Apparently the laser sensor on the predecessor, Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S, wasn't all that accurate. Does the 3 model use the same laser sensor, or has it been improved?

  • I'm trying to understand if it has Alexa integration including the Mi Home Alexa skills Australian version.

It's not helped by the fact I cannot see a listing of the Mi Air Purifier 3 on Xiaomi's own website.

  • Very interested in this little guy for the study and the bedroom, mainly to get rid of dust, anyone with this or older models please comment if there was a noticeable decrease in dust? Thanks.

    • +9

      No.

It's meant to filter out particles much smaller than dust.

What you're after is a vacuum cleaner.

      • Best comment of the day! 👌

      • +1

You might want to vacuum between your ears. Logic dictates that if it can filter out small stuff then it can filter out larger stuff. According to the description first layer of filter "removes larger particles like hair and dust".

        • Well the answer is no. It doesn't do that. The holes in the filter are too small to absorb the dust.

You'll get trace amounts of fine dust, but if it sucked up everything like a vacuum cleaner, that filter will be clogged within a week. It would be pretty useless.

          Source: Me.

Don't be silly. The guy wants to get rid of dust. If you've ever owned a vacuum cleaner, you'll know how much dust a room will generate over weeks. This thing is a filter, not a dust bag. You think this filter is going to serve the purpose of both a purifier and a vacuum cleaner, suck up dust and magically not take up any volume?

          • +1

@lostn: Is there a lazy person's way of preventing or getting rid off dust with no manual effort? Pretty sick off dust.

            • @davicta: Think about it. If there was a device that sucked in dust constantly, it would clog up and you would need to clean that device, which would be messier than just sucking it off the carpet with a vac. You're going to have to deal with that dust one way or another.

          • @lostn:

            Source: Me.

Now you lost all credibility :)

Anyway I did my own testing and threw my old dust bag full of dust into the intake side of the air purifier and it sucked up all the dust…case closed

            • +1

@MuddyClear: ok, so how often do you need to clean the purifier when you do that, and does that make it a good substitute for a vacuum cleaner? Is the dust getting inside the filter, or just clinging to the outside? If it gets inside, you're going to have to replace that filter very frequently. If it's clinging to the outside, then you have to clean the filter, defeating the purpose of it being useful as a substitute for a vac.

Now you lost all credibility :)

So someone who owns something has no credibility in giving advice on its use?

Anyway I did my own testing and threw my old dust bag full of dust into the intake side of the air purifier

This is extremely different than the OP's intended use case. You are dumping dust straight into the intake fan. He is asking if he can use this and never have to vacuum his room. Will dust on the floor from the other side of the room make its way into the filter like it did when you dumped it directly into your intake?

    • I found my Phillips air purifier did a good job of sucking up airborne dust in the room and then unlike having to vacuum everywhere, it was easier to vacuum off the filter which was square (not cylindrical). This combined with roborock vacuum meant the apartment was kept relatively well from excessive dust and pet dander until we did thorough clean every fortnight. A Dyson stick also helped for spot cleaning if needed.

      Yes.

      All the dust - No.

a noticeable amount so the air feels cleaner - Yes

I'm in the market for an air purifier + dehumidifier combo. Would this be a decent option if I buy 2 units. One for the living room n one for our bedroom ? Or do I just get the big Phillips one which is around $780 or the Xiaomi pro model. Not sure whether this un even has a dehumidifier function like the pro model. Help a brotha out..

    • I’m also curious if anyone has compared as I’ve owned a few philips air purifiers and rate them even if they are dumb devices. The thing which worries me about Xiaomi and even the Dyson is the cylindrical filters don’t appear to be easy to clean myself with a vacuum whereas the Phillips ones which have multiple seperate filters can often be vacuumed easily to remove dust and large particles, and the inner filters can sometimes just be washed to extend the life.

  • I feel its only been officially released in India?

Might have to wait till the filters are available internationally.

    • I think so, I've done some looking and you seem to be able to buy the 3rd version ( which I assume comes with the filter ) internationally but not a replacement yet…

  • It's SGD $189 on Lazada - https://www.lazada.sg/products/xiaomi-smartmi-air-purifier-3…

So it could be cheaper, I guess.

    Does it help with bushfires?

