As some have successfully done, I can also confirm I was moved to the $60 M2M plan after signing up with JB's 12 mth $65 p/mth plan. They also applied the port-in $10 credit, so in conclusion it's now $50 p/mth no contract with 60GB data and $500 gift card to boot. Win. I didn't even ask to move to M2M, I just asked for the $10 credit. To make this deal go even further, I can then port out to Voda in 2nd month and get 40% cash back on their plans - I find Voda much more reliable where I live away from the big city.

    • So how did the convo of moving to m2m come up ? This live chat or phone?

      • +1

Phone. It didn't really come up in the discussion. I found out during the auto reading of the terms and conditions. Then when the agent came back on the call she just re-summarised the plan and said it was M2M. I didn't question it I just kept saying yes (in my head I was hoping she doesn't pick it up as an error… and nope, all went through and successfully signed up).

        • And now if you click through your account does it no longer show up as jb hifi BYO?

          • @Frozensage: Correct. Shows as out of contract medium monthly plan. No mention of JB anywhere.

            • @freelife: jbhifi told me if I do that they will apply ETC

              • @nicozam: I just cancelled and paid the ETC. Said will take 48 hours for cancellation to kick in. Still waiting for email.

              • @nicozam: Yeah I just got lucky

    • I haven't pulled the trigger yet and not sure if I will but your outcome would be the dream for me! I'm about to sign up to a phone plan with the iPhone 11, so signing up to this plan first and getting myself a $500 gift card then changing over to the phone plan without an ETC would be incredible.

In saying that, what's this 40% cash back on Voda?

      • It's cashback in first month's bill. Both Cashrewards and Shopback offer it.

  • I just went to jb hifi, and even showing the chat with Telstra where they confirm I could have that $10 bonus in jbhifi plan, they couldn't do it.. 😕

  • +3

I just had a chat with a live chat rep to ask about changing to a M2M plan and waiving the ETC, and while they said they can't do it themselves as they need to coordinate with JB Hifi to cancel it, the rep spoke to their manager and gave me a reference number to give to JB Hifi that documents authorisation to waive the ETC. Not sure how well it will go but I am going to see tomorrow.

    • +2

believe they don't care about that reference number, I've tried already with no success

      • +2

Probably because once sold everything is with Telstra. Telstra is playing you sending you to JB

    • Any updates?

      • +1

Went to a JB store to sort it out, they were pretty confused with the whole situation and were on the phone with Telstra for quite some time. Eventually, the cancellation and waive was 'approved' but to fully complete it I must go back to the original store where I signed up to the plan for the ETC to be waived, something to do with dealer ID or something. Not gone back to the store yet, so it's not 100% done yet.

  • If I have a current postpaid plan with Telstra. Cancel it today, activate a vodafone simcard and port that in will it work?

    • Maybe

    • maybe… they can see when your number left telstra and determine your eligibility, but also at the same time they might not check. It's all chance! lol

    • depends on the sales guy at JB. First guy I had to speak to a call centre and show them my month invoice, then come back later to get the gc once number ported. 2nd guy, didn't even ask me about how long I had been with Optus, 5min and port was complete and got the gc on the spot.

    • Just to let people I know I successfully did this, 5 mins activating an Optus prepaid sim loading it with $10 and 10 minutes in store and I had the $500 GC

      • New number completely? Or you came from Telstra ,to Optus then this deal back to Telstra?

        • Sorry for delayed response, new number completely. Then transferring old number to new service.

  • Was in my local JB yesterday and noticed their sticker advertisement is a little different in it says: $500 Gaming Gift Card…..

Anyone know the relevance of that?? I didn’t ask the staff but it seems to be somewhat strange to consider a gift card could be limited to certain product purchases vs any and all holdings from the store.

    • I bought a TV with the 500$ gifcard

      • Yeah it appears it isn’t limited, I rang them today and they said it can be used on anything they sell.

    • They have different offerings available - this was also stickered on wall when I got mine.
Some in your face, some not
It's not worth the gaming gift card, so I got the standard one and picked up a phone on black friday

      • They just gave me a regular gift card. Now I just gotta hope they drop the Sony MH-1000XM3 to low $300s!! I did see the Sennheiser PXC-550s are $269 at the moment though. A family member leant me theirs for a international trip and they are pretty good…….if the Sony’s don’t come down I think I’ll end up grabbing them.

On the third try with Telstra chat, I got them to apply $10 credit on my plan per month.

    • Do you do this before or after?

      • After porting it to Telstra. Just said that I had chat with some and they said if I port then I am eligible for $10 pm discoun.

  • Just went to Jb Hifi store, didnt get me through as i just finished porting in to vodafone today through $2 simcard starter pack + $10 topup. I was on Telstra plan 24m. Gosh needed to wait 30 days with vodafone.

