    For reference, i have the 75" version for a few months, here is my post purchase review;

    • Android app freezes and is clunky, resulting in constant 'reboots'
    • i had the app completely brick itself resulting in having to a Hard Reset of the unit - again os is very clunky
    • remote control is very flimsy and is not waterproof, cost of replacement is $80 genuine OEM
    • some bright spots bottom left when screen is dark
    • tv stand is very sturdy, however require a long entertainment unit to have it stand on

overall, great TV 2019 model, very high picture quality

    • Thanks for the review.

Only thing to mention about this is the 85" is Direct LED backlight lit rather than the Edge LED lit 75". This should provide more uniform lighting across the panel removing these kinds of problems "some bright spots bottom left when screen is dark"

      • Oh, also:
        - The 85" is a VA panel rather than an IPS panel, meaning it likely looks much better in a dark room, but has worse viewing angles.

      • Are you sure the direct led backlight is on KD85X8500G?? I thought it's on KD85X9500G and that's what differenciates it from 8500

        • Yes, the difference is the KD85X9500G has FALD Direct LED backlight.
The 85" version of the x8500g is much more similar to the x9500g than the smaller panels.

  • It's sad to see such a good brand name struggling to keep up these days.
I used to sell TV's when I was younger… Sony and Panasonic were king!

I remember Sony TV's being the best you could get. Now they are a cheaper and lesser quality alternative to LG and Samsung.
LG in particular used to be the cheap and nasty brand once frowned upon, and now has some of the best screens you can buy.

Never ceases to amaze me how big brands can become so complacent in quality control and R&D so quickly.

  • "remote control … is not waterproof"

    What remote control is?

In all the reviews of electronic consumer equipment I have seen over the years, I have never seen the IP rating of the supplied remote control ever mentioned, never mind been of importance…

    • I suspect there is an interesting story here. Involving the remote… and some water…

  • Was torn between this and the LG 86" variant, ended up getting the LG during boxing day sale for $2500
