Sorry, as an Ozb member, I am not willing to pay a 60% Aust Day Tax lol
you step/stand on it anyway, who cares about the design?

I’ve looked at the Kmart ones selling for $1.25 this past weekend and they look so thin and flimsy. I already have the Aldi Australia Day ones and they are thick and strong. Definitely getting a 2nd pair when they are available in a week.

        • I cane believe you just said that…

this is Aus design made in ..not aus

          • @figlia: It’s sad we have to say this, but you’d be very lucky to find anything made in Australia anymore. I am pretty sure if Kmart is selling thongs for $1.25 they were not made here.

        • Don't bother about an Australian flag either, just get a dark blue pillow case from K-Mart when you buy your thongs… it's slightly cheaper

    • TIL. Thank you!

    • Says Womens… Where the men's ones

    • I find them slippery.

    • Funny enough I lost one Aldi thong, and bought the Kmart ones as a replacement. The other foot cracked in first week. So had one Aldi, one Kmart. Wore right through kmart thong, ALDI one is still perfect. Kmart thongs are good if you want a replacement strap, but that's about it.
I find Havi's too hard. Aldi a good comfort / longevity compromise.

Nothing says patriotism like putting your dirty feet on a flag. Are these manufactured in Australia?

Just base level nationalist garbage. Imagine celebrating the 200th anniversary of the day a genocide started to be committed.

Not so much to Margaret Court or anyone else who utters a word against LGBTQ…

          • +2

@RSmith: Oh joy. Politics on a footwear thread.

I was pointing out how ridiculous it is to say "Herrrr you can always leave!" besides not beig true, it's one of the most un-Australian things you can say.

              @The Gent:

another right that this wonderful country affords her residents.

              Politics on a footwear thread.

Everyone needs footwear, regardless of their political leanings.

it's one of the most un-Australian things you can say.

Really… Un-australian is such a cringy word/phrase. It should be banned.

            • @The Gent: its even more ridiculous to link a harmless pair of sandals with genocide, patriotism, far-right leanings etc
its very decently priced for a blue printed set, too
plain ones are $1.5 at BigW

I don't consider someone trying to silence another person's freedom of speech "ridiculous". I consider it very dangerous.

                • +3

@The Gent: Yep. Just like Margaret Court is being silenced by the vocal minority. Dangerous indeed

                  • +1

@RSmith: This is such an odd tangent…yes, a private organisation is exercising its freedom of expression by considering not honouring someone who doesn't share their values.

That is a epitome of freedom, not the lack of it. A person is free to express their views and others are free to critisise and act accordingly within the law.

Just like my view: tennis is a ridiculously boring sport and only the most outstanding dullard would even bother wasting time to form an opinion on someone not getting a pat on the back for playing it well 50 years ago.

    • which public space, park or rock are we going to claim as sacred this year?

      • I think 'sea country' is the next battle.

    • fervent nationalism sold to us through consumerism. should be an inclusive date and flag.

        Hahahaha

        Designed and engineered in Australia.
        Made in PRC.

      • +2

Which part? One quarter of the flag was designed in UK.

        • +1

The rest of it… Aka 3 quarters.

          • +1

@RSmith: Not even that - Edward VII altered the winning contest entry. So, I think it's fair to say it's at most one half.

          • @RSmith: The rest of it was designed by the night sky.

        • Wouldn't is all have been? #ColonyLyf

          • +11

@RSmith: Is there a discount code to get Australians to work for Chinese wages?

            • +2

@AlexF: Enter in LNP1 at election time

          • +2

@RSmith: Discounting Australia’s future and your grandchildren living in a sovereign nation that isn’t in debt to an overseas controlling state.

          • @RSmith: I believe they call it, "internships"

        • +1

          They aren’t double plugs though.

$40 is getting up there for thongs, $45 for green.

        • +4

Nah mate. Black is for formal occasions like weddings and funerals.

  • +1

Question, If I buy these and put my feet in them, you reorient be able to see the flag no more… How youse all going to know that I'm supporting Straya day? Will it be when I thong fight another bloke?

    • +5

When you bust a plug and stack it causing your Billabong shorts to fall down as you're running after the BWS van because you heard they were giving away free VB

I would be more worried about same-sex marriage supporters, because they forced the government to rewrite the constitution.

      • Constitution changes tend to happen when a Government receives OVERWHELMING support for it. Also makes the original Constitution look like a joke, as well as the people who thought it was “fine the way it is”

      • +1

No they (we) didn't…. The Government CAN NOT change the constitution it can only be changed by referendum which is a formal vote by the people on the change to the constitution.

The Marriage Act is what was changed by government after a plebiscite. An informal non binding vote assessing people's views. The Government can change any Act if the vote is approved in both houses.
