LG Optimus One Prepaid Virgin Mobile Phone @ Dick Smith Instore or FREE Delivery $149

100

This is the cheapest price I have seen so far for the LG Optimus One P500.

It runs Android v2.2, but will receive an update to v2.3 some time this year.

  • Good Price for a Good Android phone !

  • Or Huawei Sonic $188 unlocked with 2.3 already.

    • +2

Although the Sonic does have a larger screen, and 2.3 and more user memory
It is severely hindered by the 256mb of RAM, where as the Optimus one has 512mb. Considering it's cheaper and has more ram with 2.3 coming, I'd take the Optimus anyday.

      • But locked, anyway to unlock it by myself?

        • On eBay there are unlocks for around AUD$5.00. Most LG phones are easy to unlock in this way.

      • severely hindered

Depends on how you plan on using the phone. If you're doing a lot of multi-tasking and game playing, maybe yes.

Otherwise, running Android v2.3 with 256 MB RAM should be adequate for normal use. A larger screen on the Sonic certainly makes it more user friendly for those with big fingers :).

      • The Ram is not that important with android, unless you really want to run multiple apps at the same time.
If android needs more RAM it just closes one of the application. CPU speed is more relevant.

  • anyone know if this will work with an Optus sim? (I know virgin locked phones did in the past)

    • -1

Should be fine with an Optus SIM, and other Optus network SIMs like TPG, amaysim, LiveConnected, etc.

EDIT: Although, in saying that, I did read some comments where some Virgin phones were locked to the Virgin carrier level, and Optus SIMs did not work. You can get unlock codes on eBay for LG phones for around AUD$5.00.

I don't think it will. I bought one from Dick Smith for $179 last month and it said something about "Network Subset Locked".

  • new standard virgin price… price drop from $179 to $149 occurred yesterday. this price should be anywhere this phone is sold on virgin pre-paid…

    • -1

It still appears at $179 on their website. I think you made a similar comment previously re Optus phones. What you say is not always the case. I have often seen different resellers selling at different/old prices.

But, yes, I would expect to see the price on the Virgin Mobile website to go down to $149 in the next few days, but not guaranteed.

Hey mate im not bagging your post or anything. Just letting the people know that they can grab this anywhere they find Virgin Pre-Paids.

I have a mate that works at an independent phone shop in a small country town where I live and the price of it was $149 there yesterday…

Here's how it works: the emails come from the heads of Virgin/Optus (which are the same people push comes to shove) and then the price should be dropped immediately otherwise stores are breaking dealership agreements because the shops get the difference in price rebated when price drops occur.

And yeah… I comment on other posts too cause I know when the price drops happen. Heres another that i dont think is on here yet… Optus Pre-Paid Nokia X3-02 dropped from $179 to $129 yesterday too.

If you wanted to go back and check you probs find any time I have said it's the new price I'm right…

So yeah… give it a day or two and this WILL be the price EVERYWHERE. Just cause it's not on the Virgin Website yet means zilch… they are SHOCKING at updating their website…

You are most definitely right in what you say, and often the phones are dropped in price uniformly across stores.

          But I have seen numerous examples just in the last week where that has not happened. Like the current Optus prepaid handset sale;

On the weekend I visited a couple places where the SE X8 and Nokia E5 were not reflecting the new discounted prices. That was far longer than "a day or two" after the sale started.

What I'm trying to say is that you cannot just "assume" the prices will be automatically dropped at all retailers within a couple days of each other. It just does not happen in reality—all the time—from my experience.

        • Case in point, I went to Harvey Norman today. The X8, X10 Mini and E5 are all selling for far more than the current pricing on the Optus website.

The Nokia E5 (Optus prepaid) is $119 at Optus, while the exact same phone is $229 at HN.

So statements like "New standard virgin/optus price" above and at link are just not right:

Dick Smith are also not reflecting Optus' "standard" pricing for the SE X10 Mini and Nokia E5.

The X8, X10 Mini and E5 are all selling for far more than the current pricing on the Optus website.

I think the Optus online price is a special online-only price, you wont find that price in retail stores, or even an Optus Retail store, unless they have an exclusive sale. Eg the Huawei X1, $89 online vs $99 at all retail stores.
My cousin works at Tandy and she said that the price of prepaid phones are set by Optus/provider rep, I think its just a matter of time till your local store changes the price.
The Virgin Huawei ideos U8150 at Harvey Norman is now $79 too.

        • The SE X8 is $99 at Dick Smith.

What we have learnt is there is no definitive pattern to their pricing policy. Although some credit does go to Chux; Virgin seem to be more consistent with their pricing than Optus.

  • perhaps an alternative:

the Acer Liquid Mini is $199 @ GG atm http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Prod…

it's upgradeable to 2.3, 512MB RAM and has a 5MP camera and no secondary camera

    it is $199 though

    • but use your amex $50 cashback and you are sweet!
