  • Who gonna pay the postage for sending the old one & how much for new one?

  • We will pay for shipping back to us if that is how it is determined best to do it. Otherwise we will give you an avenue of someone to give to or how to dispose of (environmentlaly friendly).

    • Open 824RL and Open 824RW - do they have additional 8 voip profiles? (I have billion 6404 and it supports 8 additional profiles). Also is this offer available for open824RL (no wireless model) ?. Thanks.

      • The RL is already reduced to $49.95 at the moment ($50 off), with no trade in available at the moment.

I will let you know the exact amount it can support, but I know Minimum of 2 per port (2 voip ports on this device).

      • 8 Additional VOIP Profiles can be added (User defined it is called in the device).

        • Great, just like billion. Thanks for the info.

  • When does this expire offer? Also I have the same question as mawinmawin - does it support multiple voip profiles(with different providers)? If yes, then how many?

    Thanks for the great offer.

    • It will probably be next week, I'll update when I know. But might be extended depending on popularity.

It definately allows multiple VOIP Profiles, for starters there is 1 on each VOIP Port, and I use an extra myself.

I will confirm and return :D

    • 8 Additional VOIP Profiles can be added (User defined it is called in the device).

  • Is there a 'rebadged model' equal to the 7401VGPM?

Is there any restrictions on what models you can trade in?

What is the difference between these and the real Billions? Is warranty handled by Billion?

    • billion is two years warranty, open's is one year. open's firmware i think is a bit more limited - but from what i have read on the whirlpool forums with a lot of the devices u can load the belkin firmware on the open device.

      • I think you mean the Billion Firmware on the device. This can be done, but will void the warranty if something goes wrong.
Correct about the warranty difference. There is no real limitation on firmware differences I am aware of.

    • No Rebadge of the 7401 available.

No restrictions on the trade in.

Essentially the firmwares are the same. Warranty Handled by OPEN.

  • I assume you have to trade in an ADSL modem and not a dialup modem? :)

    • As I'm currently thinking of getting ADSL instead of the old crusty dialup at home.

      • that is good question :-). I am also sick of telstra cable and moving to ADSL. May be they will accept as they ready to buy non-working modems.

      • Tell you what, we'll take the dialup modem too..

        :D

        • CRAP! i just chucked my dailup modem a few weeks ago ><

          it was 56k modem LOL!

  • What is the difference between these and the real Billions? Features? Security?

    • They're identical.

Billion had too many and sold them to Open so they could rebadge them and sell them as my own.

Looks a good deal if they'll take my dial up :)

  • Do you get a free 306W Wireless Adapter as well?

    • Sure do.

We actually don't sell them without them :)

  • I would be very interested in this if you will accept a dial up modem and will you honor it for the 3 port version as the 4 port will be just a waste for me (only using WIFI). Or would you honor your previous deal again for the 3 port: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/4652

And what seems to be the advantage of changing the FW to Billion? Everyone on WP seems to be doing it. I just want something that has WIFI and VOIP that works!

    • Hi,

As said in the Private Message. 3 Port now added to the deal!

  • also can you trade >1 modem?

    • Yes you can, but only 1 modem per Item. I.E trade 2 modems when you buy 2 Wireless modems.

      Cheers

  • Do we send in our old modem first? Or you guys will arrange to have it picked up/sent at a later date?

    • We will inform you when after you recive your modem exactly what to do. (essentially at a later date).

      Cheers

  • When will this offer be available and how much for the new modem? Looking at buying one of these soon. Also, will there be a free USB Wireless Adaptor included that seems to be going with other deals at the moment?

    • It is already available. Reduce 30$ from the price on their website of your chosen product. Read above for kogi's same question for USB wireless adaptor

  • If you don't want to trade anything in, and you don't want the USB adapter.

This place is the same price after shipping for the 4-port.

  • Do not buy from them! I bought an Open824RLW from them last week and I
    have endless problems with it.

    1. I have set the SSID to 'Tan' with wpa2 security but after leaving it on for a few days it was automatically changed to 'Venus' with no security, upon attempts to connect to 'Venus' it will disappear completely. When connected with cable checked the SSID was still set to 'Tan'. After restart SSID changed back to 'Tan'.

    2. Very frequently even though the ppp light is on and the router is connected to Internet my access to Internet seems to be stopped for a certain period (a few minutes) and after that it works again. Not a problem with my PC because there is no such problem when I am using other router even right now.

    3. If the router is connected to PPP this time and I restart it, it will not be able to establish ppp connection although the adsl light is steady. If I restart it again it will connect ok. Then if I restart it again it will not connect again.

    4. Sometimes after the ppp is connected for a period of time it automatically gets disconnected. Not line problem as I have no problem with other modem for months, and even right now.

    5. Left it overnight with bittorrrents running the next morning upnp not working.

    6. With bittorrents running overnight often the router restart and froze during the night. Not one night has bitttorrents able to download normally, no problem with other routers.

    • As has been discussed offline.

This can be returned and tested. If found faulty, then we will refund (even though we will usually only replace).

Anyone can read reviews on Whirlpool or many other places and see this is not a common issue.

    • Hi. As far as I can see it is a modem issue rather than an issue with Broadband Gear, the merchant? So why are you posting here (and in the forums) saying "do not buy from Broadband Gear"?

Looks like you might have a faulty modem, and you should contact Broadband Gear for support. If they can't provide you a fix — then come back here to tell us about it! :)

  • You probably should watch what you say about businesses online because you could get sued for defamation. If they are clearly ripping you off, so be it, but broadbandgear have responded promptly and its clear you have a faulty unit and they are not necessarily at fault.

  • I will send the unit back to them and report here if their technician just spend 1 minute testing it and says everything is working fine and demands me to pay the labour. As those problems will only appear after some days of using them. BTW if the item is found to be faulty they should pay for the postage instead of buyer, because they sold me a faulty unit, but they refuse. Can I lodged a complaint with consumer affairs about this whole things?

    • This might help - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/596… .

Also, for the next time might not be a bad idea to keep a copy of the modem logs as evidence(if anything to support your argument is in the logs).

    • A statemet to that.

Do you ask Target for Petrol money when you take something back?

The testing will be done on the problems you report. So if you report after 1 day on Bit torrent, It will be tested that way etc.

  • I am closing this thread now. If anyone has any issue with the merchant/provider, please contact them FIRST and try to resolve them offline, instead of hosting a bash party online.
