        I think they meant they bought the hairdryer, then in a separate transaction, used the gift card from the hairdryer to buy the air purifier

  These things are crazy.
  Dyson is a hell of a good engineer / marketing guy.
  Make things only a tiny bit better than some of the opposition and then charges crazy amounts.
  Can't blame people for getting sucked in.
