      It has been for a long time. Utilises WiFi for most of it.

      Cable is great though. GPS uses a tonne of battery so charging while using it is the best.

        Actually that isn’t correct. In Australia head units don’t have actual wireless AA as google hasn’t enabled it here (probably regulatory approvals haven’t been pursued like Apple did). Android phones have wireless mirroring though, but it isn’t the same thing.

          @entropysbane: Well I never said it was a thing in Australia. Just that it was a thing. But now I guess I know why I haven't seen any WAA head units.

      It's via wifi, needs more bandwidth than Bluetooth provides

    Wireless Android Auto has been out for awhile now but i wouldn't recommend using wireless as that coupled with navigation will chew through your battery.

  I read lots of carplay/androud auto issues also freezing etc. Can you enlighten on these issues

    I have a similar unit, using over the space of about a year it froze once using carplay, and restarted. No issues apart form that.

    Happens usually on the phone end. Nothing a unplug/replug won't fix

    Mine stuffs up about once a fortnight.
    Normally restarting the phone or car does the trick.

    More often i need to restart the phone as it just wont connect when the cable is connected.

    Once however it got stuck on static at full volume when I was on the highway and I couldn't pull over.. that was not fun..

    Although now i think about it, i don't think I've had any of these issues since last ios update.

    I have a jvc kwm-740bt and my gfs iphone 7 and my poco f1 work flawlessly. I use aa everytime I drive. there is the odd time where it does some song jittering, and the screen doesn't feel great to use, but it does aa and carplay fine
