HP X360 12" Chromebook (2019 Version, 8GB RAM 64GB eMMC) $599 + Bonus $100 Gift Card @ JB Hi Fi

60

Officeworks recently dropped the price of this new Chromebook (introduced late 2019) to $599 while JB HiFi was concurrently doing a $100 gift card deal, so it seems that JB matched the price but kept the bonus gift card too.

I picked one of these up because of the decent keyboard, good 3:2 display, metal build, USB C charging ports on both sides and better spec compared to some of the other cheaper Chromebooks. So far I am happy, though the trackpad is a bit jumpy. I had a look at the 14" version in the store that is also on sale, but the display is noticeably worse (poor colour saturation).

  • Any x2 deal?

Is the X2 deal at umart better value for $499?
    Looks like it is.

    • yep better screen specs though at the cost of a full size usb port and card reader

      • X2 has a card reader. Better processor maybe?

        • x2 has a micro sd card slot for expansion so I guess you could say thats a card reader. This one sounds like its full size. Honestly I don't think processor and 8gb ram are going to make any difference to most people - you're limited by the OS. Storage, display, IO are whats important in this space.

  • Google is having a laugh with these Chromebooks. They are always underspeced for the price. 64GB of slow cheap eMMC and a Pentium for $599. Just having a same look at the same seller - you can get an Acer Aspire 3 with 128GB of SSD and an i3-10110U for the same price.

Wouldn't it be better to compare HP with HP from the same seller - In this case it's $200 more expensive for same processor and comparable specs, 8GB of RAM to make up for the less storage (which I hardly use on a Chromebook) - so maybe Microsoft is laughing: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-pavilion-x360-11-ap000…

That Acer has no touchscreen. Not convertible. Half the RAM. No USB-C.
It's better in some ways, but it's just different. Many Chromebooks forgo the best storage or CPU for other features.

  • Now $479 + $100 gift card.
