    Button batteries…puhlease!

  • +1

Why does it have a face on it.

  • Ordered one - $20 is ok for this - Xiaomi stuff seems decent quality - 2030 batteries aren't great but e-ink would be low power - not so sure about the bluetooth, etc. but for a clock/thermometer/humidity detector with smarts it's the right price..

  • Do you need the gateway to record the historical temperature data? Or is that just to have that data used to control other devices?

    • It will record data into the app. You need the Gateway for controlling other devices.

  • you'd have to be crazy to buy this with the batteries it uses

      Why, exactly?

      • -1

        Expensive

        • +2

Branded ones are like $1 each. Can get 20 unbranded for less than $5.

      • Kids can die from ingesting them

  • +1

Batteries are 2032 not 2030 and it says they last 12 months

Bigger batteries would mean thicker unit.

2032 batteries can be bought for around a $1 each

  • CAN I PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE?

    • +1

I wouldn't recommend it. I out my dumb Xiaomi version of this in and it turned off for a whike.

  • I find it novel to monitor temperatures on longer hiking trips. I like that I could log temperatures with this so I don't have monitor it. At 60 grams I really can't justify it though. That's more than twice the weight of my Xiaomi rechargeable headlamp.

  • If your area affected by daylight saving time, the time displays wrong. I’m in South Australia and it displays half an hour difference.
I try to fix the time but could not change it.

  • What are the competitors in this space?

I spent a good amount of time last year trying to find a reasonably priced digital wall clock for my bathroom and ended up hanging a bedside one from kmart to the wall - less than ideal.

edit: also, does this work without an internet connection?

    • $13.48 US ex GST and $14.83 US inc GST so works out worse than this deal either way ;)

      • ahh, yes - have to set banggood to USD otherwise you lose a bit more

  • Does anybody have this? How much room is there in the case for the electronics?

I'm interested in buying this for the screen and case.
Would like to pull the guts out and replace it with an Arduino (or rPi0).

    • Checkout this video at the 6:15 mark to see the rear.

      • Geez - That is thinner than I expected.
… Wish they pulled away that internal case as well!

  • I thought e-ink displays were patented so hard no one was allowed to make them besides a few e-book reader manufacturers?
Has the patent expired, or does Xiaomi just don't care?

    • They abandoned the patent.

      • Just Googled it - it got expired abandoned today, right?
Maybe the Chinese can finaly do something useful and exciting with the technology!

  • I tried to apply coupon "This coupon can only be used 300 times." EXPIRED?

    • Should be good now.
