For those that have bought it full price within two weeks will be credited the difference if SCA plus card was used.

Click and collect available.

Shoot. About 00:15 this morning I ordered one 10 litres on sale from Repco (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/507559). Anyone think I could get a refund or maybe store credit? And does anyone know whether Repco will price match with Supercheap?

    • Repco does price match but they do check the sku is identical (volume etc.). I've found them less than willing to accept returns recently, they put up the most aggressive fight I've seen for a DOA in years.

      • +3

I do have to give credit to super cheap in that area, any time I've had to return something it's never been a problem.

  • $31.67 each with cashback. Thanks OP just stocked up on another 3. I'm having to use 0.5L a month as top on up. I have an oil burning Audi A3 (1.8T engine). Will soon have to replace the piston rings at the expense of Audi.

    • +3

Had a Skoda with probably the same engine (1.8T).

Used to use 1/2 lt per 1000km from new…. Engine rebuilt under warranty (after numerous tests and disagreements)
Poor workmanship as well (turbo pipe popped off after install, oil leaks)

Was so impressed with the service, sold the car and now have a strong distrust for VW even though the car was functionally great.

      • VW nowadays is just low end crap no longer made in germany. Its always the gearbox problem or some other crap. And charge arm and leg for service/repairs. That's why they been fined for cheating emmissions testing too.

Having said that, this oil is API SL, so unless you have older engine pre 2004 your car probably benefit from an API SN rated oil

        • I think the problem is too much tech and electronics. I do know the Automatic gearboxes are more expensive to maintain but mine is a 6 speed manual. I wanted to upgrade to a 2014/15 Audi A3 but unfortunately no manual transmission here in AUS. Since my car has 109xxx km, I'm nearing the major service (120k). Audi service centre printed off the slip (quote $1050) and said, "hold on, something's not right. It's usually $3k+). He spent 5 minutes comparing scope of works and noticed that the $3k+ was for that of an Automatic. Apparently every 60k kms the Automatics require a transmission service which costs at least $1.8k because of high labour and special parts. He said I was lucky for owning a manual. Well sucks now that automatic is the only option. Thank you new Audi buyers for killing the manual (and salesmen for convincing people to buy Auto).

          • @gezza90: thats why they have only auto now, can charge more for service lol.. transmission service is bullshit, just have to change the auto oil and that doesnt cost much. Well i guess they know their buyers are rich people who dont car much about $$ spent.

      • Yeah If it begins to drink/burn an unusual amount of oil, I'm gna have to take it to Audi to fix. My car is a 2010 with 109,xxx km on it with full Audi service history.

  • Sigh….still waiting for the VW 504.00/507.00 ones to go on sale

    • what's the difference ?

      low saps ?

  • 10% off gift cards from Entertainment Book for those who have it too.
With 1.25% payment processing fee, brings it down to about $29.42 per bottle.

  • how often do people change their oils

    • +1

Depends on your service interval recommendations. My Camry is every 10,000 but I change the oil and filter every 7k-8k.

    • Depends what oil you use.

This oil is good for 10k KMs in most applications. Anything less is pretty much throwing your money away.

  • Thanks, about time. Needed one for a service.

    • New to Australia. How much can we save on synthetic oil change service when we provide the oil?

      • +1

Usually around $50~ from experience with my parents car (Subaru and Honda)

  • +2

This is API SL spec, latest is API SN, I know this has been said before, and that some of you think SL oils are better, however saying it again for the benefit of those that havent seen this deal in its previous iterations. The main difference is reduced zinc levels in SN vs SL, zinc might slow kill some newer catalytic converters. And then there are those that say they would prefer zinc in the oil for its lubricating qualities and save their engine at the expense of their cats.

    • +1

Yep you should use SN oil. If you want to protect your engine, then just change the oil every 6 months.

    • I was about to post a related concern about this oil. According to API, catergory SL of this particular oil is recomended only for vehicle 2004 or older
      https://www.api.org/products-and-services/engine-oil/eolcs-c…
After found out about this, I've stopped using this oil for my 2007 and 2017 vehicles.

  • Bummer, went to Repco and got the 10l drum and have already poured some into my car. Unlikely getting a refund?

    • Pretty much, it's no longer sealed.

      • Small concession: I got an oily tap in the lid. I guess that oil should be good enough for a MY 2000 Subaru Outback 2.5l petrol?

  • Thanks a lot op. Been waiting for this awesome deal to come back.

  • Wish 10w-30 went on sale for my 4WD, I'll have to wait, not sure about 5w vs 10w either

  • +1

What a shame… Two days after I had to buy two five litre bottles at like $70 each… Oh well haha

    • +5

Buy two of this one and return them with the old receipt. If you bought the same brand

  • +3

extra 8% off with Supercheap Auto gift card purchase from Suncorp Benefit app (membership required) . On top 2.1% cashback. Total extra 10.1%…

    • Similar for SCA gift cards from entertainment book

    • ps minimum $50 value

    • I tried using gift cards but I keep getting an error:
      {"success":false,"sid":"payment"}

  • New to Australia. How much can we save on synthetic oil change service when we provide the oil?

    • +6

      yes

    • +1

You'd save the most if you did the oil change yourself. Depending on the accessibility of your filter it may not be difficult.

    • +1

Not even sure if mechanics would do it for you if you brought the oil, some might, not sure. But i would imagine it to be like bringing your own food to a restaurant to be cooked

  • thanks OP bought two.
the 1L was AUD22 so will use the 5L as a 1L top-up for my 6L per oil change. should last me for the next couple of years.

  • Bought the Magnatec start stop one on sale at autobarn not too long ago for $20. What are the differences?

    • While both are fully synthetic, there are varying degrees of "Full Synthetic".

The Castrol edge has about 1000 ppm Zinc vs the 800 ppm Zinc on the Magnatec. Other edges the edge has (sorry) are the higher levels of zinc/phosphate levels and added "titanium" which all act as a anti-wear agent on engine parts.

Is castrol edge worth $5 more? Not really for every day use. For spirited driving or high reving engines? Probably (I bought the Edge)

  • Which oil for Toyota Corolla 2001 1.6L Auto ?

Castrol website says 5w30 is best and 10w40 is better.
However SCA website says 10w40 is recommended. They don't suggest 5w30.

    • I just did mine, similar car and put this stuff in it. Either is good - its only a Corolla.

  • Now at $50.31 even with 30% discount. What a joke. I usually buy Nulon/Castrol full synthetic 5L for $25-$35 and that's the normal price.

  • +1

Looks like its back on sale till 9th Jan.

  • This or 5L Nulon 5w30 full synth? similar price at repco
