$849 normally. Im not an IT nerd, but that sounds unrealistic!

    • Yeh, I'll admit, the RRP they have on this is totally unrealistic, but the price is still very good.

    • +3

I tried to avoid posting that as rrp, I saw jv around earlier hahaha, but that's just what mln have on their site

    • +5

When have RRPs for computers / laptops ever been realistic?

    • RRP was like $800+ but they're normally selling them for $650+, so the saving of 53% isn't quite accurate, but a good deal nonetheless.

  • Is this any better or worse than the other cheap laptops MLN and Orange IT have been selling? (I think the IBM Levono laptops for around that same price range, some even cheaper).

  • -6

Guys this is a steal at this price, all the staff are buying them as well.

You can pick them up in store if your in Melbourne, no postage fee then, also remember MLN does not charge fees for Visa, Mastercard or Eftpos.

I do not see anything in a main brand being priced like this again. I am actually shocked we are doing this.

    • +4

thats becasue a main brand was priced better 1 week ago and still is now see centrecom deal below

    • +5

I do not see anything in a main brand being priced like this again. I am actually shocked we are doing this.

Funny comment… hehe, makes me laugh. There's been quite a few deals on OzB around this price point for decent notebooks.

Still, a good deal. Positive from me.

  • +1

    Positive from me.
I'm tempted to jump in and update 'ol faithful.

EDIT: just noticed it's a one day only deal. I will be in Richmond tomorrow ahhhh. Oh well, guess I'll just hang out for one with USB3 too.

We had a better version for less anyway,

      • +3

thats my point that deal you had is better than this deal thus negating your comment above

Sorry mate, Lenovo is number 5 in Australia, http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/387685/australian_pc_market…

        • +4

Exactly my point lenovo is a main brand number 5 seller in Australia ( ahead of toshiba) and available for the same if not better price
          sorry mate

    • nice deal brutha

      • +1

We sold out of that model for $369

        • That one had 2GB ram and 250GB hard drive….if you are talking about the one earlier this week

        • that one for 2GB and 250GB was, I think a tiny bit less again
Sorry there are a lot of models floating around.

    • Hmm.. That one is faster, but the high gloss red lid, and from IBM? Interesting.

As for the deals linked above, they don't use the same chipset as this unit, which means the RAM speed is limited to 800MHz.

      • But the faster CPU would make up for it though, oh and gigabit ethernet too comes in handy sometimes :) So the IBM machine does seem better specc'd. Are the Toshibas a lot better build quality or something?

I have lots of bad experiences with the old Toshiba A200 series, they always overheated because their fans clogged up so quckly :(

        • I meant the deals linked above by aussman that were $50 cheaper.

The one CVonV beats the Toshiba in this deal handily on all fronts.

RE: Build quality, I only deal with Toshiba, Acer and ASUS laptops on a regular basis, and Toshiba definitely wins against those 2.. IBM have always been too 'business' for me to bother looking at them, but they are clearly heading in a different direction now.

        • +2

I like Lenovo better than Toshiba who really cost cut their laptops. The lack of hdmi and 2 usb really kills usability for me.

You're better off looking for a good G560 which is better everywhere.

    Is this sandy bridge?

    • +1

Nope. It's the first generation core i3.

  • Barely got time to +1 this before I rushed off to order one

  • +1

I have 3 laptops at home because of these bargains. I have barely touched them and already outdated. This is tempting but logic tells me not to get it if I have no good use for it :).

    • +2

It took you 3 times to think twice? :]

      • +2

It's not a saving or bargain if you don't need it.

    • you gotta problem!

      • I agreed. I have gave two away to family.

        • I seriously think you might have an online shopping addiction. Do you enjoy the thrill of procuring a bargain, only to feel let down and regretful afterwards(because it may have been an unnecessary purchase)?
Hope you can overcome this nasty problem.

  • Nice laptop, I'll be recommending it to a friend if you still have it in stock in a few days/week.

  • +1

Thanks guys, just bought one. Would have preferred HDMI, but can hardly complain at the price (and don't have to kill myself trying to get cash-back).

  • Postage? i see its TNT Express. is that overnight to capital cities?

    • its either TNT express or eparcel overnight express.

    • Don't hold your breath for an overly quick delivery time as these guys aren't exactly quick to get it ready for collection and then + TNT's time.

  • MLN needs to hire better customer service reps. Hell, anyone on OzBargain could do a better job than this guy.

    • +3

In the past they have been quite good on OzB. But yeah, it seems that MLN have changed their rep. Unless of course he's having a really bad day.

    • +3

      thanks mate,
      its still me, no change

      • +4

Dont know why your negging my posts, click on the links that I have posted and have a look your self, The Lenovo deals we had, had better spec and on our price was better than the comparrison posts anyway,
we just sold out of them I dont know how else to put it to you guys?, we had better machines for less in Lenovo our selves.

I am saying that even if you compare these deals, our deals were better for Lenovo vs Lenovo and that you cannot compare Lenovo to Toshiba, Lenovo is always cheaper than Toshiba, always.

