I don't understand why anyone would need this. I plug my normal 3.5" aux into 1 hole in the plane and it works fine. Can you explain why this would be better?

Each of the sockets carries one audio channel, so you were hearing mono and not stereo. Airlines do this so you don't steal accidentally forgot to hand back the on-board headphones.

On older aircraft this is correct however newer systems (787's, A350's etc) all work fine with stereo from one pin.

Not always, depends on airline and fit out.

For the sake of a few bucks, worth having one on standby IMO

          • @ajole: Last flight on Singapore airline, there were little sachets before the boarding, with corded ear buds and an adapter.

            • @cameldownunder: SQ is literally the best airline in the world so doesn’t surprise me haha

But yeah up to you if you want to risk it on most other airlines if you didn’t have any other plans for long haul

Why would anyone need this? They've upgraded most planes I've been on recently to fit the standard 3.5mm.

    • These are also 3.5mm. There's just two of them and it's single channel.

But not all planes. I flew with Singapore Airlines earlier this year and they needed the 2-pin adapter.

Just get one of the free ones on your next Qantas flight.

    • +2

What if you don't ever fly with Qantas?

    • Was thinking the same. I’ve always been given earphones and the adaptor when I’ve flown through qantas, Singapore airlines and a few others.

      • Sometimes, but not always. It is no hassle to keep one in my headphone case.

Why anyone would steal the lousy earbuds they give you in cattle class though is beyond me.

I've found you get these free on flights though? Or maybe that's just certain airlines.

    It's aeroplane.

This is not even a deal, it's the regular price.

    • I bet on AliExpress even cheaper