    • +4

Reason why I bought it.. this smoke doesnt seem to be getting better and it's not even summer yet

    • If only firefighters were equipped with one, those fires would've been put out a long time ago.

      • I live near Bushland, always intrigues me the main cause of bushfires, a frequently amount of arsons.

  • Replacement filters here for a guide on price; https://www.shopro.com.au/smart-device-1/xiaomi-mijia-ac-m6-…

    • Don't think those filters are the new model (H13 grade - grey colour)

      • Gotchya, should be around by the time the first one needs replacing at least!

  • I was in the market for 2s, now bought 3 instead, thanks OP.

  • Probably a silly question: What do you do if it brakes down?

I see that the Breville is pretty much the same price (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501063). Yes, filters are a bit more expensive than this, but it comes with 2 years warranty (plus a few useless bonuses https://breville.campaign.net.au/674_air2019).

Also available from oz_accessory at the same price, and with faster shipping since they're located in Sydney.

      • Thanks for the link. Purchased.

        • +1

I purchased this from oz_accessory last saturday and it's now the following Thursday, yet they still haven't shipped my item.
When I sent them a message yesterday it took them over 24 hours to respond to which they responded the item takes them another 3 days to process since my messsage ?!? Looks like these guys are far from a reliable store fyi, if I don't receive my item with the next few days will have to cancel my order.,

@WaKkO1: When is your expected delivery date?

Now I am regretting that I didn't order from gearbite where they deliver my last order within a week. :(((

            • @ozizoy: pretty sure oz_accessory is just gearbite. I ordered from oz_accessory and the tracking number they give me show the sender is gearbite

          • @WaKkO1: Received today

  • I ended up buying the Breville from Bing Lee yesterday. First good night’s rest after a few days dealing with the smoke. Very happy!

  • Has anyone received their order for this yet?

I ordered this on December 2 and the last update on the tracking number hasn't moved since December 3. I tried contacting the seller a few days ago, but they are AWOL.

I have also contacted AusPost and they said it was unusual for it to take this long to ship, and at least it should show that it has hopped from one distro to another; so they are running an internal investigation.

What a waste of time, it would be great to use it for the bushfire smoke here in NSW.

I have the same issue, my package has been stuck on "Received by Australia Post DANDENONG SOUTH VIC" since the 3rd December.

    • I received an "Item processed at facility SOMERTON VIC" shipping update about half an hour ago. Let's see if it finally arrives tomorrow….

      • It didn't arrive. Still showing "Delivery expected on Tuesday 17 December* ON TIME, despite the fact it's already past 9.30pm that day…

    • Mine is in the same situation. Dispatched on 3 December, stuck at Dandenong for 8 days, Somerton for 4 days. Now sitting at Nunawading 2nd day. Not sure when it will be delivered.

      • Mine stuck in Dandenong for a week, and then delivered yesterday. I am in NSW. Unit is good just slow delivery

      • Got delivered to my local post office, will pick up tomorrow. I hope it is in right order since it has traveled from warehouse to warehouse.

  • +1

    Still waiting mine.

I contacted Gearbite - they don't have any stock on hand and just printed the shipping labels which is why there is no movement since 3rd December. Make sure you put in the appropriate feedback on ebay.

    • I guess I am lucky then. Ordered 6th December, received yesterday

  • anyone knows where to buy replacement filters for this?

  • Anyone in Melbourne bought one but don't need it anymore?

Where the heck is my Air Purifierrrrr?:((((

  • +1

Ordered from them on 10 Dec and delivered on 23 Dec (Sydney). I messaged them on 19th re delivery and the rep said "We sent out on 16th". What a bul…t
I found a hidden Qantas Airway tracking 081-51604965 covered their label "if undelivered return to GB". This is for 300pcs, 1757kg so I guess they are all Xiaomi Air purifier. about 6kg each. HKG to MEL. 13, 14-HKG. 15-MEL, 16-MEL delivered.
    AU post tracking: 13-info provided, 14-inf approved, 20-Sydney, 21-Chullora, 23-Greenacre-delivered
So they took orders on Ebay although no stock in AU. No wonder why it took so long. Doggy…. if I knew I would bought from someone else or other product.

Exactly the same happen to me. I had good experience with gearbite previously with vacuum cleaner purchase, but I am so disappointed now. I left 1 star reviews about this experience.
