Johnnie Walker Game of Thrones White Walker $39.99 (Was $69.99) @ Nicks

550

Prepare yourselves people, the one the only Johnnie Walker White Walker is now on clearance. Previously described as a cross between cheap whisky and methanol this is actually not a bad drop, but only if you place it in the freezer (as they recommend) so that some of the methanol is taken away and the "power from the north" is released.

Delivery is $10 but free if you spend $200 or you can pick up from their store (VIC).

So, basically, this is as bad as the last season then.

    • +12

Yeah, season 8 would be responsible for that price drop.

      I’ll never kneel!

    • Ha!! Fair comment…..

Intriguing start that follows through but a bitter and hollow aftertaste at the end.

    She's my queen. I don't want this.

      SHAME!

  • $20 delivery fee to Sydney NSW.. err.. doesn't make it very cheap then.

    • You can add multiple bottles to your cart and it takes the postage down to $15.

    • From the Nicks website.

      Important Information Regarding Deliveries
      1. If applicable, delivery fees and charges will be added to your order. WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY FOR MOST OF AUSTRALIA FOR ANY ORDER MORE THAN A$200 IN VALUE.

So just buy 5 bottles and something cheap for free delivery….😁

      • +1

Understand but I'm only buying to collect.. Not a big drinker. lol

        • Probably a good idea for this one…But if you are only getting one bottle I think it can be had around $50 these days from a few outlets.

  • Methanol???

Does OP mean menthol or something?

You can't actually taste methanol, and ingesting a small amount could kill you.

    • +9

      It’s a joke son.

      • +7

Correct…..An attempt at humour that was clearly ineffectual for some…

    • Settle down

    • +5

      Have a day off Trigger.

      • Don't need a day off, need some cheap whiskey

    • Where do you get this from!?
      Have you even tasted methanol!?

You can't taste methanol the same way you can't taste ethanol. As in - everyone who has actually tasted would not say its tasteless.
And small amount will not kill you. You first start going blind, thats a good indication to stop drinking. And if you mix 50/50 or more with ethanol you'll be fine.

Bran knew this was terrible before it was even released.

When its just you and a thousand men at a freezing wall…. this is a great drop

    • No….no its not….But in that case, any port in a storm…. :)

  • I know this whisky is a meme at this point (or even from the beginning), but is there an actual/serious comparison for what this whisky is like?

    • +1

Amongst the whisky community this is mostly rubbished. There are whiskies from Cardhu and Clynelish which are very north in Scotland so trying to play on the "frozen north". Now I have had two bottles and, from the freezer on a hot night, its actually not bad. Quite mellow in flavour with a "crisp" flavour (I.e. grain heavy, bourbon cask influences).

For me, its a good drop for $39 to leave in the freezer as something different for a hot night….

      • In other words "when I chill it to the point that it can freeze my saliva, it tastes crisp because I can't taste anything."

        Good job.

slightly worse than the Red label…

It is so bad that the only way to drink it is to put it in the freezer so you can't taste it anymore.

      • I have had store brand whiskey from a plastic bottle in the US that was better than red label. Think it cost me $8.

A dignified whisky with firm, rich and worldly flavours that creates strong initial impressions. The mid drink profile grows increasingly big but has a good sense of balance between hot and peaty qualities. Unfortunately the aftertaste grows increasingly nutty and ultimately leaves the drinker on a sour note. One is left thinking "Why on earth did I even bother drinking this shit?" and sharing this appalling experience with their social circle. Would not recommend.

I've bought this at duty free. Not worth it.

    • Probably paid more!! 😁

      • Definitely! At this price can try it but like you said very interesting minty taste.

  • +1

Dam unless they got it for a better deal than we did I can confirm this is far below cost price

  • Thx op I enjoyed this very much on new years eve… Bought a couple :)

  • Tempted just to see how bad it is…but can't find any other bargain on the site at the moment to bring it up to $200! I do love the Connemara whisky.. maybe one of the special editions! Anyone tried?

Which actual whiskey drinker would drink this? Even top shelf Johnnie Walker is pretty average. I guess they were marketing to the gullible Game of Throne audience. If you're going to watch the most popular TV show, why wouldn't you also drink the most popular whiskey (well I think it would be).

  • +2

Johnnie Walker products, especially towards the lower end are perfect when your tipsy guests ask for a whiskey & coke and you don't want to waste your Glenfiddich / Glenlivet reserves. Otherwise, I pass thanks.

  • I am going to call this Whisky the "Scomo" of the whisky world. Everyone seems to be bagging it saying its complete garbage, but LOTS of quiet people are buying it…. :)

    • +7

Well, I guess you're correct in that they were quiet when they bought it, but now they've actually had a taste they're all saying it's sh*t.

  • Back in stock guys, went and collected my 3x bottles this morning and there were heaps there.

  • JW Red for 40 no thanks.

    • Move along then…
