Update
Promo Code NATION10% gets an extra 10% off
$719.10 with code applied.

Update 2
Now 12.5% cashback through Shopback.com bringing the price down to $620.76!! Now finished.

Update 3
The HP website has now updated the page as a back to school deal so it might be available for longer.

This has been online for quite a while and I am surprised that no one else has posted it yet.
Seems like quite a good deal with these specs-

Intel® Core™ i5-8265U (1.6 GHz base frequency, up to 3.9 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)
Windows 10 Home 64
13.3" diagonal FHD IPS BrightView micro-edge WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (onboard)
256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

Seems quite similar to this from JB that was $999 over the holidays but is now back to $1299.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-envy-13-aq1025tu-13-3-…

The envy has the newer 10th gen i5 and a touch screen but other than that they seem almost the same.
Will not likely be up for much longer so better be quick.

  • Also has similar specs to the Acer deal but is $200 cheaper.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/509848

I checked out the Acer at JB today and while it is super light I think that the HP metal body will feel better in the hand.

    • Do you know which has better battery life and whether this laptop can be charged via USB C?

      • Reading on the site, the specs say data only.

      • It can, over the Thunderbolt 3 port. I've got the laptop and tested it.

        • yep just bought it. Charging it with my phone charger, it's not fast but it works :D

Do you know if charging it via this port will damage the laptop in anyway?

        • Are you sure it's the same laptop?

This doesnt have thunderbolt, it has usb 3.1 gen 1 (at least according to the spec sheet).

  • Would anyone have any experience with the battery life of this laptop? Might be a good laptop for the kids for school

    • +1

Unfortunately not but I did find this review of it (well the i7 version).
Looks pretty good and I will probably pick one up for the wife instead of the Acer.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7JMSaz4TJc

      • The review notes the silly location of the fingerprint sensor. I assume you can turn off fingerprint ID? Anyone know?

        • +5

          You can turn off anything

  • +4

    1.3kg, pretty good

  • +1

Is there and CR OR SB cash back deals? Good if you are going oveseas
    Less than 900 dollar mark.

    • Dam 30mins to eager

    • Would be great to add this in OP
      @pepto

      • Sorry took me a while

        • No worries at all! This only makes it a better deal :)

  • Might be cheaper than provided comparisons due to no touchscreen?

  • I bought one for $719.10, using Promo Code NATION10% to gets an extra 10% off

  • Would this laptop be able to play games like iracing ? Sorry I am not that savvy in this space

    • +1

No. There is a dell g3 which was 899 after cashback which would be good for it. Might have to wait for a sale though.

  • Don't forget cashrewards for further 2.45%(about $20) discount

    • How do you do that???

      • Using Promo Code NATION10% to gets an extra 10% off

    • +1

promo code not listed on cashrewards so be careful cashback could get rejected

      • +1

I got a message saying it is tracked and $19 was added ro the account.

  • Purchased. Thanks

  • +1

Similar to E495 specs. TA regularly posts deals around the same price ($710-$740): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/lenovo-thinkpad-e495

    • +2

Not similar at all, 1.3kg vs 1.7+kg

    • Also the E495 factory is in China, gonna be closed until 2 Feb for Chinese New Year. Then takes 10 working days to build and another week to deliver. I cancelled my order today for the TA deal

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3500U CPU V Intel® Core™ i5-8265U, which one is better?

    • +1

According to the synthetic benchmarks the Core i5-8265U emerged as a clear winner in this challenge. Despite its lower Base frequency and a larger die, the Intel contender managed to grasp the win from the Ryzen 5 3500U. In theory, both processors should provide similar performance when put in the same conditions.

      https://laptopmedia.com/comparisons/amd-ryzen-5-3500u-vs-int…

      • Tks

        • No problem. I personally prefer the look of the HP too.

        • +1

Next generation 4000 series AMD Ryzen will have much better power usage.

    • +7

The Ryzen if you care about integrated GPU performance

Can someone explain the cashback process to me??? Do I just buy with the cashback and it automatically gives me the cashback???

