    ATI makes honey now?

I can't see how this is worth $1699 RRP
As it does not even have USB 3.0!
Nor a 1080p screen…I guess the CPU is the major plus

    • Not everyone wants / needs those features. Personally I wouldn't want 1080p in a 15.6" screen. Dot pitch waay too small. As for USB 3.0, I don't even use a USB 2.0 HDD anymore, and while I might get a 3.0 one in the future it's not a big priority.

As it stands, this is a very good portable performance laptop, with the perfect features for what I'd want. Unfortunately, I can't really afford spending $850 on a laptop when my current one still does 90% of what I need…

You know you can increase the size of fonts and icons by 25%, going from 96dpi to 120dpi.

        • Not for everything.

        • True, also (using one right now) I'm finding it plenty easy to read without any magnification. I thought my old screen at ~100ppi was hard to read, and sorta freaked about going to a 135ppi screen. Though now I sit further away from the laptop and everything is easier to read. It's just all clearer :)

Sort of counter intuitive, but they're great.

      • yeah for $850 it is good, but not at $1699

+1 - who wants to wait months for a cashback offer? grr.

+1 … I am waiting for my cash back for same laptop from Same company… (LENOVO Ideapad Y560P) since April !!

every 15 -20 days I get a mail saying "we are looking into it"….

for $100 they spent 3 months !! But I am a proud Ozbargainer… hence wont let a penny go !!!! I'll chase them to the end :P

  • yeah should be 17" and usb 3 !

  • Is that a ATI Radeon HD6570M?

It might have been worth $1699 once upon a time but probably much less now. $849 is a reasonable deal.

    • Yep, Capilano XT = 6570M.

Question for COTD rep: Can we get a config that has a higher screen res?

Also can we get a coupon code for OZBargain users? :)

  • Sorry don't like buying IT from COTD, but this laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad Y560-4397M2M) looks around $200 more from most retailers on Static Ice…so it it's what you want….

  • I hate cash backs because they just factor it in the price that 30 % of the claims never come through and the manufacturers make it bloody hard for people to get a cashback.

Last christmas samsung promised a blu ray player that we could claim for free and then added 39 $ postage and delivery free and delivered the player a full 4 months after.

I will Never buy Samsung TV again!

    • I got a Samsung TV during the same deal - the postage cost was made clear in the rebate details, plus the TVs were fairly cheap already at the time, so the BluRay player really was a bonus, not to mention it came with extra glasses which are usually expensive.

        Everyone hates something

      • I love Samsung - kickass TVs

    Also ,

I hate lenovo because the keyboard is Screwed

They have Hardswapped the Fn and Ctrl keys, Its a big issue if you are used to typing and use Ctrl a lot.

I just HATE Lenovo for this as old IBM had software swap for keys

    • thanks for that - i never noticed!!

    • Thinkpads at least have always had this. There is an option in the BIOS to swap them back, but if you're like me then you're used to the Fn key being on the left.

  • Even though the pictures are different (I think MLN is showing the 1st gen pic) this seems to be the same model and cheaper $100

After postage differences, should work out to $80 cheaper and getting the laptop a whole lot quicker then COTD.

    • Specs say 2nd gen, but is out of stock

      • Thanks, that will teach me to click on the buy now button before posting.

Yeah specs says 2nd Gen but I'm sure the pic is the 1st Gen which were notorious for overheating.

  • I figured DAWG would be a buyer…

  • Just a warning - Catchoftheday charge your credit card straight away, even if they don't ship for weeks. This means if they go bust you've lost your money. True they have been around for years, but with this sort of operation that means nothing. A legitimate way to handle things would be not to charge until items are shipped.

It's been 13 days since I ordered one of the 17" laptops and they've still not sent it, but charged me day 1.
