Help Needed LG 32MP58HQ & MacBook Connection

Hi guys,

I just got the LG 32MP58HQ 32-Inch Full HD IPS LED Monitor (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/509515) but can't seem to get it to connect with my macbook pro, 2018 with touchbar.

Has anyone purchased this and have a macbook and gotten it to work?

Also does anyone have an LG monitor and has gotten macbook to work as an external display? I've read online there seems to be a bunch of issues, but wondering if perhaps it is my dock or this monitor?

I've tested the following:

MacBook to tv (works fine)
Macbook to another brand monitor (works fine)
Another laptop to monitor (works fine)
PS3 to monitor (works fine)

Macbook to monitor (No work)

My set up is (tested with another HDMI cable too)

Laptop > Satoshi Thunderbolt port > HDMI > Monitor

Thanks,

  • I don't have your monitor. But I do have an LG 34UC99 and can confirm that it works with the new Macbook Pro 15". The display is configured to run as an external monitor and is connected via USB C. A HDMI to USB C cord also works. Might be an issue with the dock?

    • Perhaps you’re correct.

I’ve ordered a new dock, I may get one from officeworks to try another brand in the meantime too.

The issue is I’ve tested it against TVs/Other monitors using the other dock and there wasn’t an issue.

Just maybe something crazy about how the dock interacts with this specific monitor.

  • Sorry I do not have a macbook or experience with them, but Do you have to press a "function" button to switch internal screen to external like on windows laptops?

    • Yeah, I’ve definitely tried the refresh/cast screen buttons.

There is a detect displays button that you can toggle and I just can’t seem to find!

      Thanks tho :D

  • Update for anyone who ever encounters the same issue: I used a new dock and used USB-C to VGA and it worked.
