Brew cold brew coffee the easy way with the Hario Cold Brew Pot 1 L. Built with a heatproof Hario glass carafe and a BPA-Free plastic filter and lid, it doesn’t get much simpler that this.

Cold brew coffee is known for being smooth and sweet compared to hot brewed coffee. Cold water doesn’t extract as many acids and tannins, reducing in a low acidity and low bitterness in the final cup. You can use the concentrate to make iced coffee, hot coffee, or mixed drinks.

The permanent mesh filter has 60 micron holes, too small to allow coffee grounds to enter your final brew. It’s easy to clean and should last a lifetime.

Here’s a brief recipe:

Coarsely grind 80g of coffee into the mesh filter.
Add 1 L of cold, clean water to the pot.
Let it steep for 12-18 hours in the fridge.
Take out the filter and store the concentrate in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Mix the concentrate with cold water and ice for iced coffee, hot water for hot coffee, or mixers and a spirit for a coffee-cocktail.

      Glad you got one! They have been very popular over summer, ideal!

      You want a medium grind, like raw sugar - I would grind a few grams, look at it, then adjust either way depending on the results, looking for a medium grind

        Would the coarsest setting on the Baratza Sette 270 be ok for this cold brew?

      I have the same grinder, I have taken one of the shims out (easy to do, unscrew the nut clockwise, remove washer, replace nut by screwing in counter clockwise)

      The coarsest setting imo is too fine, so hopefully the removal of the shim will fix that. I'm yet to test it, but apparently should increase the coarseness from a max setting of 25 to 32.

      Thats correct, coming from international seller, who should have then taxes on entry I believe - hard to beat the internationals with the dollar so weak but we are just ahead with dispatch tomorrow! :)

    i have never used one …. looks like a slightly messy process trying to submerge coffee grinds which are oily in water, like cocoa in cold milk. can i get the same results with a french press or does that become even messier ?
    can i use preground supermarket beans or it’s the wrong grind it’s for work so needs to be convenient and low mess in kitchen area so can’t use grinder at work.

      I’ve made cold brew with a french press before, it’s definitely doable. You don’t press down the filter until after 12-18 hours in the fridge. The seller has a good guide here.

      Cold brew takes a minimum of 12 hours. This isn't a 2-minute brew & drink you do during lunch break at work. Brew overnight at home and pour into a thermos for work.

    I made another cold brew batch overnight with the Hario - pretty good results with this BUT I haven’t gotten as good end product (to my taste) as I have previously with the Toddy, which I would say achieved a more delicate flavour profile with the same blend - and probably a stronger concentrate.

    Will play with the grind and time a little more and see.

        I should try letting it bloom for longer perhaps - or are you suggesting a hot bloom?

        There seems to be some support for using a very small volume of hot water for the bloom when making cold brew to release fruitier flavours and characteristics. Will play around.

    I highly recommend this product. Got one about 3 weeks ago as gift from my wife. It produces amazing iced coffee (using my locally sourced coffee beans) that isn't full of all the sugar/milk of traditionally packaged iced coffee.

    Produces enough for about 5-6 iced coffees for me. I make it overnight. Remove the grounds in the morning is a little messy but not too bad then it sits in the fridge for 3-4 days while I use.

    Don't waste your money. Just buy one of these.
    Grind 80gms of your favourite coffee the same as you would for French press,stick in the fridge for 6-12hrs,take the filter out
    and presto,cold brew coffee. Don't forget to give it a stir before you use it.

      That one isn't BPA free though. Quality of Hario products is worth the premium.

        No where in the instructions does it say it is BPA free!
        In revision both are BPA free as polypropylene is certifiably BPA-free.
