Coles/Shell Stupidity from worker

Doing a job tomorrow I need fuel for small engines like generator and other stuff. Pull up in my ute at the servo filling 20 litre petrol containers. Get to 1 ltr the pump stops this idiots waving his arms around in the servo he wont come out he's just throwing all this sign language at me.
Turns out their policy is you must put the full can on the concrete before filling according WHS.
So if I sent a small framed person, pregnant or Dwarfism to do the job that couldn't possibly return the container back to the tray can I sue Coles for discrimination wasting my time paying competent people and possibly humiliating them.
Had a crack at this idiot and he handed me a can we serve you better form from coles didn't seem to care.

Crikey, you don't sound like a nice person at all.

    • Heh, you must be new here.

Maybe the servo needs better stickers… https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/687412636/warning-stickers-m…

Worker stops you from a hazardous procedure, you insult them, go on the internet, have a little sook, continue to insult them behind their back and still have no insight. There is a "Semi Challenged person" in the incident; hint it isn't the person doing their job properly…

    /facepalm

    • +5

I agree with you, but just one modification

There is a "Semi Challenged person" in the incident; hint it isn't the person doing their job properly…

There's nothing "semi" about how challenged the OP is at this point

      • +2

        +1!

Probally suffer less burns with a petrol station fire at this stage.

  • +2

Lol. That’s pretty stupid. Looking out just for yourself hey.

One of the reasons it’s on the floor where it is more likely to be stable and less risk of spilling everywhere. Petrol is highly flammable you know

  • +5

Easy there, Tiger, might want to watch how you throw around the words "stupidity" & "semi-challenged", you know… Unless you want to end up looking semi-challenged individual advertising their acts of stupidity and rudness?

  • +2

Why would u send somebody u able to lift a very can onto the back of a ute or car after it has been filled up.. It's negligence on your part.

Op us just lucky that the attendant was paying attention to OP's stupidity to "wave sign language at him".

Ok im just ranting coz he wasmade to look like an absolute idiot for not knowing better

  • +12

"Semi challenged worker"? More like "Definitely dimwitted customer".

    What a (profanity).

  • +2

This never happened to me before.
Because I always put the cans on the ground to fill.
Because there are signs telling you to do so.

  • +4

Semi challenged customer doesn't understand workplace health and safety.

  • +3

So if I sent a small framed person, pregnant or Dwarfism to do the job

LOL. Ummm it would be your fault then for sending someone out to do a job they are not capable of doing. Can't blame Coles for that.

    • +1

      Can't blame Coles for that.

I'm sure the OP would find a way

  • +6

Arrogant people tend to belittle people who are doing the right thing if it inconveniences them.

  • +9

i couldnt participate in the poll as there wasnt a "OP's a dumbass" option. So just upvote my comment instead lol

  • Wth?

  • Whaaaa?

I have a crazy suggestion - maybe, just maybe, you should walk inside the store to see what message he is giving you instead of abusing a guy trying to do his job. I know its a crazy suggestion - but just try it then you wont have to post on ozbargain!

  • putting the fuel can on the ground seems reasonable to me

  • As a semi semi challenged worker you should not be arguing another companies saftey practices.

If you dont like them move on.

  • +2

    Refuelling safety

The 'idiot' is only doing their job in trying to protect ignorant bigger idiots.

Damn, think I've used up all my negative votes daily quota in this thread alone! Though still not enough to get OP to see that he's clearly in the wrong. Heck, even if the whole universe voted negative on him, he'd probably still think he's in the right. Typical arrogant people.

  • +1

We need an extra poll option:

I'm sorry the "idiot" won't let you blow yourself up, but you'd take out the petrol station with you, and he doesn't need the extra paperwork.

  • Based on your history of posts asking for answers to simple things, i reckon being semi challenged is something you should strive for as a new years resolution.

It will be tough work but I reckon you can do it

The car itself is grounded, as is the fuel tank.. so when you fuel the car, all is good.
When you put a jerrycan in the back, or in your boot.. there is almost a 100% chance it is sitting on fabric or on a mat, or something. In this case, it is NOT grounded.

It may be that your jerrycan is sitting on bare metal inside your vehicle or in a ute tray, and does have grounding (which would be very rare these days in a car — I'm not sure about a ute, but many are lined).. but an attendant is not to know that.

You want to minimise the chances of causing an explosion via static discharge and ignition of fuel vapour or liquid. That is why you need to ground your jerry can by putting it physically on the ground.

If you can't do that yourself, ask another person (another driver) at the servo to help you out.

Don't scream at the attendant, they're highly trained (believe it or not, but it is true), and they are doing their job.

      The car itself is grounded.

A car is not grounded, it's sitting on rubber tyres.

      • Mine has a strap that hits ground (true earth). Tires are irrelevant (in my vehicle at least).

I guess every other car which is probably nearly every car these days the chassis acts as the grounding. It does to the battery at least. Still, the same effect in the end with an isolated pool of volatile combustible liquid which isn't grounded is a recipe for trouble.

        • Battery -ve and ground are not the same thing unless connected. - you for example could ground the battery +ve terminal and now your chassis would be at -12v potential compared to ground.

I believe when filling a car the grounding is established via the actual fuel hose, with high resistance to remove any chance of a spark.

  • Had a crack at this idiot

Says the guy who does not know the difference between dwarfism and a dwarf.

  • +2

    Dudes just doing his job.

It's not up to the poor old worker to decide which safety rules he can ignore.

  • So a worker tells you "hey mate, it's not safe to do that, can you put it on the concrete and fill up?" because it isn't safe, might even get them in trouble if they ignore it and you decide to have a go at em?

Oh boy do you sound fun.

  • OP go to the RMS and tell them you are unfit to drive.

  • +2

I race cars, we fill up 55 gallon drums before an event, as we cant take them off the trailer to fill we go inside and request an earthing strap. I thought this was common knowledge?

You sound like a real self entitled piece of work.
I hope the responses in this thread would make you stop and think that just maybe you are the tosser here but sadly I very much doubt it.

  • +2

You should see the training videos they have for petrol station employees, it shows exactly what not to do and then the resulting fires and carnage when people don't do it right.
Some of the footage is terrifying at how quickly it all goes to hell because of someone who thinks they know better.
Then to think its OK to "have a crack" at the guy who's probably being under paid working behind the counter for doing his job and then suggest you could go legal with Coles is just as idiotic.
Whats the male version of a "Karen"? It needs to be applied here.

I've always wondered what it's like for people like the OP who are so sure they are correct, post up an angry rant, then find out an entire forum disagrees with them.

Do they self reflect? Reconsider their position? Change their opinion? Arrogantly carrying on like they are right?

    • Clearly you've never met an arrogant bogan who drives a ute…. :P

  • Wow, just wow…

  • this very same thing happened to me once,it was way back in the early 1960s, I never did again,Merry and Safe Xmas and New Year
    cheers to every one

    • Thanks I love u too.

I just love this thread because of the title being quite abusive in itself, when in fact it's the OP that is "semi challenged" in their judgement in this situation.

    can I sue Coles

Make sure you aren't on Centrelink first.

  • Damn, all my negs blown in one forum post…. Again.

  • OP probably thinks this is OK.

  • I thought 2019 most loved post has a serious contender now with this post. Made my boring Wed.
