    Gosh….Now it’s 30% off,…..

    • +3

Are you complaining? Last time I checked 30% off was better than 20%.

    • +3

Yeah there were rumours of this last year. Hopefully this is the new normal. 4K especially shouldn’t be so expensive (and DVD should stop being sold!)

      • +7

Terrible idea, some titles are still exclusive to DVD.

        • -8

          Not worth buying then

        • +2

that doesn't mean you can't watch something. Release it on BR!

      • -5

DVD is great for mobile viewing, like for truckies on long haul drives.

      • +1

(and DVD should stop being sold!)

Some things are only available on DVD, plus there'd be not much point for stuff produced in SD to be released on Blu-ray if it can't be remastered from a high resolution source like 35mm film. The golden age of The Simpsons (up to season 9) is a good example, as are many other older animations. There's also a fair few British comedies I watch that are also only available on DVD. I'm also not too keen on some of the 'remasters' of some shows, especially ones that were originally produced with 4:3 aspect ratio that get converted to 16:9. Everything else modern though, 1080p and 4K all the way.

One aspect to streaming I dislike is content and licensing deals change over time. The content you're used to seeing could vanish the next day. Sometimes 'controversial episodes' get pulled out too, as Disney did with The Simpsons episode that had a character voiced by Michael Jackson.

      • Our car has a DVD player in the roof and the kids use it all the time. We have tried using downloaded movies and out of several hundred, only 1 works from USB or SD card. So DVD's are still the prefered way of getting movies in our house. Plus our Panasonic Blu-ray player upscales them on to our Viera Plasma so well I can't tell the difference between them and a Blu-ray…

Discounts needed for sales. Why buy when you can Netflix?

      • +10

Half the country still has gid awful internet. plus Netflix doesn't really have that great of a selection these days.

        • +1

          kinda need them all
          got prime and Disney
          share netflix, stan

      • +8

True but if you're purist, you won't enjoy your fave movie on netflix due to compression and horrible hdr/ dolby vision subtitles (if you do use subtitles though).

        • +1

This is true but purist are the minority, unfortunately majority of people are just happy with Netflix

need a sale on switch accessories

  • +1

I wonder if we'll get the higher gift cards with Telstra plans too

    • been waiting for this also

  • I can't see the $399 Nintendo Switches… all seem to be $449. I've been waiting for a post boxing day sale.

    • -5

i guess they are talking about the switch lite.

      • +2

Lol the Lite retails for $329, why would it go on sale for $399?

    • +4

      Starts tomorrow.

      • Ah cheers, I'll have another look then. Couldn't see it in the brochures either. But I'll double check.

Anyone know if the free game (or two) that were coming with all Switch's) is still a thing?

        • looks like all the switches coming with Mario Kart 8 were black friday / christmas deals. EB games sells a $500 switch with one of the new pokemon games, $500 is a bit of a rort though

  • +2

I hope that Amazon matches the 30% off on Blu-ray etc.

Quite a few of the DVD / Blu-ray orders that have I placed with JB have arrived damaged (broken cases) due to the lack of any protective packaging used when shipping it.

    • They will, they always do.

      • They'll match 20%, never seen them match 30%.

        • It's only happened once before, so not much to base it on yet.

  • Hrm I'll wait for a Telstra gift card deal to move onto a plan for a new switch.

    • JB has a standing $400 gift card option. Just not as good as their $500 one :(

Dawn, I bought bluray box set last week for full price. Does anyone know if I can return it for difference if it hasn't been opened and its still got the shrink wrap on?

Edit: doh. The missus took the shrink wrap off but hasn't watched them yet.

    • @enjunuet You don’t need to return it. The managers in JB are nice enough to refund the price drops. Just go back to the store and tell them that the price dropped within a week (take your original receipt and the product though). They will refund the difference as a gift card. At least they did that to me for a different product.

      • Thanks for the tip!

  • JB has a 14 day price guarantee. If you find a cheaper local price for any item within 14 days you can take your receipt in and get the difference refunded back to you.

    • Thanks for letting me know. I'll pop in tomorrow.

  • Online sale has started now. Unlike previous 20% sales, it appears the buy x for $x are not registering as a combo with associated discount, and instead items are discounted and sold individually.

I just bought about 8x 4k movies (listed at 20-30 bucks) for about $110, so about $15 each. Didn't seem to be stacking the '2 for $40' deal, but also seemed to be more than 30% off each individual price.

      • I had to delete one of the items in my cart and then it recalculated correctly - bit odd, but discount is applied on the bundles.

  • Hmm, the 3 for $40 on Blu makes it $28 for 3, that's pretty good.

  • Excludes 50% Off Anime

Damn, was hoping for a 80% off sale….

  • How long will the Switch consoles be this price for? Really hanging out to see if they announce an Animal Crossing Switch Console, but this seems like a pretty good price considering everyone on Gumtree seems to want more than this for their old worn out Switch consoles.

    • Prob ends this Wed but EB Games have same price atm too & u get 3% off their ebay store price

  • media sale is over.

    switch still on sale though.
