Why there is no telco Xmas sale yet (Telstra, Optus)?

As say in the title. Is it just myself or this year all Telco have been quiet on xmas deal mobile plan lately? Not the current one they have but I’m talking about real sale like the Telstra Family and Friends back in the day or the 10% off all Optus plan for Xmas? Anyone has any inside information about upcoming xmas deal that we do not know about?

Thanks in advance

I called telstra on your behalf and the wait was 72 minutes. I gave up.

        Yes, inhave to rely indeed.

        • I have to reply* lol clumsy fingers

  • That's very entitled of you to assume they'll be another F&F deal.
The best sales happen at random times, I was in the Feb/March F&F deal. There's nothing special about that time of year.

The fact that Click Frenzy, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have all just passed means there was just ample opportunity for sales.

$65/mth Telstra plan for 12 months with $500 JB Gift Card isn't a bad offer. If you utilise the $500 gift card fully it comes to $280 for 12 months. Pity it expired just yesterday.

Tbh Optus will need more than 10% off their plan fees to tempt me.

    Just grab a boost sim for like $11/month (12 months = ~$135) x 2 = ~$270 for 24 months.
    Telstra F&F = $59 * 24 = $1416.
    $1416 - $270 = $1146 to spend on a new phone.

If you need 20GB a month there's Boosts $300 plan for 12 months, recently discounted to $240
You'll still have $816 to spend on a new phone even if you buy 2 undiscounted $300 plans.

    • That's very accurate but in my case I'm looking for mobile plans as I cannot fork out large sum now for a phone.

And I need at least 20gb data for my work which use 4g outside a lot, so a good mobile plan with sufficient data will be best suited.

Saying that I do realise sales come and go so I'm cool with that. Just wondering surely the Telcos will not let xmas season pass by without introducing new sales that's all

      • Well it's Christmas Eve in a week. Besides the F&F deal (which was in Feb/March again), I can't really think of any years there was worthwhile.

Christmas time is the time everyone signs up on plans or buys them as gifts. Thus they are normally slim pickings.

Plans are nothing like they were 2 years ago. Optus and Telstra have both split into phone costs + plan costs. Both encourage a 36 month plan now.
If you are still happy with your phone a sim-only plan is your best bet.

Telstra is doing it's "12 days of Christmas" sales. Unlikely see anything else there.

Optus MVNO selling 20GB for $18/mth (first 12 months)

    • Optus didn't have any deals on their sim only plans during these events.
Bit presumptuous to say that its entitled?

I pay $30 a month with Optus for 15GB of data, 300min International and unlimited talk and text + Optus Sport which ive had for 2 years.

Currently they their cheapest plan is $40 a month for 10GB data with only unlimited talk and text no other extras…

        How so?
"You offered it last year so I want it with a newer phone this year"

I don't expect to come off a F&F deal and be able to go straight into another with a phone 2 years newer than the one I got with the initial contract and have the same inclusions and price.

  • I just changed my S8 Telstra $59 plan to post paid, halved my cost

still have unlimited calls/txt and 20 gb each month for the 1st 3 recharges then 10gb thereafter. Can also data bank upto 200gb.

now it isnt a deal as such, but certainly much better value than what i had.

The Circkes desl sounds great if you are happy with the optus network.

    • I just changed my S8 Telstra $59 plan to post paid, halved my cost

      You mean prepaid?

      • Yep i guess. I always get them mixed up as ive always had a plan.

  • I got on the Optus iphone 8 deal 2 years ago for my wife for $59 a month including optus sport which was a very good deal. Contract is up in a few days and I tried my luck with Optus last week but they only had the standard plans to offer.

Apple are doing interest free for up to two years on new phones so I've gone for the iphone 11 as a replacement and will move her across to either Jeenee or Aldi mobile to reduce the monthly cost. The reduction in cost will cover most of the phone cost and should still be able to get about $400 for an iphone 8 in good condition. Phone paid off in maybe 6 months or so, no contract and service as good, or better in the case of Aldi, than Optus.

I have to admit, I am also and always only sign up to plans on a deal. It looks like plans have gone up massively. I’m currently (as of the last 6 months) on a BYO phone no contract plan with Telstra getting 35GB data per month for $39!
I got my son’s phone (iPhone 8 when it first came out) exactly 2 years ago for $62 a month including 20GB data and the iPhone 8 on a 2 year contract with Optus after someone posted the amazing deal on this website . That contact is about to expire so I’m shopping around for a new one for him - but even BYO plans are crazy! Telstra just offered me ‘15GB a month’ to ‘upgrade’ for $49. Haha. I was like, I pay you $39 for 35GB, how is that an ‘upgrade’?
