Try it out and if you enjoy it as much as I did also buy it to support the Aussie games industry!

    • Totally agree. I believe it will be 25% off on Xbox and PS4.. everything but Nintendo.

    • -4

The developers have already been paid for the game, and you are paying for it as part of your gamepass membership. The only party you are supporting by buying it (again?) is sony/micro/nintendo. If you really want to support the aussie games industry buy a different game or donate.

      • +6

So they just sell the game to the platform and that's it? That would make sense with gamepass I think. But what about on PS4 and Nintendo? Surely they get a percentage of each sale.

        • +7

Yep, they get a lump sum for gamepass. I'm not saying the devs don't get a cut from e-store sales. They do, it's just a smaller cut than donating to them. If you've already got the game and solely want to suport the dev, why give a cut to sony/micro/nintendo?

          • +3

@benald: If you ever want to cease Game Pass you’d retain the game if you purchase it outright. That’d be one reason.

Game Pass titles can/do also get removed at a later date.

Depends if you are likely to want to replay it in a few years I guess.

            • +3

@Smigit: Yep, for sure. I was trying to explain (poorly by the downvotes =( ) that there are better ways of supporting a dev than buying a game you can already play through an e-store, giving a cut to said e-store.

          • @benald:

Yep, they get a lump sum for gamepass.

Are you breaking an NDA to tell us this?

Either way, I expect that agreements are not all the same.

      • If you buy the game the developer is still getting the money from the sale.

      • …buy a different game or donate.

If you really want to support the industry as a whole then buy it like @Ashmattic suggested and promote the game by gifting it to someone.

        …coincidentally I don't own this game. @Ashmattic

FYI, devs report they do quite well from Microsoft when putting their games on Game Pass… so sure, support them more, but you're not, not supporting them by downloading this with your game pass subscription (note: it isn't free… they aren't giving away the game permanently… its just part of your sub and you can buy it for 20% off if you want as that is the standard discount on games that are part of game pass).

  • Is this just a free play weekend or it’s staying on game pass for a little while?

    • +3

Staying for a fair while! Generally 3 months+

      • Thought they were generally 6 month minimum deals?

  • Cal's no Jedi Grand Master, at least when i played him… but he's certainly no Goose and he definitely has a name?

    • Spoiler: he turns into Darth Goose at the end of the game.

      • +4

        Played by Ryan Gosling?

Based on the game trailer I suggest the Goose's name should be Richard Head.

      • Turns to the Honk Side of the Force.

  • +6

I think if somebody called me an Untitled Goose I would be genuinely more upset than most any other insult.

    • And then join the darkside!

    • +1

That gave me a good chuckle on an otherwise horrible day, thank you outlander!

      • You're welcome friend.
        Bad days never last long..

        • +1

Thanks mate, today has been a bit better. Whatever the opposite of an Untitled Goose is (Titled Duck?), you are that!

  • I guess I will finally use my GamePass trial … :-)

  • I'm already too deep with the nintendo cartel… gotta give up my soul to get out…

Won't be on Xbox Game Pass for PC unfortunately: https://twitter.com/XboxGamePass/status/1204435128392601601

    • +3

Noooo :/ Thanks for checking though.

    • I suppose that makes sense with Epic games having exclusivity over the PC version.

      • +4

There has been EGS exclusive games on Xbox Game Pass before: Outer Worlds, Metro Exodus - but yeah, agreed it’s probably related.

        • +1

Outer Worlds being on XGP would be because Microsoft owns Obsidian though…

    • Oh no! Saw this post and got excited :(

Not putting any money into Epic.

  • +1

Have been waiting for this. Thanks OP.

  • +3

I picked it up based on the hype it got. It got repetitive very quickly for me and I think you'd be better off trying it on game pass and not risking the money I paid for it on eShop. You may be a little disappointed like me.

  • +1

Finally, something worth spending my free games pass trial on. Been waiting to pull the trigger on Switch, but $30 for a very limited game seemed a bit expensive. Paying mostly for the Reddit hype train and meme value.

    • It's a great game, found it to be heaps of fun and worth the hype. The use of music is genius and it's an endearing game

  • +7

Isn’t this the whole point of Game Pass?

Surely it’s no more “free” than every TV show on Netflix is “free”.

    • +2

It's not free, it's the cost of Game Pass.

  • +1

    Buy the Goose Game

  • -1

Can we get a sale for eshop version?

  • +1

    Time for a cooperative session

  • do you get to scream when u get plucked?

  • +5

    Sees “free on game pass”
    Sees fallen order thumbnail
    Almost immediately disappointed

  • Is it an untitled goose or an entitled goose?

    • +1

The former, since it can’t be entitled if it’s nagging all the time.

Fun bit of trivia- Untitled Goose Games was just a working title, until others started calling it often enough for the developers to run with it instead of changing the name.

  • +2

I love Gamepass, but this needs to stop.

This is a paid service, so how is this 'free'?

Even Games with Gold is pushing it, but at least with that you get to actually keep the Xbox/Xbox 360 games, so I don't mind that.

But Gamepass is essentially a rental service which you pay for. Is every game from here onwards that gets added going to be posted as a a 'free' game?

    • How is 'renting' this deal any different from 'renting' an eBay Plus deal or Costco deal or Amazon Prime deal?

You're effectively saying that because there is a membership attached it's not free.

      • +3

        You're comparing apples with oranges.

This isn't a 'deal'. It's just an addition to a catalogue of rental games which is the whole basis of the service. Games are supposed to be added—that's the whole point. So when a game is added, and it's celebrated like it's 'free', well then people are just getting confused because they're getting exactly what they're supposed to be getting. The only 'deal' that should be associated with Gamepass is a deal on the subscription itself. The byproducts of the subscription that everyone who is subscribed gets should not be classed as 'deals' on their own.

With the services you mentioned, people subscribe to them for access to multiple benefits (primarily free shipping), and exclusive deals are a bonus. People subscribe to Gamepass, on the other hand, for one and one thing only—access to games. So why is it a deal when you get exactly what the service is giving you?

        • Xbox Game Pass gives you discounts on purchasing games where save up to 50-75% on game purchases and exclusive offers. Just like eBay Plus does or Amazon Prime.

Just like you mentioned, you're receiving multiple benefits from Game Pass too, such as EA Access and Discord Nitro.

It would be like me saying any future deal on Amazon prime or eBay Plus is apart of the service you signed up for. Instead of free shipping which they provide Xbox Game pass gives you games to play, for free.

          So how do they differ?

As you said "The byproducts of the subscription that everyone who is subscribed gets should not be classed as 'deals' on their own".

By your logic, every eBay plus, Amazon prime, Costo and any other deal related to a membership-subscription service would need be canned.

Never have i seen a better reason to buy a xbox game pass.

  • +2

Free when you pay for it

  • +1

    It’s now available!

    • HONK!!

  • Can't find it to download

    • This is why posts like this exist.

You need to go to the Xbox store and type in the game. It will say download free on Gamepass.

      • Cheers. I was searching for it within the game pass app and it wasn't there.

        • Yeah won't be listed on game pass yet. Despite being free.

I want that fuzzy goose tee and socks for Xmas from their untitled goose game shop but shipping is ridiculous. Wish there is an aussie distributor for their merchandise. :(
