A Nintendo switch lite for $144.50 is amazing. What else was there left?

    • Not much left, I'm assuming most of the big ticketed item were staff reserved (ie. Full size Switch, accessories and appliances)

They had a few Switch Lite left as of this comment, limit to 1 per person now.

      • Oh how I'd love to be able to access that. Thanks, if there's nothing much left I won't bother going down.

        • They had heaps of Xbox One games left on the shelf. Discount also stacks with catalogue specials (boxing day and back to school).

          • @RichardL: That might be worth a trip in itself, thanks!
btw banner says it excludes game cards like Xbox Live etc not games

  • Which closing down store did u see a couple left at? Awesome price!!!
    Edit: nevermind saw your photo

    • Neeta City, Fairfield.

  • Did you see switch games? Might give it a shot if theres switch games.

Edit: nvm just realised you are referring to Fairfield in nsw ..

Pokémon Sword and Shield are $32.50. Plenty of stock at Auburn.

      • Not anymore :(

      • Too late Jimmy! :/

        • +3

Actually I got lucky!! I asked behind the counter and they have some stock remaining. Try your luck!

          • +1

@Jimmy6: They have heaps of stock behind the counter, got a few other games such as Luigi mansion, etc.

            • @RichardL: Is it just Nintendo switch games? Or do they have consoles left too?

            • @RichardL: Damn! Didn't know they had that. I asked what other games are available but she didn't state the luigi game was available :(

  • +4

Surprised they didnt relocate surplus stock to other stores.

    • +3

Most of the big ticketed item has been relocated (ie. PS4 Console/Games).

  • +1

    Wow

    • +13

Yes, Owen Wilson, this deal is great.

  • When I went to Fairfield over the weekend the stock left wasn't amazing. Most core lines look to have been moved to other stores and the leftover stock wasn't great. But at 50% could be worthwhile to head back

  • Won’t be a lot left in those suburbs. The type of people to negotiate with you for an hour to get a $3 discount.

    • +1

the Big W experiment to take up leases in less frequented/dormant shopping centres wasn't a great idea.

      • +2

Unfortunately good retail management has been lacking at Woolworths group for at least 10 years. Especially the Masters debacle, which should have been an easy victory.

Most of the only thing they've successfully done in that time is financial management i.e cost control.

      • The Fairfield store has been there for 30 years, it ain't new. The Chullora one has probably been there just as long. People are just doing their shopping at larger complexes and these one haven't grown with the times

        • The Fairfield store has been there for 30 years, it ain't new

Since when? Pretty sure they moved in after Target left mid-2000s. Neeta City itself is barely 30 years old.

          • @kerfuffle: Wasnt the target on one level and the big w on the other?

Just as a side note Kmart was in the Forum which I hear is dead these days

            • @Jackson: It wasn't there when this guy's family bought it, otherwise I'm sure he would have mentioned Big W

Big W was definitely at Stockland Wetherill Park 30 years ago or at least 26 years ago; my parents used to buy me stuff from Wendy's before we walked into Big W

              • @kerfuffle: My parents used to buy me stuff from what I rated as the best fish n chips ever before the big renovation. They are still there now but it's not quite the same.

You may be right, I may be crazy, I just remember that there was a Target in Neeta City and another big dept store right above it, I thought it was Big W but maybe not?

                • @Jackson: Could be Best and Less; that's been there ages and pretty big (especially as a kid)

                  • @kerfuffle: Yes I think you are right, it was a best and less! That was a deep dig to get those memory proteins out

            • @Jackson: Kmart's still in the Forum. There also used to be one in Fairfield West, which got demolished and took about 15 years to be redeveloped into a Coles and small shopping centre.

I hear is dead these days

Only on Boxing Day when nothing else except Coles and Kmart is open; it's pretty busy otherwise.

              • @kerfuffle: That one in FFwest was alongside a New World (before it became Coles New World). Isn't here an aldi on part of that site now?

                • @Jackson: I don't remember a Coles being there. There was a Bi-Lo though. And yeah, Aldi came by around 2001 or something around those lines, but Coles didn't come (back?) until the early 2010s

                  • +1

@kerfuffle: Yeah the Bi Lo opened shortly after the forum opened as it became too comparatively down market to be a coles

My first job interview was at that Kmart, I can't believe I didn't get the job. A kid at my school who sat the interview with his mum got the job instead!

  • Were there any electronic items, or electronic health and beauty products (Toothbrushes, hair straighteners etc)?

    • +1

They had electric toothbrush in the entertainment department.

      • +8

What kind of entertainment can you have with an electric toothbrush??

        Oh wait…

  • +1

Only yellow left. The guy in front got the last blue :( grabbed anyway!

    • +2

Did you make eye contact with your fellow ozbargainer?

      • Nope. Too disappointed wishing I could have found parking a minute earlier!

        • +5

I’m the guy :) It took me about 5 mins to pick a colour

          • +1

            @matt15: LOL!!
I actually kinda like yellow now.
            It's grown on me :)

            Enjoy the switch!

  • Sold out only in Fairfield? How would stock be in Auburn?

    • +5

No consoles phones or tablets left at Auburn. All moved to other stores. Was just there and asked.

      • Thanks, saved me a trip

      • Did you see any Nintendo Switch games available?

        • +1

Pokémon sword and shield both had stock 30 minutes ago

  • -2

    How about Macquarie Centre?

    • +2

Only the above 3 stores were named as closing down in their initial announcement

      • +3

Wait for the next wave of closures

    • +1

surely macquarie does better than top ryde

      • I assume they will close stores where leases are lapsing first. I don’t think it has anything to do with performance.