  • +2

Many reviews seem to point out wifi issues with this model

    https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-Processor-Solid-State-13-…

Annoying as I was looking at getting this over the Acer

    • +8

Read through the reviews and found these two-

"Hello everyone. First off, IGNORE all the reviews that say wifi issues. I am a computer tech and their problem isnt the computer itself it is McAfee. It disables your internet and wifi access for no reason sometimes. Uninstall that and it will work gloriously. Download malwarebytes and use the free version. That is a strong enough anti virus. This computer is a great notebook. Strong, durable, and light. It's quite powerful and can do everything you need. I recommend it."

"Nice laptop, no connection issues after uninstalling McAfee."

Looks like is related to the anti virus software and disabling it and installing something else is a simple fix.

  • How does this compare to the acer swift 5?

    • +1

Acer is lighter, has a matte touchscreen and a newer 10th gen i5 processor.

This I think is a better looking device, has better speakers and unless you are doing anything heavy duty with it you shouldn't notice any difference in performance. Plus with the vice and cashback is 300 bucks cheaper.

      • +2

Besides, it has SD Card reader for those of us who still carry a camera around.

      • Is this screen matte or glossy? I have a surface pro at the moment but I want to change to a matte screen.

        • +1

Looks like glossy for the HP but the Acer is matte and has a better colour accuracy and higher brightness.

Coming from a surface pro the HP would seem like a downgrade so the Acer would be better for you IMO.

          • @pepto: Thanks a lot and I can charge via USB c too :)

    • The Acer has Thunderbolt 3, USB-C charging, a better screen (colour accuracy and brightness), a touchscreen AND a 54Wh battery (much better battery life overall, the HP only has 37.7Wh battery). Newer 10th Gen i5 and the Wifi chip (Intel AX201) also supports 802.11ax.

  • +1

Got it for $694, after promo code and cashback. Pretty sick deal!!!

    • How?

    • Hopefully cashback sticks with the use of the promo code not listed on SB and CR sites.

  • 220 nits… Yucky

    • +2

Yeah, it isn't the best but is comparable to other laptops at this price range.
The Acer has a brighter screen with much better colour accuracy but is 44% more expensive!

I am still using a 2013 Macbook Air and after looking it up I can see that its max brightness is 300 nits and we rarely use it at max, so 220 should be ok for us…especially at this price!

    • +2

220 with a glossy screen? Will not be usable outdoors.

      I'll pass.

      • +1

        This.
I'm writing this from my new HP Pavilion 13 while outdoors and it's barely usable.
        You have my vote, sir.

  • Anyone know if you could you use this for video editing? Just to run premiere pro and edit basic 1080p youtube videos.

    • Shouldn't be a problem, but the screen isn't the best for colour accuracy.
If you want to do photo/ video editing and have a goo representation of the colours then the acer deal is probably the better bet because the screen is a it brighter and much more colour accurate.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/509848

      • +1

But then, you can connect a decent monitor to the laptop and get accurate colours and bigger picture.

    • I think, it will struggle without dedicated separate graphics card.

  • Can anyone recommend a 1TB SSD which will fit the laptop? Looking to swap it out upon arrival! Thanks 🙏

    • Is it able to be swapped , or is it soldered in place.

      • I have an HP Elitebook 1030 3G for work and when the SSD died an engineer came and swapped it out. He said most of the laptops are the same.

    • Samsung 960 or 970 Pro, of course… if you're looking at using it as your main machine (or a lot). Depends on how much you want to spend, though.

  • ordered one, says delivery date not available, but hope it doesn't take too long.

    • Same for me but during the order process it showed 3-14 days. Need it for a birthday present in 2 weeks so I hope it makes it in time!

      • Got one also…. Away O/S in 7 days, fingers crossed. TRS would be good bonus though not overly confident will arrive b4 departure.

  • Can anyone recommend a similarly-featured laptop with a touchscreen/pen?

    • The two deals I mention in the original post and my first post directly after it have touch screens but not sure about the pen.

At this stage the Acer is probably the better deal but haven't seen anything mentioned about a pen for that model.

