Status Match Promotion FAQ's:

  1. I am a status member with a frequent flyer program outside of Australia. Will Velocity Frequent Flyer match my status?

Yes, subject to all other requirements being met, Velocity Frequent Flyer will match the status of a frequent flyer program located anywhere in the world, provided that they are an airline and have levels of status.

  1. I am already a Silver member with Velocity, but I have the equivalent of Platinum status with another airline. Can I also take advantage of the Status Match promotion?

Yes, subject to all other requirements being met, Velocity will match the status of your other frequent flyer program, even though you already have status with Velocity.

  1. Can I apply for a status match through the Virgin Australia lounge?

Yes, you are able to apply for a status match at the Virgin Australia lounge during this promotion. Ensure that you have your current Velocity card and a valid card from another frequent flyer program and ask one of our friendly lounge attendants.

  1. I’ve forgotten to add my Velocity membership number into the email I sent in. Should I send another email?

No, Velocity will be in contact to request your Velocity number. Emailing us a second time may cause a delay in the processing of your status match application.

  1. The name listed in my Velocity account is not the same as my name in my other frequent flyer program membership. What information do I need to supply to allow me to status match?

Include a brief description in your email as to why your names do not match. Velocity will be in touch if we require further information (e.g. a copy of a marriage certificate) before granting a status match.

  1. I am a status member of one of your alliance partners, can I take advantage of the Status Match promotion?

If you are a member of Air New Zealand Airpoints, Delta Skymiles, Etihad Guest, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer or Virgin Atlantic High Flyer you are unfortunately ineligible to request a status match. If you are a member of another frequent flyer program, you are able to request a status match, subject to all other requirements being met.

Bugger u stole my deal ha ha ha

Mine was brief and had the info links

  • Will they match Qantas Club membership?

    • Nope. This is a status match promotion.

  • Wow that's awesome!

  • brilliant - thanks.

    • You are welcome! And, thanks for the + vote.

I wouldn't fly with Virgin, nothing but bad experiences

    • +2

my experience is the opposite. terrible punctuality and service on qantas, great experiences on virgin

      try flying tiger/jetstar and report back… ;)

    • +3

But a Status upgrade on Velocity would still be useful if you fly Singaore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Delta, Etihad or Virgin Atlantic too.

      • That's because you would get these benefits when flying with Virgin (as they are Virgin's interline and code sharing partners).

This is pretty awesome news, even though it's very unlikely I'll be able to maintain my status with them once the 12 months promotion period is up. Is QFF Platinum equivalent to Velocity Platinum?

    • Yes. That's what a status match means :)
If you are unable to maintain Platinum after 12 months, you will just drop to the next level (a gold).

      • Yes. That's what a status match means :)

LOL, just thought I'd check since terms like "Gold" and "Platinum" are not necessarily equivalent when comparing frequent flyer programmes. QFF Platinum is equivalent to SIA's Krisflyer Gold, for instance.

oops, my bad, I didn't realize that FF programs are inconsistent around the world. But yes, if you are a QFF Platinum, you will be matched to a DJ Platinum.

        • +1

Yup. I matched yesterday. Got my temporary Velocity Platinum card in the Wallet. Go say hi to the guys in the lounge, they're more than happy to match you (Silver QF = Silver Velocity, Gold QF = Gold Velocity and Platinum QF = Platinum Velocity. Any Chairmans Lounge QF members are matched to Velocity Platinum, as they do not have any 'private' level above Platinum like QF do.

The benefits of each Status can be viewed here. http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/content/Status/Benefitsat-…

  • Members from frequent flyer programs of our our following alliance partnerships frequent flyer programs are ineligible to apply: Air New Zealand, Delta, Etihad Airways, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

    Thanks, OP

  • So for someone with Bronze QFF membership, there's not much point doing this right? just sign up for a new Velocity membership account (for free), which is equivalent to a Bronze QFF?

    • no point if you're bronze

  • Sorry, didn't mean to post to this thread, please delete.

  • Nice for anyone with high statuses…essentially gives you free lounge access etc etc for a year. Not me, sadly.

  • Thanks for the post. I'm currently QFF Platinum until Feb 2013 (requalified again) and so I hope that I'll get DJ Platinum for just as long but it seems that it will be more just for 12 months.

Personally this will only be useful for when/if I need to fly Singapore airlines and maybe the odd airline I need to catch due to lack of OneWorld options. Eg. I had to fly Air Canada last year and really would have appreciated some lounge options in Canada.

  • Nice one, will try for Platinum based on my BMI Diamond Club Gold status.

    • Good luck with that, but I think they will match you to gold.

If it works I will try for Gold based on Diamond Club silver.

  • Anyone know how long this promotion will go for?
since the membership is for 12 months so if i apply in October this year, it'd go back a status October 2012?

    • I don't think this promotion will last until October. (Note: they haven't specified an end date for the promotion yet).
But to answer your question, yes your review period will be for 1 year from the date that you were awarded the status. If you are unable to maintain your current status, then you just drop down one level.

  • Awesome. Missed out last time, just applied this time :)

    Many thanks OP.

    • domcc1, you are most welcome. Thanks for the vote, not!

Logged into my Velocity account and noticed that I've been status matched to Platinum, valid to 30 August 2012. No email or membership package just yet (they'll come later I'm sure), but it looks like they're processing online applications now.

Thanks once again Tiger (OP, not the airline!); very happy here. :)

  • Sweet, got an email saying my Gold status has been matched :)
    Thanks OP
