local store.
iJust confirmed that with officeworks over the phone.

    • 5% price matching a 10% discounted item is 14.5% total discount

      • +1

i guess that 0.5% is a deal breaker

  • Is the difference between the two models just the extra storage, the i9 instead of i7 processor and the different graphics card?

  • I too would like to know if apple would price match + the $320 GC.
I cant see why not. Isn't educational pricing about 10% off anyway? they will prob still offer GC to educational pricing im guessing..?

    • I'm looking at the i9/1TB model.
      Apple sticker price: $4399
      Apple EDU price: $4079
That's exactly $320 off. Coincidence? I think not!
I think the $320 GC offer is just to give EDU pricing for the public as a Black Friday offer.

Also if you have UNiDAYS you can get a slightly better price. 9.13% discount vs Apple's 7.28% EDU discount.
The i9/1TB comes down to $3997.40

  • Does anyone know about these ultimate gift cards? Plusrewards seem to have 15% off, and they work at The Good Guys by the looks of it.
Are you able to make your own GC amount which would bring an extra 15% off the MBP sale price, or it is just the standard 10, 50, 100 etc GC's?
I am not a member, but it would be worth signing up if you can make your own GC amount
    Link: https://www.plusrewards.com.au/dailytelegraph/offers/enjoy-1…

  • The terms and conditions of that offer States 1 redemption per account. Unless they are willing to issue a gift card with a very large amount I think the benefit is minimal.

  • FUK, officeworks already dropped price to match them. anybody know if there were 20% ebay deals black friday 2018?

    • officeworks is still above the good guys price
i just called them and they can't price match because there's no stock in queensland

      :(

    • sorry i was looking at the i7 version

  • So Officeworks have no 16" MBP i9/1TB in stock online or in store. Is this a ploy so they don't have to price beat?
How did you go @drmac ?

    • I ordered one from officeworks on Wednesday at 8am. Was told I would get it that afternoon. Afternoon turned into Thursday. And now it says Friday. So I called.

They have no stock. They won’t until Monday. It won’t be delivered until Wednesday, if at all.

      Disappointing.

    • Ordered Tuesday evening - was meant to be ready Fri 29th, now pushed back to Monday 2nd. We'll see how it goes…
I might check out the Apple store tomorrow to see what combination of price match/gift cards etc.. work out (if any) and cancel OW order if I get close in price.

      • I am hoping that Apple do the GC also but last year they didn’t do the GC for the newer products that had just been released so I’m not liking our chances on the GC being offered for products such as the 16” and the AirPods pro.

Ordered mine Wednesday morning over the phone and received this evening in Sydney.
First ever Mac for me! I've been a die hard Windows user for years, this should be an interesting change.

        • +1

You'll love it. Plus you can always use a virtual machine or dual-boot with BootCamp if you want to run Windows. I do that to play some Windows games.

  • This deal was really tempting, especially with the OW price beat. But I decided to future proof my purchase and upgrade the RAM to 32GB and while I was there increase the VRAM to 8GB too. As its a custom build you have to go through Apple, but as it was a business purchase I managed to get some discount. Still the most expensive computer I've ever bought. If the older models are anything to go by, (I have a 2015 currently) this one should last several years – especially as it's not my main machine. Just hope I've made the right call and the extra $1000 is worth it! Damn Apple and their ridiculous RAM pricing.
