Amazon AU Seller Wants Item Returned

I bought an item from a lightning deal on amazon au recently. It arrived today. The seller has sent a message saying that it was sold at an incorrect price and can I return it please. I’ve never returned an item so have no idea how that works. It’s quite inconvenient to visit the post office.

It was about an 80% discount to normal price. Though it was a good lightning deal.

Do I have an ethical obligation to do anything here? Should it cost me time and money to remedy the seller’s mistake?

What do people think?

I'd keep it, personally I'd think it's an attempted scam

  • Edit; Nvm, keep it.

It’s the seller’s mistake, they should take the loss not the buyer.

Lol no way I'd be sending it back.

  • Don't do it Eric

Lmao what report it to amazon or just ignore it

Tell them to go through Amazon. I think the contract is between you and Amazon not the seller but I would double check.

    What is the item?

their problem.. keep it. you in good faith made the purchase and handed over your money. you are under no obligation to return it if it was their error.

I wonder if it was the Muzili Speaker?

The seller left us a nice review :p Despite the coupon being listed on the product page and still kept there weeks later.

    • Or this?

I saw that too, but it was sold by Amazon AU (not a third party seller) and not a lightning deal.

Now, look at it as a seller, postage costs you ~$8 and the item cost is $4. The seller is at a loss of $7 per item. I would estimate $7000 in loss.

Then why did the seller make the code?

      • Because it's always someone elseis faulty
        Just not mine 😆

    • wow there's so many awful reviews for this website. where exactly is all the bullying?

      • Most reviews are from disgruntled sellers who posted a bad deal or got caught for sockpuppeting etc. They come up with all sorts of wild claims/conspiracies. Sometimes from banned users or it's used as a way to threaten us (unban me/our store or I'll leave 1 star reviews etc.) Basically pointless.

Some discussion about that here and here.

You bought the Item for the advertised price.
They sent you the Item after you paid the advertised price.

You own the Item, end of story :)

Tell them that you will send it back but they have to pay postage.
    $25 registered postage >_<

Why would you even waste your time considering return of the item? You paid, you received it, end of transaction.

If they have a problem with the price it was sold for, they should contact amazon, not you.

  • Yeah that's not how sales work. Ask them to refund you first, plus the return shipping costs and see what they say.

  • Send it to me, and I'll send it back to the seller for you.

  • How do they plan to pay for shipping?

Thanks for all the comments and votes. My first poll! BTW, it was a solar charger.

Received a reply from Amazon. They said ignore it. So tomorrow I’ll be trying out my new solar charger. Thanks all for your interest.

  • Tell them you’ve already sold it
