  • What did you want to do with it?
Not all tablets are best suited to all tasks.

Mostly just reading the web and watching youtube.

So those that voted for the Ipad 7th Gen might have overshot, given the cost versus other alternatives.

        • Agreed. I voted iPad but removed vote after seeing that. Not sure what would suit him though. Maybe a Samsung one as they have nice screens?

@dotMonkey: I'm hopeful that those more technically-minded than me can help OP.

My point was more that we always look for the technology with the most features, when in a lot of circumstances we never use most of those features (that we paid for).

@GG57: Yeah for sure. I agree an iPad wouldn't suit as a device just for reading and watching videos. It is a fantastic device, but other devices can do literally the same thing in the same way at less cost

You don't need an iPad lol

Yeah how is an iPad a budget tablet?

Total cost over life? Expected life = forever

The practical life of an iPad is really only a few years. iOS updates aren't available for older iPads and there are a lot of apps in the app store that will not run on iPads that are just a few years old. This seems to be particularly the case for more popular apps that are often updated.

They didn't outline what their budget was, they just requested best bang for bucks. Easily the iPad as it's far superior than Android devices (queue the haters) simply because it will still receive at least a few years of support and security updates, and best of all - after a few years of usage it will likely still perform well.

Mine didn't. I had an iPad—actually, I still have it—which after an OS update, started depleting the battery very fast, till it died. At the time, I was too busy to chase it up with Apple, and when I finally got around to it, I was told in no uncertain terms it was too old (though I still remember when I bought it, i.e. I'm old), and that could do nothing for me but sell me a new one. I hate Apple. Deeply. (And now love Xiaomi for their great products at great prices!)

Fair enough, that sucks! For the 99% of other Apple users, they have a stellar experience.

But for the stated use "just reading the web and watching youtube", would you still say that the iPad is the best 'bang for bucks'?

        • -1

Depends if OP would be okay with an older iPad for less $$.

I've only owned cheaper Samsung Tablets before my first iPad, I'll be honest - so my experience has been very poor from the start. My old man bought a much more expensive model and it was a nice device to use, but I'd never spend that kinda money on an Android tablet.

          • @ThithLord: Well that's the problem, you buy cheap Android tablet and compare it With ipad multiple times the price, I have lenovo tablet the one with a stand, for $200 personally I love this more than my kids $500+, it have better screen stereo speaker, and have expandable storage,Imagine how $500+ will perform, don't get me wrong Apple make one of the best devices but ipad 7 gen is not one of them.

  • The iPad Pro 64GB is the best bangs for buck for those with a bigger budget.
