i ordered one of these for my work desk too.
It was just to clean the dusty air but I have to take your hypothesis and see if it works in a different working environment

it may look fancy, but rather buy a xiaomi for better performance. or something like a Dyson Pure Cool, DP04

I can't speak to the quality of the Dyson, but I was deeply disappointed in the Xiaomi purifier I bought (compared to previous Coway models I have), the auto mode doesn't come on nearly enough to clear the air properly (seems to only detect a certain type of particle, while not noticing the air is full of dust).
You can manually set favorite mode to your desired fan speed
I am aware, which is something at least, however when I was using it it would automatically switch back to Auto after 30 minutes or so, which really defeats the purpose of setting it. It is commonly complained about on the net. Also, having to turn it on it manually defeats the purpose of having an Auto mode.
@mattythecapybara: I'm not experiencing the auto switch back, maybe try updating the firmware on that machine? Yeah, I feel the same, auto mode is useless in Australia
@XanderYuan: Auto is probably useful if you're looking for respite from the Sydney bushfires, as I recall it did detect cooking smoke well. But yeah it is not useful for clearing dust.

Sharp has been making air purifier for donkey years and they work well. Cost less too.
Does this model have a filter that can changed? Didnt think so… the next model up might be better - Pure cool model.