        • Pretty sure it's based on performance; I read somewhere that some stores had their leases broken so they could close it down

          • @kerfuffle: Ah thanks. I was surprised at the locations chosen.

            • +1

@grasstown: With the Fairfield store, it's in a crappy shopping centre and still stuck in original 90s decor (including the store sign). It replaced Target, which moved to a different shopping centre, which has a more modern Big W

              • @kerfuffle: Looks like the Fairfield store will be turning into (paraphrasing the local paper) 148 additional carpark spaces, a childcare centre, multiple kiosk stores and toilets …

The $5 million move would make it easier for shoppers to find parking — Neeta City’s parking spaces would increase to 1234 all up — and streamline traffic flow, Elanor Investment Group claims in its development application

                Right.

                • +2

@kerfuffle: Good luck with that…I don't I've ever seen the carpark full at Fairfield…(top floor always empty)

I don't think more parking matters if there's no customers/shop left..

                  • +1

@RichardL: I've seen it quite full… Christmas eve was a nightmare (when I used to live in the area).
Even level 4 was full for parking… (there was usually 1-2 cars on that level)

It's been quite dead-ish, layout of the stupid carpark just made it worse (Court Street or whatever) and it was impossible to get in and out of without a traffic jam. I say dead-ish because there was nothing better in the area… (I mean Stocklands Prariewood had a recent renovation few years ago that made it much better than Neeta but nothing else better in the area).

It effectively captures most of Fairfield and the surrounding few kms so… I'm not really convinced it's going to die until someone builds a better shopping centre haha

  • +1

Chullora had nothing of note, no consoles, no great Lego, most appliances sold and tech counter is pretty empty of anything good. That said I did manage to get a large Technic set for half price so my trip wasn't 100% wasted

  • +1

    Brisbane stores closing?

  • would jbhifi price beat?

  • Nothing left in Chullora

  • Does anyone know if Fairfield still have any in stock? I tried calling them but no one answered. Thanks!

    • No stock in Fairfield. No Switch games or consoles. Heaps of Xbox games though.

  • They're selling Polaroid Instax Mini 9 for ~$42. There's a few left at Chullora

  • +5

If only i had the power of teleportation…

then realises he should probably be saving people from bushfires instead of looking for deals…

  • why are they closing

    • Globalisation

    • +1

Because most retail stores don’t open 24/7

  • +1

Went to Fairfield at 12. Grabbed a Sony Sound bar that was supposed to be $250… Scanned at $80… lol…

Pretty much nothing of value left.

Some people grabbed older gen Dysons.

I saw 2x 300d? Canons. A few of the pocket printer thingies.

    • Last 300d in Chullora didn't have a battery, charger or strap, was going for 200

Sony soundbar for 80 bucks sounds like a deal

  • +2

Went to Fairfield - no switch games and PS4 games, did have many Xbox games left as of 1-2pm

Chullora - plenty of PS4 and Xbox games, had few copies of Pokemon sword and shield (I suspected some ozbargainers there as they were buying one Pokemon switch game and leaving for others). I already had shield so left the Pokemon games and picked up the Switcher 3 for $40 (as of 3pm). Need to go to tech counter to see the rest of the switch games.

Both locations sold out of console, controllers (for all consoles). Toys looked barren as well

Canon 55-250 stm for $125 at chullora (1 left)

  • +2

Whilst your in Auburn there is a clothing store outside selling white wedding dresses for $10 each. Around 100 on the racks. Other colours are $20 each.

    • +2

how many marriages and divorces are we planning 'ere

  • Didn't manage to get anything but thanks for sharing!

  • -2

Closing down sale yet they had a 1 per persom item limit. Weird.

  • Picked up sword and shield an hour ago @ chullora they had a few more copies left

    • Damn so jelly of you guys that can get swords with half the price!!

      • You could say the price was slashed in half…..

        I'll let myself out

  • +2

OK so I went to Chullora and thought I would share what I got. Not everything is a certified bargain but it may give people some ideas. Don't expect to find this stuff in chullora necessarily but it might help you if you are already at one of them:

    3DS titles:
$1.50: How to train your dragon 2
    $5: Metroid Prime: Federation Force
    $12.50: Paper Mario Sticker Star
$14.50: Kirby Triple Deluxe, Animal Crossing:New Leaf

They had Donkey Kong Country Returns and Luigis Mansion 2 but they couldn't find the cards for them unfortunately (both 14.50, and also another Kirby game for the same price that they did have)

    Xbox One:
$2.50: Edler Scrolls OL: Tamriel Unlimited
$5: Elder Scrolls OL: Morrowind, Raid WW2

Skyrim would have been $12 but they couldn't find the disc for that either

$19.50: PDP wired xbox one controller
    $44.50: Laser HDMI/BT Soundbar

There were lots more titles but I didn't want to blow too much money. Other things I got included kids and adults sleeping bags for $9, cork yoga mats for 3.75, and Homer Simpson socks for 2.50.

    • yeap, a lot of games they couldn't find the disc. I bet they are all gone.

  • Went to Chullora 4pm, still have some ps4 xbox games!

Went to Auburn 5pm, ps4 games almost all gone except the ones not bargain, picked up a few board games like monopoly stranger things, some books (pretty decent value!)

    • Most of the good PS4 games were behind the counter at Auburn when I went in the afternoon. (Eg. Star Wars Fallen Order)

  • Picked up some things today, but upon checking my receipt noe, it's not 50% off the marked price, often times, but 50% off rrp 😕.
