I received mine via bank check.

    • Was this recent??

      • Received mine last year via bank cheque

    • +2

And was it was processed in NSW too?i thought that was amusing.

  • +8

This is old, but, can benefit others. Cheers.

    • +9

So old they're still using cheques!

      • Yes, and if you forget to deposit the cheque, they save $50.

  • +1

Its been so long that I can't remember if/when I received mine.

    • +1

Me too, i forgot whether i received mine, : (

      • Same!

        • I only recently cashed mine. Sat in my wallet for a year

  • -2

Tried doing this last year, they wanted a whole bunch of shit like serial numbers, electrical unit number on box etc. 1 of them I couldnt find so i gave up

    • +7

Should've paid someone $20 to do the work for you, you would've made a hassle free $30

    • +6

All the info I needed was on my electricity bill

    • +1

Didn't work for me as I live in an apartment and don't have an NMI :(
Some apartments have their own meters that you can't even change to another retailer… Pretty bullshit system.

      • I also got caught by this after a couple of emails and a 20 minute phone call to someone who knew anything.

        Load of bullocks.

  • I got my cheque in the mail last week from applying just prior to Christmas. Westpac bank cheque.
In my case all details were on the bill (NMI, meter number etc).

  • +4

    What is a cheque?

    • +2

A patterned grid of black and white squares.

    • +6

A payment method designed to make it hard for people to claim.

      • super hard to push cheque into ATM slot

  • I assume all prices have been corrected to reflect many resellers price increase on jan1?

    • You would assume so, but I checked on New Years Day and it was not up to date. Kind of defeats the purpose

  • I’m going back to the site because they put my rate up over 20% !

Rate was 22 from Jan 1 went to 27 .

    • Same here, mine was increased exactly 20% insane, the gov promised lower energy prices lies again

  • Is the $50 once off or yearly?

    • +4

      Once.

    • +2

One off, but a mate of mine claimed it twice when he moved to another house put it under his girlfriend name

      • It is once per address, I think.

        • +1

Yep i got it twice under the same name but different address as I'd moved house

This was pretty useful. I got hooked up with Tango through them, far and away the cheapest (about 19c p/kwh) in my area. $50 on top was a great bonus

    • +1

      Same here.
Was only doing the energy check to get the $50, and ended up switching to Tango!

      • +4

Good sign that their incentive scheme is working….

    • As did I.

The 19c is a fixed rate, with no peak/off peak?

I'm on a split of 29 peak, and 14 off peak(weekends are all off peak).

      • Same here, I am on 22 peak 12 offpeak inc GST with Tango

        • are Tango increasing their rates?

    • I have been with Pacific Hydro, now Tango, for a couple of years. I did some research and compared the rates myself. The government site was not giving me Pacific Hydro/Tango as the cheapest until recently, but it always has been. They have a thing about fixed rates for 12 months as well. I also like monthly billing.

      • I plan to do the same next week. My energy provider just slapped a ridiculous 20% increase, Tango looks good

        • For me it's just fixed 19,no peak or off peak. Also fixed for two years. Signed up end of 2018

  • I can get 20.9 p/kwh no lock in . Only problem is they can change anytime with short written notice . And I can assure you that they are playing with luring in new customers and increasing the rate know a lot couldn't be bothered changing again . So I looked at 1 yr contract and goes to around 23 p/kwh .

I have rates will contact my current provider , they either play ball or bye bye .

    • My rate with Tango now has increased from 18.4c to 21.21c/kWh (I have flat rate, no peak/off-peak) with increase in supply charge as well (from 96c to 108.9c/day); looks like I should start shopping around for better deals if any.

Nice just moved to VIC for first time. Free money 👍

  • Anyone know if you can claim again if you move house?

    • +2

You can claim for multiple properties. I did for primary house and rented house (so long as you have necessary evidence).

But I assume once it’s claimed for that address you can’t claim again for the same address under a different name - but I’m not 100% sure on this.

If the previous owners haven’t claimed you can definitely get it for your new place.

      • It's based on NMI

      • OK Thanks. Will give it a try.

      • I moved after I claimed last time and have just submitted again. Thanks for the info.

      • Do you mean rental property that you own or the property that you rent…

        • That I was renting whilst renovating another house. It’s down to who pays (named on) the electricity bill as to who gets the benefit.

  • 50% of the Navara fools sheep effect…

  • I can’t recall if I’ve claimed this?? Is there a way I can check?

    • +2
      1. Emailing them
      2. Phoning them
      3. Applying for it and getting the rejection email a few days later

How many cheques have you received in the last 2 years that you don't recall?

  • My wife applied for this last year when we lived in our old house (the bill was under her name). Would I be able to apply for this for the current house which has the electricity and gas under my name?

  • Can you not directly go to https://powersavingbonus.energy.vic.gov.au/
    instead of messing around?

What a way to use this to donate full/part of 50 bucks to the bushfire relief as well. Payment may take time but commitment can be instantaneously.

  • Used it previously to get the Click deal but prices went up crazy so just used it again to switch to AGL saved me about $200. Great site.

  • It recommended Alinta Energy & Lumo for me… Currently with Energy Australia.

Any recommendations for either of these?

    • I re-did a comparison today, same data, 100% and it now recommends Elysian Energy & Tango…. Apparently Alinta is now showing $300 more than yesterday's results…. Doesn't seem very credible.

      • I also did one (Heathmont) and elsyian and tango were 1 and 2 - HOWEVER i didnt realise how Elysian do their pricing. They use set price plans for ex amount of power, then a certain price for anything over. WEIRD!

        • It must be an area thing, i'm in Wantirna…

Yeah interesting about Elysian, they charge you a monthly fee which includes XXX (kwh), but apparently if you use less that your allocated amount you get a credit of XX per kwh.

I just ran some rough calculations based on my usage and i think i'd be a about $50/mth better off (compared to my current retailer Energy Australia)

  • Thanks OP. Just submitted me claim.

  • I have got the cheque. They haven't written my name on that. And westpac is saying its invalid. A person name must be there on the cheque.

    • When did you apply? I applied just under 2 weeks ago and only just got a notification that they'd recieved my application.

      • around same time. And NAB honoured the cheque

        • Yeah just got mine today too. My name is on it, so I'll deposit it tomorrow - I'm not expecting any issues.
