If you have an espresso machine that uses an E61 group head (ie not your Breville or Aldi special), this will give you more information about the temperature of the water hitting your coffee. The ideal is 94C and that can be hard to achieve.
There is a competitor from the US or Canada, but it runs to about twice the price (search for Eric’s Thermometer)
It’s not cheap, but if you have paid a couple of grand for a coffee machine and hundreds or thousands on a grinder, it is perfectly reasonable! I paid €100 so it is a genuine price drop.
