    I literally bought the E495 from the other deal late last night.

    Is the only real difference between the two, the screen size and the number pad?

      Yes, that's my understanding, screen size and number pad, oh and a smaller "chin" under the screen on the E595, which some seem to find objectionable on the E495.

      The HP may have better battery life, but in pretty much every other way the E595 is better I'd say.

      • The R5 3500u is about the same, performance wise, as the i5-8265U, but graphics wise, the VEGA 8 part of the 3500u stomps all over the UHD Graphics 620 in the 8265U.

      • Storage wise, they both have a 256GB NVMe drive, BUT the E5995 has a provision for adding a 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD, so it can have much more storage.

      • Connectivity, the E595 has an extra USB port. Also, the E595 has a full USB type C interface, while the HP only enables that for data transfer. If you have any other devices that use USB type C for power (phone, Nintendo switch), you can use the power brick for the laptop to also charge these devices, and you can use these other devices to charge the laptop slightly in a pinch. Also, you can use it to connect other devices, such as your phone, a monitor, or all sorts of other things. The HP can do almost none of this.

      • RAM, the HP doesn't appear to have user upgradable or replaceable RAM, the E595 comes with a 8GB RAM stick and an empty RAM slot for adding more RAM. 8GB may seem like enough now, but in a year or two, it may not be.

      • Size and weight. The HP is smaller and lighter, but that of course means that it has a much smaller screen.

      I'd get the E595 personally, as it's also nice and easy to upgrade the RAM. The only real downside is that if you use the wifi, you'll want to replace the wifi/bluetooth card with a Intel 9260 Wireless-AC for $25 and add another 8GB RAM for $55 and it should give you many years of faithful service.

        I ended up ordering the E495. Does your comment about the Wifi card for the E595 apply to the E495 as well? If so, is the 9260 whitelisted in the bios? In my old X230 almost no cards are whitelisted.

          Hi cv05,

          Yes, the E495 and E595 use the same card for bluetooth and wifi. You may be lucky, some people seem to have no trouble with what it comes with, but if you do have trouble with Wifi, that card absolutely fixes it. Lenovo no longer have a blacklist or whitelist for wifi cards, so this one works without any trouble.

          Yes, very easy. I'll copy and paste from a comment I left earlier about this for you…

          Much cheaper to DIY a RAM upgrade, and that doesn't affect warranty. It's also not difficult to do. All the screws holding the bottom cover on are small captive Phillips heads, so you don't need to worry about losing them. Once they're all undone, a spudger or guitar pick between the plastic bottom cover and the metal top cover to separate the two halves along both sides and along the bottom and it comes off relatively easily. Once the bottom over is off, the RAM is easily accessible, as is the NVMe drive and the 2.5" SATA drive bay.

          Here's a picture of inside mine, with extra RAM added and a Seagate Barracuda SSD (which I do not recommend, as this isn't compatible with the E595 at this time): Inside my E595

      Because that is referring to a spinning platter hard disk drive in the internal 2.5" SATA drive bay. It comes with a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD, but there is nothing in the 2.5" drive bay, which you can put a 2.5" HDD or SSD into to add more storage without disturbing your main storage.

      if you log in and look at your order details, there should be a line item called "Delivery days:". mine says ships in 6-9 biz days" for a default non-customize base unit order. For a customized order, then it will state longer like 10-14 biz days before it will ship from china.

      When I ordered before Xmas & was in the same boat as you (time from order & assume a base unit), this is what I got from chat:

      …Ships in 6-9 business days and delivery may take 3-5 business days from the date of shipping.

      So worst case it can take 3 weeks (21 days) :-(

      Regarding the "Expected to Ship" date on the order status page:

      …will be updated after 3-5 business days from the date of order being placed.

        hmmm..so how long in total days did it take for your order to arrive finally? (granted a part of the delay could be attributed to the xmas peak shipping period…

        lenovo's order process / status reporting really needs an upgrade in today's orders fulfillment standards….or are fulfillment processes in the pc competitive landscape all similar standards, i wonder. just too used to shopping at amazon lol

          I ordered on the 29th Nov, and it arrived on the 11th Dec, so under 2 weeks & was 8 business days. BTW, it arrived in Australia on the 9th (so 2 days to separate the shipment & send my box via DHL). Most of it is probably building/finishing it in China, I'm guessing.

              @dingdong3000: For my inital 1st order, i charged the purchase via paypal. On paypal, it reflected "temporary authorizsation" of the amount hitting my debit card. When i cancelled that order 1 biz day later, it took another 6 days for the amt to return or "refund" to my debit balance. am guessing for cancellations, lenovo simply lets the temp authorization on that amount expire after a week -> which seems to indicate they don't take the actual funds payment until they actually ship out the item.
