  • That's a nice price

    • Bought for $2,575 from JB Hi-Fi today.
With additional 1yr warranty and delivery tomorrow.

      Happy Boxing Day!

P.S. - VideoPro price was $2,527 delivered for me.

      • Negotiated a reduced price or?

        • +1

          Asked for a better price.
          TV price is $2,500.
$75 is for prompt next day delivery.
Else it was $39 delivery for next week.

      • Asked HN and got it for 2495. No additional warranty. Delivery included.

The guy said they dont unbox for you though? Thought it was standard to unbox and take it out to ensure all ok??

  • Got it 2 weeks ago at 2399, watching Witcher… its glorious.

Best bang for buck right now.

C9 is a better TV if its not a huge difference in pricing

      • Yep. I got my C9 65" 6 weeks ago for $2295 thanks to price protection on my credit card

        • +2

How could you get that price? The cheapest C9 is $2657 2 weeks ago from TGG.

          • +2

@vhfyagi: My price was only possible due to being able to stack price protection with bonus giftcards. I bought mine from HN for $3795 with $570 of giftcards which I sold for $500. Then price claimed against the recent TGG deal and got a full $1000 back.

          • +1

@vhfyagi: You will be amazed how people get different prices. I got one from TGG for $2660 in the last deal will be delivered tomorrow, but only paid $1060 out of pocket, rest $1600 in gift cards which I didn’t purchase.

            • @Yoo05: If you didn't purchase the gift cards were the 1600 in free cards??

              • @SaberX: Got 2x $500 GG Gift Cards thorugh the Telstra deal and 2x $300 efptos gift card from a previous purchase from Harvey Norman. Glad i kept the efptos gift cards.

                • @Yoo05: wow! i had no idea you could do that, i still have no idea what the telstra deal or efpos deal is… but is it free gift cards if you purchased a certain product? and what exactly was the "Good guy deal" that allowed everyone to then price protection this on top? was it on sale recently?

It is indeed glorious (I have a B8) … but the crazy thing is modern high end CRT such as Sony Trinitron or the other brand's flat screen CRT's like Diamondtron wallop any flat panel.

Like they look amazing with modern gaming content: low resolution with AA looks incredibly sharp and there's none of the temporal motion problems that all flat panels suffer from albeit that backlight strobing such as ULMB may get close to CRT. Black levels are very close to black.

      • +8

        What is a 'modern' crt?

You know it's almost 2020 right?
I haven't seen a crt for sale in over a decade.

        • +4

Too many Christmas Eve brew's, I think.

      • +1

Imagine the size of a 65" CRT . You would have to have it craned in .

I just wish there was a decent PC light gun for LCD's .

      • +1

Did you watch the DigitalFoundry video and then decide you're some sort of expert on display quality?

The DF guys are great most of the time, but their analysis of the CRT stuff is absolutely lacking in any sort of rigour - it's a totally opinionated editorial, and their footage shows gray blacks and nothing particularly sharp nor exceptional.

Moreover, there's are several significant issues, including but not limited to geometry problems, rarity, cost, size, color accuracy, weight… we've moved on from CRTs for good reason - including professionals.

Just because CRTs might have some lingering benefits (which on the OLED are more than acceptable) in their high-end range over modern displays, doesn't actually mean that display technology hasn't improved massively over what we had then.

I liken modern day CRT lovers to modern day Vinyl lovers. These are people that have an emotional bias towards nostalgia - they're not informed by actual double blind A-B quality testing.

Witcher is pretty damn good I reckon. I've got 1 episode left to watch.

  • +3

I thought it was a c9 and almost bought haha

    • +2

I’ve been waiting for a deal on the c9.. let’s hope something pops up Boxing Day. I would like to be at $2650 Including shipping.. can only hope.

      • -1

so no one here is worried about screen burn in with oled?

        • +3

Hasn't happened to mine. I've had mine more than 18 months. Have played games that have a HUD you might think would cause burn in, but nothing. When you turn the TV off it does some pixel refreshing of sorts. There's also a manual one you can do in settings. I haven't done it myself. But I think it is a more thorough version of the one that happens automatically and takes some time. I think Samsung were the ones trying to push the screen burn in because they don't make oled panels.

I have read a comment in some forum of a guy who was gaming 10 hours a day nearly every day and had pretty bad screen burn in of the HUD on his Sony oled. But that is a pretty extreme case.

          • +3

@Shaun Prawn: I'm due for a screen replacement in the coming days with my 55" B7. I don't have any burn in issues after 6000hrs but I do have the dreaded 25% rectangle fault which LG have confirmed worldwide was a manufacturing defect caused my running a test routine on the panels before they cooled completely.

            • @reecho: I have the same TV 55 B7T… How can you tell if you have the fault? I just did a quick google search and saw some people showing a faint rectangle shape but it's showing on a screen which is one solid colour. Can you see it even when displaying normal content?

LG are apparently fixing it for free even out of warranty. That's pretty good.

              • @Shaun Prawn: Normal content I view doesn't show it up that much. Ads which have full colour images at the end show it up. To create some photos that looked quite bad to send to LG I downloaded some colour test videos. They did the trick. The nature of the fault means every time the "Pixel Refresher" utility runs (every 2000hrs) the image gets worse. It could be corrected with a firmware refresh but LG are replacing panels currently.

        • I read that LG has a picture shift / deduce brightness for static logs using processing that if the pixle is showing the same logo for along time

        • Been using my C7 as a PC monitor for 2 years. Yep, I know. everyone is gonna call me crazy for using it as a monitor. I do keep my taskbar hidden and try not to keep any one element of the screen static. I do however spend tons of hours on Discord and still no burn in. Although i do watch a lot of shows on it too or have other people come and use it as a regular TV. It's in my lounge room, and i have a wireless mouse + kb. I cant fathom going back to a normal sized monitor now… Even my 27" 1440p screen feels tiny.

