      Who cares?

You’re right. We shouldn’t let this distract us from the fact that on this day in 1803, the French flag lowered in New Orleans to mark the formal transfer of the Louisiana Purchase from France to USA for $27M

        • Why did France own Louisiana?
Edit: Louisiana is a lot larger than I expected
Edit-edit: Thanks, I learned something today.

        • (profanity) the downvoters. This was an interesting fact.

Fact, Microsoft also chose 1803 as one of their major Windows 10 updates followed by 1903.

      Dare I say you've been… "Triggered"?

      • Is that you, Dad?

I’d love to know why you’re so angry about this. MS copy Sony all the time. Lots of companies follow the moves of other companies all the time. What’s the issue??

      • +2

It gives him something to complain about. That's all some people need.

Scuf invented the back paddles. Microsoft literally copied someone else.

    • did you know the new Xbox controller is adding a share button?

How to milk people for $50 before integrating it into the next controller.

  • +8

It's not like people are forced to buy it… It's an extra optional feature. Just like the controlfreeks precision add ons. Having the OPTION for customisation is a good thing.

      Not really!
With the PS5 around the corner, by releasing this now allows Sony to fix bugs and problems before to incorporate this device with PS5 as part of the console.
With that said, games and so on will take advantage of the new "attachment", meaning, if you don't buy it you won't have the right experience or won't enjoy the games forcing you to buy it.

      Better example? Sure.

Xbox One in order for you to use a headset, you had to buy a Headset Adapter. You could play without it but it isn't the same experience WITH it, you cannot hear the adversary running towards you like crystal clear, killing it without seeing where the bullet come from.

What happened with Xbox One S??? There is a dedicated 3.5mm audio socket out of the box, no adapter needed.

This is a passive way to force something without being noticed.

      • With that said, games and so on will take advantage of the new "attachment", meaning, if you don't buy it you won't have the right experience or won't enjoy the games forcing you to buy it.

It's more like the other way around. If it's an optional attachment, games won't bother incorporating it because not enough people have it.

No one's going to force you to buy it. It will be a harder job forcing devs to use it.

But in any case, this is not even a thing to add into games. It's literally something you can reprogram as a combination of buttons. You're not getting new features. It's not like say a touch pad or touch screen, or motion controls, something that's new to the controller. The game won't even know if you have the attachment or not.

        • Got ya.
I guess you guys will have to wait for the PS5 to find that out.

@ratoloko: Do we really? How many people made games for the PS Move? Or the Wii Motion Plus? Or Kinect after the initial few months? Anything that's not packed in, a dev can't assume people will have, so it can't be a critical feature if they bother to use it at all.

How many multi plat games use the PS4 controller's unique features? The touch pad and motion sensors. Almost none, and if they do, it will be in rudimentary ways.

This back pedal does not add new features. It's not a new button. It just mirrors existing buttons. So a game dev does not have to do anything to make use of it.

            • @lostn: "The touch pad and motion sensors. Almost none" —- true. The ones that do use it is just a big WTF!? HAHAHA

I'm not sure, but I think they're subtly hinting it's competitive.
