Bargain Reliable Wi-Fi Pocket in JP & Also Adaptor

Hi,

I am travelling overseas 1st time ever.

Can you please recommend a bargain and reliable wifi pocket to use in Japan. And also where should I get the adapters?

I looked up online, some requires 2 pins?

Thanks heaps!

I went a couple of years ago and just bought a sim card. I didn't need to hotspot often though. Some accommodations provide pocket wifi's as well

Do you really need pocket wifi or would a data sim be better?

This one is $48 for 24gb over 30 days.

  • I used wifi buddy. Get it sent to your hotel and then send it back via post when you leave.
I just charge them using a powerbank.

  • The Aldi travel adaptor was awesome when we went to Japan and Bali, well worth the investment of about $25

I also went with the sim card option. Found it easier than fumbling around with a pocket wifi.

Thanks for the sim card advice. I thought our Australia mobile phone wont work over there?

    • It'll work but you'll be ROAMING and paying some crazy amount her GB

    • It's just a GSM phone. So long as the bands are supported (they are), pick up a local SIM

    • You'll get charged a lot. Better off using a local carrier.

What about the Optus $20 Roaming Pack? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/494831

Last person that commented used it in Japan.

    • Thanks for this.
It seems minimum cost is $20 with a free $2 prepaid sim.

  • We just came back from a 3 weeks trip in Japan and we ordered the 4G WiFi from Klook for pickup at the airport. We chose WiFi over sim card as we had 3 devices to connect and also the convenience of not having to change sim cards. If you're travelling by yourself I'd recommend a local sim card, which I think is available from Klook as well, as it would be cheaper. We forgot to bring an adapter so we used the pocket WiFi charger to charge our phones and some of the hotels we stayed at we could just charge by USB.
