I wonder how much longer Google will support wear. It's like they just gave up. Great price for the watch though.

  • I think Google will support wear as they are bought Fitbit

The seller is Watch Station, not listed as Fossil….

      Right! Updated thanks

4 neg reviews for 57 positive for the last month as well.

But it's also the watch and colour I've been wanting lol

Watch Station seem to be US based, and even on their official site they list this watch as imported. This this is going to be grey market.

They are actually part of Fossil Group in Australia (and US). They have only one store in NSW which is located in Homebush DFO.

      Fossil have international warranty anyway.

  • Any idea how strict the fossil return policy is? Says 30 day returns for unworn merchandise.

Worth buying through fossil direct or using eBay Plus?

Not sure if I want this or the ticwatch pro so want to try them both out…

    • I have the same question. Bought a Gen5 directly from Fossil for Christmas. It's currently sitting under the tree waiting to be opened. Wondering if I can return it and purchase again for $399?

      • +1

You should be able to do that easily, I'd just talk to their customer service first to see if they'll just give you the $100

        • Just read the T&C's - https://www.fossil.com/au/en/promos.html

"Not valid in conjunction with any other offer, discount or coupon code. Not valid on returns, exchanges, previous purchases or purchases made after the end of this promotion."

          Damn.

          • @Jacquesy: If you have eBay Plus you can return for free and then place another order. Only downside is you temporarily have another $399 missing from your account.

@lukethefish: You can always just return and purchase another one. Even if you need to use a different name, you still have 30 days to return so you should be fine.

    • You wouldn't consider gear watch?

      • +2

Looked into it, but wanted to go with Wear OS to get access to different apps.

        • Which apps?

          • +1

@onlinepred: For me it was the google apps. Mostly Google Pay and the voice assistant. I also read that the Gear wasn't all that great if you didn't have a Samsung phone, even for basics like notifications.

Tizen's main advantage was always speed, and the Gen 5 seems to have solved that issue with that increase in RAM.

            • @KentT: Using it on my Pixel just fine. I just switched to use samsung pay on my phone and watch, wasn't a big deal at all. All notifications work fine from my Pixel to gear watch.

The main disadvantage for wear os is the terrible performance and reliability. It's so slow and laggy at times, and soooo many bugs.

          • @onlinepred: Yea as Kent said, mainly Google apps to help with integration with my pixel.

However golfshot is another one that I can remember wanting to access.

The best comparison will be between the Gen 5 and the Ticwatch Pro 4G, but unfortunately the latter hasn't released in Australia yet.

            • @AquaDigger: Yea I have my gear hooked up to my pixel all good, no issues at all. Gear OS is just so bad I wouldn't consider it over the neg of not having google assistant on my watch. The amount of times Google pay wouldn't work reliably was embarassing. It was a watch I couldn't rely on.

              • @onlinepred: I used to have Ticwatch for same reason, Google Pay. But it was so slow its faster to pull out my phone and use it there. And if you have your watch you are most likely to have a phone with you anyway.

Tried Tizen, it was OK. But in the end I opted for cheaper Huawei GT with LiteOS. Its a dumb smartwatch but at least it wasn't pretending to be able to do it all and fail miserably at it.

                • @John: Yea android smart watch scene is pretty average…… the only reason I'm sticking with gear OS is spotify offline downloads for now, and the appearance/performance etc

  • PLAY100 code has expired, however POTTER3 still works, slightly more expensive at $387.03.

  • Also is available for all Gen 5 now, they had a glitch on their eBay site. Also the PayPal payment goes through to Fossil Australia, so definitely Australian stock.
