Could burn some 60s disco vids with that DVD

    Good for a Plex server?

    • +1

Just check power consumption. Remember a PLEX server is an always on device.

    • +2

Depends how much onboard storage you want. Only 2 SATA ports.

  • +10

    Includes Netscape navigator 1.0?

  • +5

Copping flak but plenty of people who have a 10 year old computer that has just carked it could be onto this

    • +3

Doubt it because the tech fast budget PC deal kills this.

      • +3

        Great point, especially considering:
Similar price but that tech-fast deal had 8GB RAM + 4 Core Ryzen 3000 series processor, vs this 2 core 4GB

        • +1

Also vega 8 instead of vega 3.

      • +1

The people who will be buying this PC won't be able to tell the difference

        • +1

SSD drive vs mechanical, definitely everyone notices the difference e.g. booting

      • +1

Not everyone's willing to deal with Techfast. You can walk into JB and have it in your hand same day if in stock.

  • +1

i could chat on yahoo excite or mIRC

    • +3

      no love for ICQ?

      • Neh, msn was the one.

  • +2

Wow never expected to see a Ryzen 3 PRO 2100GE in a PC for sale. I wonder how many they sold at $669?

  • +4

May or may not be a 1TB or maybe a 2TB hard drive, according to description. Shows the lack of interest by the JB staff in this PC.

  • +2

Actually worked with this PC before for a customer. Just don't, please, don't even put your grandma through this. The basic setup of the machine took a millenia due to not being able to do much else while it was running windows updates, and it was for the most part just slow and barely responsive. Plus the IO is only enough for a Keyboard and Mouse really.

    • Did you try swapping the HDD for an SSD? Can't imagine it's that bad with an SSD.

      • There isn't really anything wrong with it other than the lack of SSD.

The 2100GE is on the same level as an i5-2550k, which despite being released in 2011 is still a decent chip for modern systems.

        • Dual core processor, 4gb ram, vega 3 graphics.

The 2100GE is on the same level as an i5-2550k

If you think this processor is the same as an i5-2550k, would you care to swap a 3900x for a 3600x? What's the point of having more cores?

          • @iseeyou1312: It's basically the equivalent of a mid-level PC from 2012, don't see anything wrong with that for a a granny PC. You won't be able to play any games released in the last decade, but it will run stuff like Civ 5, or solitaire.

The 2550k doesn't have hyperthreading, the 2100GE does, so they both have 4 logical cores. The 2550k is still better than the 2100GE, but it's close.

            • @Jolakot: Threads are not the same thing as cores. Hyper threading increases the efficiency of the cores, but ultimately the performance is not even close.

2550k is 68% better for quad or octa core OC'd benchmarks, which is about what you'd expect. https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-2550K-vs…

I have no idea why you think they're interchangeable, but now you know they're not.

Missing floppy (hehe) disk drive means no deal!

  • Will this let me browse ozbargain in 4k?

  • +1

    sure it's vega8 , not vega3 ?

  • Does anyone have one of these and can measure the dimensions for me? Wondering whether it will fit inside my HTPC nook…

edit: HP website claims Dimensions are 13.6 x 25.8 x 31 cm, which is only slightly bigger than Dell SFF.

According to HP website, it does have HDMI 2.0 (JB says HDMI 1.4)

    • Why are you even thinking of buying this?

      • Need a new HTPC for 4K/HEVC.

        • This makes a lot more sense:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/512876

          • +1

@iseeyou1312: I agree that the techfast one has better specs but it's an ATX system rather than SFF.
Additionally, this HP has Wifi, legit Windows and a DVD reader.

            • @coxymla: It's a micro ATX motherboard that comes in a SFF case.

Wifi adapters are $10, legit OEM windows is a waste of money, DVD readers are pointless in 2020.

This "deal" also has a dual core processor, hard drive, vega 3, 4gb ram and god only knows what psu and motherboard they've stuck in it.

              • +1

@iseeyou1312: When the PSU dies you just replace the whole machine.. that's HPs marketing magic

  • +1

4gb ram? My phone has more.. maybe enough to land windoze

  • Both specs and details page says Vega 8 not Vega 3.

    • +1

      Yes, because JB/HP haven't got a (profanity) clue. The AMD Ryzen™ 3 PRO 2100GE has a Vega 3 processor.

  • +1

    HP?? Yeah nahhh
HP has the stupidest hardware issues.

What do you do with 4GB nowadays? I bet it is not even DDR4.
Branded computers use specific power supply, meaning it could cost you anywhere close to $100 and above if it burns.
HDD as main storage? No sh1t.
    Windows Home, really?!

To have a decent performance without spending too much you are gonna need to upgrade to at least 8GB, 256GB SSD as main disk, Windows 10 Pro.
Even with Linux this desktop without upgrades will have a sh1t performance.

    • why would you upgrade to Windows 10 Pro? There's nothing wrong with the home edition and the upgrade would be heaps unless you get a dodgy key.
It is DDR4 and yeah agreed 4GB is useless today.

      • Well, I am a Linux user anyways so the first thing I always do when buying computer/laptop is to delete it and install Linux but, Windows Home has limitation such as it restrict how many software can be opened together, etc.
It doesn't have Computer Management for example, and so on. It is a real pain in the butt.

Home users won't notice a thing, for advanced users Windows Home is a kick in the balls.

        • +1

What are you on about? Software limitations? No computer management? That's simply not true.

Only real notable difference is Home misses Bitlocker, group policy, active directory and azure active directory support.

          • @Clear: No remote desktop connection permitted to home.

            • @syousef: Yes that too. A few other misc features as well but none of those things this Linux expert is on about.

              • @Clear: Perhaps that's what he means by "Computer Management". I use RDP all the time and it is a complete pain in the rear for remote management of the machines that it isn't available in home.

Poledit, Bitlocker, RDP are all quite useful to any advanced home user.

                • @syousef: Screenconnect is my friend for remote management. Perhaps with the comment about software he is thinking of S Mode?

  • Went to have a look at one in-store today.
I didn't get them to scan one but it does not appear to be marked down on the floor.
The unit itself is OK, case plastic feels cheaply made. PSU looks replaceable.
PCIe slots are full height which is nice for a SFF machine. I'm fairly sure you would need a short-length card though, but those are fairly easy to find compared to half-height.

I bought myself one today, from JB Hi-Fi Pacific Fair-for $369 for very light gaming such as playing games purchased on GOG and web browsing, it’s perfect for my needs.

Mine has a Seagate HDD & LG ODD.

    • Mind running CPU-Z and GPU-Z? It's very hard to find definitive specs on these machines.

    • Thanks. Surprisingly decent hard disk in these at least!

Been playing a few older games on this HP-got about 40 FPS in F1 2014 on medium settings, in a newer game like AOE 1 DE, about 23 FPS.

  • +1

Also played Halo MCC with resolution set low, frame rate set to limit to 60 FPS and graphics set to performance-getting around 40-50 FPS.
