    285 Euros = 384.883178 Australian dollars

      thought about warranty?

  • price in title!!!!!!!!!

The Euro conversion works out more to be $396 AUD and any other applicable bank/credit card conversion fees.

And as davidl2 mentioned, the benefit is that it also comes with 12 month local warranty so there is no need to send it back overseas.

  • Shipping costs would be nice to know.

EDIT: Agreed. €285 = AU$396, using current actual rate. (Plus fees etc.)
    EDIT2: You'll also need to source/buy a converter plug

  • It actually looks ok, but for a new product I'd expect usb3 ports.

At a glance, I can only find one Atom D525 with USB3, for sale. And it's $209, for the motherboard alone.

    • I'd also expect CPU and GPU that aren't incredibly slow.

Could this even play a 3D blu-ray (if you added a blu-ray drive or copied the ISO from somewhere)?

Only 1 hard drive bay rules this out for me regardless of price.

    • 6 x USB… use external

USB2 is too slow these days. I tried using one to store recorded tv, and it kept causing win7 mce to crap out. Changed to USB3 and it's fine.

    • it only has 1 HDD bay because its a HTPC. Most people lump HTPC and media server together, but they should really be separate devices. Does cost more though.

      • You don't really need ANY Hard Drive in a networked device.

The whole idea is to STREAM music and video. If you are just going to store the content locally, rather than getting it from the network or internet, then it basically defeats the purpose of a high-end device… you might as well get a $100 cheapy media player.

        • A cheapy media player isn't going to give you the interface and options of a HTPC. Cheapy devices are going to limit you in terms of codecs and not do a whole lot compared with XBMC, MythTV etc.

    • htpc case only needs 1 drive to make it compact. no reason why you cant serve data to it though.

Bang for your buck/Expanadability I think you are better off with a DIY ITX solution.

for an extra $100 you can add a bluray recorder
and $96 for a e750 dual DVB tuner card (usb tuners have a tendancy to overheat)

  • Is it only me think this looks like a cheap external hard drive case? And $399 is not cheap at all. I would rather a MSI Windbox or a Dell Zino HD

  • I Dont know what is the definition of HTPC is these days, but to me - Home Theater PC should also include live TV. Atom D525 and nVidia ion is not going to cut it if you going to add a Dual Digital Tuner. Recording while watching HDTV is going to crap this setting out!

    • My first HTPC was Pentium 4 1.8Ghz in a shuttle PC & it had no issues with Dual tuners, this is faster and much newer GPU which will do most of the playback. I wouldn't do any encoding/transcoding on it but for recording and playback it would be perfect.

just say NO to atom :D

  • Popcorn Hour is a good alternative…. the C200 is a terrific unit and would compare very favourably to the above.

  • Can the remote power on this unit?

  • the HP Proliant n36l microserver is a much better option in my opinion. Faster processer, space for 4 internal 3.5" hard drives and an optical drive, expandable up to 8GB of RAM, gigabit ethernet, you can add in a digital TV tuner and/or PCI-Express video card for HDMI video and audio output, and maybe even gaming.. depending on the card (has to half height though).

    sure it's larger:
    HP = 27 cm(W) x 27 cm(H) x 21 cm(D)

    as opposed to the Xstreamer:
    5.35 cm(W) x 21.3 cm(H) x 14.2 cm(D)

but it's a lot more expandable and you can use it as a media player AND home NAS at the same time.
EDIT: oh and the n36l you can buy for $240 if you look around. HDMI video card (ATI HD5450 costs $30), 4GB RAM costs about $35, 2TB Hard Drive is $80, Microsoft Media Centre compatible remote costs between $20-30 for a cheap one.
