Today I was looking at both sunglasses and prescription glasses and came across a number of Oakley's on sale. I grabbed a paid of Holbrook metals which is the cheapest I have seen them. Please note these are non-polarized but I intended on putting subscription lenses in them.

    Sounds interesting!

    • Keep in mind it isn't cheap. Maui Jim's prescriptions are the way to go if cost is no issue. OPSM quoted me today $414 for Oakley's polarized lens, anti reflective coating and tinting. My GAP payment ends up being $297. I do need to check with other Oakley RX providersfor a better price. OPSM is known for being dearer than most of its competitors

      • Hmm. I got mine from bupa. Out of pocket was 129 with all the above requirements. Using their lens and keeping the Oakley lens.

      • My scripted Maui Jim's are awesome, but even at trade price they're bloody expensive….

        But awesome

    • is there a free trial period?

  • sliver polarised so you can squint without damage

  • How do you go about putting prescription lenses in them? Take them separately to an optometrist?

Yes. Most of the Oakley's range can get prescriptions https://www.oakley.com/en-au/category/men/prescription

      • Dumb question but what about Gucci?

      • To be honest, just get a set of normal prescription polarised lenses put in, they're usually covered by health insurance, and if you have a script odds are it's changing often enough that OEM lenses aren't cost effective

        • Because Oakley's do their own lenses I don't think you can get generic lenses put into their frames. Which is a shame as their lenses aren't anything special. Unlike Maui Jim which make fantastic but very expensive lenses. Frames and lenses should be much cheaper but Luxottica market dominance ensures they unnessarially inflate prices.

I do agree getting non-oem lenses is a far better and cheaper option for most people. However not everyone's eyes continue to worsen. My script has been virtually identical for 25 years.

          • @4agte: you definitely don't have to get oakley's lenses when you get rx lenses made, since oakley don't even provide that service when you buy from their website.

OPSM, for example, will give you the option of their [slightly cheaper] lenses. and depending on your prescription, sometimes you can't even get oakley lenses because they only do them for a certain prescription range.

    • My local NIB opto has all the Oakley's and will out prescription in there

"Devoted to making the best sunglasses on the planet by letting invention lead the way. With a passion to reinvent from scratch, Oakley sunglasses defy convention and set the standard for design, performance, and protection by wrapping innovation in art."

Nice marketing blurb but completely untrue….

  • Just a heads up that the glasses ship from China. It’s quick shipping, but caught me out when I was trying to get them very quickly before heading overseas in December.

  • Those slivers look ok @ $122 shame out of stock. 8.4% online / 10% in store @ cashrewards too!

I actually prefer their PRIZM lenses to polarised lenses.

  • These polarised Holbrook Mix are also 50% off but don't seem to show up when you're browsing the sale items. https://www.sunglasshut.com/au/oakley/oo9384-888392294883
