From the site:

We invite you to travel with us for free

We invite visitors to Japan during the special offer period to fly with JAL to a domestic destination within Japan.

During the specified period, we are offering up to 100,000 seats on JAL domestic routes.

Enjoy your journey with the traditional Japanese hospitality offered by JAL.

This campaign provides “round-trip air tickets”, so the number of available passengers is “maximum 50,000”.
There are a limited number of available seats, so in some cases no destinations will be shown.

When you apply, JAL will show you four possible destinations.

Then we tell you which one you'll go to within 3 days of your application.

Embark on a thrilling journey like no other and see what discoveries await at your mystery destination!

Flights depart from / return to Tokyo (Haneda) and Osaka (Itami / Kansai) only.

  • Move to competition?

    • Its hard to say as i'd imagine most people will probably get something out of it. It sort of a hybrid deal/competition.

      • yeah I was umming and ahhing. It's like, if you get a flight to Japan, you'll get an 'upgrade' of an extra flight if you're in the first 50,000. Like a $9 flight say on Jetstar, there might be 50,000 of them so it's sort of a comp to get first in but it's not 'random'.

  • That's the summer period isn't it? I've only ever been to Japan in May/early June. I think it'd rival Australia's heat. Maybe if Hokkaido was one of the destinations…

    • Visited Japan 2 years ago during June. It wasn't as bad as Australia but still pretty hot

      • +2

July/August are the hottest. Bare in mind Chinese/Korean national holidays too, so can get extra busy. Still, Japan’s Japan. One of the greatest places on earth.

    • Must be around the time of the Olympics too?

Not sure it's good timing with this promo and things being busy (with the Olympics)..

We go to Japan each year, around end of spring and that is definitely warm enough, but still cooler in the night.

    • not as hot as a lot of australia right now. can definitely get humid depending on where you go. i daresay sapporo will be one of the destinations. maybe okinawa too, if you're lucky

  • +2

Seems like a cool idea but if you have a JR pass, taking the train all across the country is a lot more fun than being processed through airports.

  • Would be good for tix Tokyo to Okinawa