The only other 2 Toshibas I have seen below $400 have pentium or celeron processors with usually less RAM and a smaller hard drives or both.
Personally, I like Lenovo, the reality is, they are always cheaper from the beginning with their prices. Toshiba local service and warranty I think is the best in Australia.
Anyway good luck guys, I hope you dont miss out.

        • if your missing out on the other deals we had or are not even aware of them, (even I am missing some of them), its best to subscribe to
          www.mln.com.au/dealalerts
this is how I am finding out about our deals also.

        • +2

If you work for MLN shouldn't they be telling you about the deals and instructing you which ones to post on here?

  • -2

The hyperbole, exaggeration and doubtful claims made by you is the reason you're being negged. If the deal is good than it will sell itself, which it appears to be in this case. Hence why your comments have been negged and not the deal itself. Ozbargainers are generally more astute than your average shopper so selling to them in the manner you have is going to be bad for your reputation, more importantly your company and as a result will subsequently mean members will view your company with increased cynicism.

    • +3

      Easy there tiger…
I am overall grateful to the rep for posting this and similar bargains. I wouldn't even know about them if he hadn't.
I am still tossing up whether to buy this or hang out for one with USB3.
      Decisions, decisions…

    • +1

@sputnik Are you on drugs mate ??

  • Can MLN please bring back some of the IBM's for <$400 again please? :D

  • Well, I decided to let it go.
It's a great deal and pretty much has everything I want for my next lappy except USB3.
The Aussie dollar is still very strong, so I'll just bide my time and wait for a killer deal, with USB3…and maybe Sandy Bridge.

    • It'll be a while before you can get a Sandy Bridge laptop for $400…

      • Yeah maybe you're right but you never know, tech prices move mighty fast.
It's really USB3 that I want. Anything above first gen i3 is fine for my daily use.

DO NOT TRUST MLN! I purchased a hard drive from them thinking 'Great what a bargain' as it was about $20.00 cheaper than usual, they sent it out and it was faulty - I had to pay $25 postage to send it back, then they sent me out another one and it too was faulty. When I called the man was very rude and may I add DODGY and told me to only contact them through email. He also told me it was a problem I have to take up with iomega (it was an iomega hard drive) as it was their problem not MLN's. I could not believe this guy and asked to speak to the manager he said 'NO' and hung up. Then I contacted by email saying I wanted a refund and possibly to be reimbursed for the what was now going to cost $50 postage to send the hard drive back and they too said its not their problem to take it up with iomega. WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS IS THIS!?! Hypothetically, when you buy a peters ice cream from foodworks and its got bug in it you take it back to the shop and they deal with it - they dont then say 'TAKE IT UP WITH PETERS'. Anyway I have pretty much given up on getting any refund of $70.00 back and will never deal through these guys again, I urge you to do the same. I hope you read this MLN because you dont answer your emails!!!!!!!!

    • do you have another account here?

    • did it fail in the DOA period, usually its like 1-2 weeks. if it didnt, they did u a favor by replacing it with a new one as they are only required to get it repaired from the manufactuer. u need to pay postage to send back most items that have faulted if bought online - thats a given….they pay for return postage.

      there is a difference between a $1 ice cream and a $70 hard drive…..

ultimately its up to the store manager to which he decides if they sent it for repairs or replace it.

I am not defending them, its just ive bought $15k+ of items through them for myself and family and have never had any problems with them, even when dealing with DOA/Returns…

      • they too said its not their problem to take it up with iomega

How exactly is that "up to the store manager to which he decides if they sent it for repairs or replace it"?? They said it was his responsibility to call up iomega and organise the repair. This is not allowed, the retailer must honour the manufacturers warranty and should do all the leg work.

        See here for more information:
        http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/984213/fro…

        • yes I agree it would be against consumer law and therfore pretty silly to do this, guys I dont think you realise there are a lot of people who work for this company and we follow consumer laws and guidelines, form what you have posted I understand you may be frustrated, but the someone has already tried to help you, we will organise the repair if Iomega refuses to repair it as well or replace it or refund it. This is of course what happens. If you purchase online you will need to communicate with the online sales rep becuase your point of purchase was online, not instore, if you buy a product instore you wouldnt contact an online sales rep asking for a repair, you would go back to the poin of purchase. We process up to 1000 orders per day and store sales people are not aware of online transactions. I am also 100% that your emails are not being ignored either. I understand your upset, but we are not going anywhere and something like this can be easily rectified. Maybe you are getting a written response, is your email address a gmail or hotmail account? it could be caught up in a spam filter.

They should ban this guy for defaming MLN and using an inappropriate username. If you have issues with them then take it to the ACCC.

  • MLN is there any way I can still get this deal??

    • I beleive we are going to try to bring it back, hard to say at the moment.
Its best to subscribe to www/mln.com.au/dealalerts becuase it will be announced there.
We have had a lot of people contact us for this deal, so we are trying to bring it back

      • Thanks. I just bought one.

    • It's back……

      • Bah… bring back the lenovo ones instead please :)
