Xiaomi Mijia Magic-Socket Converter $14.28USD (~ $20.82AUD) Delivered from AliExpress

80

So I found this… it says 20% off. Price on geekbuying is $40.43, gearbest is $33-$36.

It's like a powerstrip in cube form, but it supports US plugs too, and has 3 USB ports that can carry 2.1amps, but is limited in total usage to 15.5W (3.1amps)

I ordered the corded one just now. Cord length is 1.5m.
Haven't looked at any review or anything but I feel this would be perfect for my bed.

Remember Chinese plugs are generally upside-down, which could be a bit annoying for the wall version.
Also…

New national standard combination of socket, to meet more electricity demand. Each jack is equipped with a safety door. When metal objects are inserted, a single hole requires more than 75N force to open, which prevent electric shock.

I think I remember you guys mentioning that the xiaomi powerstrips popular here a while back don't accept non-grounded australian plugs? If someone could clarify please… I think it was that the ground prong opens the safety door for the other prongs. Does china not use non-grounded plugs? I don't know if that is the case for this or not, hopefully not! It sounds like it's only for preventing 1 prong at a time, so our non-grounded plugs should still fit, but you can't trust the chinglish.

I don't trust the chinglish, but for me even if they need grounded australian plugs I have enough US and grounded AU plugs for this to be worthwhile for me. I do trust the quality as xiaomi is a good brand.

      • so u do trust em then

Don't recommend. My one broke after a few months. Something broke inside and was rattling when you shook it

Just beware that for Chinese plug with safety door, it might not work with Australia plug that without the earth pin

Because Chinese use the US type for 2pin plug and AU Type for 3pin
I did have experience with XiaoMi electric board that i can’t insert 2 pin plug to it as it needs all 3pins to be plug at the same time

    • Yep I had a smart powerboard like the and you have to brute force 2 pins in to it. Anything but safe if you are going to use two pin appliances.

  • Curious that they've got rid of the two pin euro/us combo socket in favour of just the us two pin.

Means you can't insert a 2 pin Oz plug into those holes.

Just use a toothpick to press in the cover on the earth pin while you’re inserting your regular plug. You only need to get it started.

You're kidding right? Why not just stick a metal fork down there while you're at it

      • You can stick whatever you like in there.

If you aren’t retarded you’ll make sure it’s unplugged while you do so.

I ordered the corded one just now.

Oh they have a cordless one? When did scientists develop a way to reliably transport 2400W OTA?

    • here cordless means wallplug version where the cube goes directly in socket.

  • Thinking about getting a cordless one but they need to make one with AU plugs. If it's plugged into the wall, with upside down AU plugs, you won't be able to plug big adapters in because the wall would block them.

  • Hey guys slight discovery. I found the promotional video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDHXuY8waYw

and look at this screensnap: https://i.imgur.com/fZ7w44i.png

The ground plug looks hollow, but the others have doors. This makes me think that yes this probably will work totally fine with 2 prong AU cables!! Can't confirm of course, but i'll have it in a few weeks I guess :P .

  • Got mine, it's great so far, yes two prong AU plugs plug in totally fine.

  • it's cheaper now @ USD $12.66 shipped
and soon discounted to USD $12.50 shipped (some sort of promotion/sales period)
