Oh my lord this is dreadful.

Don't get a laptop with an AMD A4 chip or 15.6" 1366*768 screen.

    • Could you please explain why? I am looking to get this one, hence the qn.

the cpu is a very low end dual core

you might be ok if you don't multitask or open too many browser tabs

        • Thanks for the heads up! Appreciate it.

          • @elusivesid: For $488 at Harvey Norman not long ago you could get an i3 10th gen. Not this piece of crap. It also had a FHD screen.

Its the low end processor and low end pixel display with big pixels. But it's only $400. I got a lenovo e495 and e595 deal last year and people poo-hooed the specs on that. They are great machines for under $800. This machine is half that so it's going to be slower and have bigger pixels. But it has a full keyboard SSD and 8GB of ram, so for email, web, word and excel it should do the job if you are on a budget.

Please don't convince people to buy this. There's not much life left in this at all and hence why they are wanting to move stock asap.

You can get an i3 FHD laptop under $500 regularly. It would suit the purpose a lot better.

          • @pennypincher98: Is there another laptop around this price you would recommend?

i saw this one on special https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/acer-spin-1-116-inches-2-in-1…

            • @Blakejjj: At this time, probably not. There's an i3 10th Gen/FHD posted for $598 (can use gift cards to get it lower, or try negotiate).

My advice is not to get either. If you can deal with a refurb, you'll get a lot better value. If you can wait until the next TGG/Bing Lee eBay deal, that would be ideal.

          • @pennypincher98: But that’s 11” with Intel celeron… might be worse than this deal

          • @pennypincher98: Hey,

Just saw this one would it be any good for basic windows office use and web browsing
            https://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-vivobook-e203-11-6-inch…

            • @Blakejjj: I mean, that's actually an alright budget laptop. Pentium Silver isn't going to break speed records, 4GB of ram is probably all you'll need with a processor like that and the 1366*768 is likely more forgivable on a screen 4 inches smaller. A 128gb eMMC is an interesting pick indeed, it's relatively small, cheap storage. Not quite an SSD, but at this price point 128gb is good.

I'd say it would be alright, but go in store and examine the screen first.
Great that it includes a USB-C port and weighing under a kg is nice too.

              • @pennypincher98: Thanks for your help!

                • @Blakejjj: Just caught me before I had time to edit: it's a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port not a USB-C port. Not sure if that means anything to you or not, but just have to point that out.

                  No worries!

              • @pennypincher98: sent you a direct message

    • That explains why the website is slow