      • That's how much I paid last week. Good guys have no more stock. That was the lowest so far

    • +1

What are the main differences between the B9 and the C9?

      • Calibration out of the box, HDMI 2.1, brightness, software speed, dual tuners vs single.

        • B9 has last gen processor vs C9 Current gen processor

  • Excellent price. Almost pulled the trigger, but they don't ship to Adelaide :(

  • Amazing price

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/65-inch

Best 65 inch TV they have tested when factoring when factoring in price.

    • Imagine paying only a few hundred more to get the best TV tested!

      • Its currently like $1-2K more.

        • It was $2800 last week. Bought with gift vouchers it was $2640. I was about to jump on b9, but a few hundred more was way too good to pass up for all the extras and QOL upgrades. Still, $2300 for b9 is incredible if that's the absolute upper limit of your budget.

          • @onlinepred: can one easily find $2,300 B9's in store say jb, good guys etc if waiting for a deal?

Was going to pull the trigger on a sony x950g or something at the $1980 price on today's sales as the samsung q75r's look to be high $2ks… but for an OLED… would wait!

Crazy all the comments here how theye are getting C9's for low to mid 2000 also, i clearly need to hand back my ozb badge!

            • @SaberX: I would think you could yes. Just keep your ears and eyes peeled on ozb.

  • +1

Still I don't trust their article about Burn mark!
Seems real according to people feedback!

    • Yea many people have no clue how OLED works or how to use it. People don't read manuals anymore. If you did, then you would have no issues.

      • care to elaborate? genuinely interested (bought a b9 today)

        • Don't leave static images without using a screen saver. Don't leave on a news channel or just a single channel for hours a day every day. Don't leave it on a movie every day for hours with black bars. If you vary your content then you have nothing to worry about.

Make sure you tube it btw, the b9 is pretty bad out of the box, but can be tuned to get close to c9.

  • So is this one compatible with the G-Sync and 120hz update?

  • +1

Price has been raised to $2882 on ebay site so now $2449.70 + shipping.

  • +2

$2475 delivered for a 65 b9 from in store at good guys
Left it till late and went in at about 5.30pm seemed very quiet so maybe they needed the sale.

    • Do they unbox on delivery?got it for 2495 delivered from harvey but the guy mentioned they only drop it off and thats it. I know no connecting but surely unboxing to ensure product ok was standard ?

    • I am interested, can I ask which good guys store and who is the sales person?

    • I'm interested in getting one too, may I ask which location and the sales guy?

  • Just drop off I reckon.
Unboxing would take quite a bit of time.
Stand has to be installed while it's still in packaging for a start.
I really enjoy unboxing stuff myself anyway.

    • THat was my next question.. having never had to assemble one except an old 32 " LED many years back - i've heard you can't lay these flat. YOu may have answered my question but once they drop off the LED i was wondering how one goes about unboxing by themself let alone how to lift and install the stand. i've seen some youtube videos of the tv laid flat then stand installed , but that would go against the 'do not lay flat' principle.

YOu've mentioned stand has to be added while in the packaging? Is that a B9 specific thing that the instructions will tell you to do? i.e. unbox, but leave in packaging while stand is attached?

Keen to hear how you go after delivery tomorrow!

Reckon we got an alright deal? You don't feel salty about the C9 being 2650-2800 in the recent good guys deals ? Keep anchoring back to it, although I know its doubtful we'll see it again before they release the next gen…

      • Sitting on my couch in in awe right now. This tv looks freakin amazing. Very happy. Even the missus loves it, and that's something.
I got about 5 minutes of watching planet earth in uhd before the 5yo stole the remote and somehow worked out how to use voice command to put on Beyblades.

        Unboxing it was sketchy af.
The box lifts of leaving the foam on the set. There is a slip of paper that shows how to install the stand..You have to put some of the foam back in the box and one piece of foam on the top of the box. Then you lay the tv down onto the box with the bottom hanging off so you can install the stand. I was stressing out to say the least. You absolutely need 2 people. It's very awkward to handle.

        But yeh.. loving this tv.
C9 would have been nice, but I had hundreds in GG gift cards that can't be used on eBay.. plus my store (Geelong) never has click and collect stock.
B9 will do me just fine.

        • I just rang harvey norman to chase up my receipt that never emailed through and the guy who i spoke to i queried as i found out my dads was unboxed and put on the stand etc for him. Turna out its a recent thing but normal delivery guys wont deliver and install anymore. You need to be a licensed tech? So that'll be a more expensive service. So yeah guess i didnt miss out on anything as they would charge 200,300 easily for something like this.

So sketchy unboxing but largely all in the manual when you unbox as to how you setup the stand? I saw a c9 video so im assuming you pull off the box upwards. Lay that flat then that forms the base for putting your tv on it?? And you laid it screen face down onto the foam on top if box?so in other words it doesnt touch any box physically??

Def sounds stressful for those of us who've never done it before.

Ill make a note of getting my dad out to help with the unboxing. Or maybe a mate.

No calibration etc needed straight out of box?plug and play with the standard self guided setup, connect to wifi setup and so forth? So pretty much up and running with tv or the ps4?

Can't wait to checkout mine! Just realised reviews dont give it the highest for bright areas compared to the non oleds e.g. samsung s75/q80 etc… but im in a bright room with indirect light as the tv wall shields sunlight. Fingers crossed!

How are you finding the LG webOS system compared to android tv (if youve ever had a mibox or sony tv) or say a samsung tizen interface?

P.s. deactivatr the voice command so your viewing time cant be hijacked by beyblade? Haha
