    laptop manufacturers have realized that putting cheaper displays in doesn't hurt their sales in sub $1000 laptops and often times consumers buy laptops without even seeing them in action first. They get told by the marketing department that it's super lightweight and has good battery life, and that's really all the average person cares about.

    these types of laptops are basically servicing the hardware noobs target market so they don't need to put in nice displays, they can increase profit margins by using the cheap stuff.