  • just finished my contract with telstra yesterday and was looking to port to boost $150 6 month plan, but was then contemplating with this as offer expires in a day or 2 and i dont knw if i can port my number to $2 sim from aldi and then jbhifi lets me hop onto the plan with $500 gift card ?
So ppl are getting $10 bonus but thats after u sign up with jbhifi isnt it ? call telstra and say to apply bonus as port in from other provider ? Or m cutting it toooo close to avail this.

    • Would Porting out temporarily to a Telstra reseller (ie boost) be a better idea than say Vodafone? As they might not question that you are already on Telstras books..if that makes sense?

      • Oh totally, moving to boost ONLY if i cant move to back to Telstra and avail $500 GC.. so can do with aldi / vodafone / xyz.. however has most of the ppl here been able to do so in similar situation in a day or 2 ? (now, JBHIFI deal is expiring in a days time).. so time crunch

  • Managed to get the $10/m discount, though apparently it is automatically applied?

    <telstra employee>:
As I can see here your plan is JB Hifi plan, right? For the $10 discount that is automatically being added on your plan as that is their on going promotion for porting customers. We appreciate you considering Telstra as your mobile provider. :)

    <me>:
Great! So the bill will come down to $55/m instead of $65/m is that correct?

    <me>:
    And that will happen automatically

    <telstra employee>
That is totally right. Your current plan $65 per month with $10 discount total of $55 per month. You dont need to worry, everything is documented on the account that you will received the $10 discount per month and you will only pay $55 for your mobile service for 12 months.

Guess we'll see when the bill comes round.

    • So you went to sign up for $65 a month at JB then did a web chat with Telstra?

      • Yup, sign up took about 15 minutes in-store. Got back to the office and hit up the Telstra 24/7 chat. Asked about the $10 discount and they checked my account and said the above.

        • Thanks!

          Will try the same thing.

        • +1

Discount applied with a second agent

          • @neohazard: :( I've tried 3 agents so far but no luck.

            • @diazepam: same here, got the discount via chat after apply for the $65 jb hifi plan

              • @nicozam: There is a Telstra promotion offering $10 port in on this plan. Think it might be only for yesterday and today.

                • @jkt: Is that written anywhere? Really want to bring it to Telstra and ask them again for a discount but I've just been knocked back too many times because I don't have proof.

                  • @diazepam: Apparently it is automatically applied by Telstra.

                    • @jkt: Don't think it is in writing anywhere though. I did 2 numbers - 1 yesterday - contacted chat and was told there is a $10 promotion for the 60 GB medium plan which ends today. So I did another number today and then contacted chat and they said they can see on the account that $10 x 2 numbers (=$20 per month) has been added for 12 months. Forgot to save the chat transcripts though.

                    • @jkt: And I just asked again to another resounding no :(
Was told that it's only applicable for the $60 plans, not the JB plans despite me trying to argue in many different ways ahaha

                      • +1

@diazepam: I think it is only for yesterday and today. Not sure if you ported before that. Will have to wait and see when I get the bill though.

                        • @jkt: Fair enough, I was few days too early :(
Was hoping that online chat would be able to apply it retrospectively but clearly not lol

                          • +1

@diazepam: I just ported today, the $10 discount can’t be applied to my account as well. Was told the promo is only for Telstra in-market plan and not applicable to jb hifi plan. Guess it depends on which agent you get and if they are nice to make exception for you.

                            • @kfh_9118: I got the $10 discount two hours ago after 2 phone calls that said no. Got lucky via messaging. Brings plan down to $13.33 per month. Just read the details of the bonus. Plans of 60 and above. Finishes today 24/12. Probably shouldn't work for the jb plan. But some of us have got very lucky. Keep trying guys.

The deal is mentioned on the whistle webpage in the $60 sim only section

                              https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePho…

  • Just an update to my previous comment about being in the process of cancelling with no ETC, I've successfully cancelled the plan with no ETC via live chat, Christmas miracle.

    • wow so u kept the 500 gift card and cancel the plan with no costs! unbelievable

      • Seems like it, I do have to pay the 1st month since I was actually on the plan and active for a month, but still pretty good.

  • I was pretty lucky to get 500 gift card + 50 gifcard + 200 discount on at TV and then via telstra chat i managed to have the 10 discount :D

    • hold on … what?

  • Is this deal still 0n?

    • expired on the 24th

      • Likely to be extended though, was extended multiple times.

  • I need this my Optus sim expired - anyone have info if still on?

    • still on but u get a 400$ gift card instead

      • ugh I’ll probably just wait

        • Waiting for the next $500 deal aswell.

          • @dan76n: Looks like the current deal is $65pm - 80gb data but locked into a 24 month plan no $500 gift card