  • Cheers OP. Got 1 for daughter starting high school. meets requirements. Used Nation10 code. Hoping for del this week ( though not confident ) trs on o/s trip would sweeten deal.

  • +1

    What about this one?

    https://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx…

Does this 4G tablet deserve its own deal?

Its only $989 after the coupon code.

    • Keen to get people's thoughts on this as well - looks like quite the deal

    • +1

Yes it probably does because it is very cheap but I read that HP completely messed up the kick stand and keyboard on this i5 version compared to the original Snapdragon version.

I was really excited when I first saw the deal but and saw great reviews of the Snapdragon version but after more research I decided not to go there.

  • Is this touch screen ?

    • Nope

  • 14" Probook is more suitable, for me.

  • I had taken a vow that I would never buy HP laptop but I have taken a chance with this deal. Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP. Just a pity I couldn't piggyback the offer with 20% off at paypal upto $40 with Amex that expired on the 31st Dec or some other sweet Amex deal.

  • Can other OZB-ers convince me whether I should get this or the E495 next time TA gets another code/deal @ $711?

In terms of tech specs , looks the same bar the chipsets, but does anyone know which chipset is better?

The E495 has the things I prefer; matte screen, bigger battery and the Lenovo keyboard.

Overall, just want something that'll boot quick and not stutter when there are various different programs (Adobe etc.) and large Excel workbooks open simultaneously.

    • +2

Lenovo E495 has the following cons:
      - big bottom bezel
      - average battery life
      - bad wifi unless you're very close to modem/router.
      - Ctrl & Fn keys swapped around - not ideal for gaming/typing.

    • +3

I think the biggest difference is that even though this HP is priced at the level of a budget laptop it made of metal, is reasonably slim and sleek and other than the screen looks like a premium product. I have the HP Elitebook 1030 3G for work and while it is a tiny bit smaller it does look quite similar but costs nearly 4 times as much.

The Lenovo looks just like a basic plastic office laptop and is bigger and heavier. Nothing wrong with that at this price level but the HP looks a lot better.

  • +1

Guys I purchased this laptop. I got an email for the order confirmation. In the email it also mentioned a "carepack and extended warranty" does anyone know what's that about???

    • +1

It means you get 1 year accidental damage plus pickup and return service.

  • Thanks OP, just bought one today. The Shopback.com.au today have 12% cashback for HP Australia. With the 10% off code plus 12% cashback, the total cost = $632.72
    It's a good bargain.

    • +1

Ditto I ordered through the ShopBack app too. They have been dodgy with cash back in the past so I’ve taken a screen shot of my purchase.

      • How long will the cashback last till???

      • Cause I already bought the laptop for $695 with the cash rewards cashback and promo code but was thinking of canceling my order to save the $70. I called Hp and they said that they can cancel my order but it'll can take up to 2 weeks for the money to get transferred back into my account. So if this deal lasts for more than 2 weeks, then I'll cancel my order and go with this cashback.

      • I received an email from Shopback with few miniatures after completed my order. They confirmed my purchase and cashback as well.

        • Do you know how long the cashback offer of 12% last till?

          • @Mani88: Sorry, I haven no idea. I just found it this morning.

  • Not complaining but no idea how it was calculated - Shopback cash back tracked @ $98.34. Total $620.76.

    • Think it was done on the RRP including the accidental damage insurance.

    • Great deal! I was just about to cancel mine and re order through Shopback but then I saw that it has already shipped.
Anyone got any idea how much it costs to return an order to HP?

      • Not sure but it looks like you are responsible for the postage back. Could always refuse delivery.

How to return an unwanted item

To return a product, please call HP on 13 23 47 for assistance. To help us deal with your request as quickly as possible, please have your original order number ready.

You are responsible for all costs of returning a product back to HP under this Change of Mind Policy.

  • How long did it take for the Cashback to be tracked for everyone?

I saw a post saying it was tracked within minutes, but I've been waiting for over an hour and wonder if I did anything wrong? Thanks

    • +1

Shopback tracked in just over an 1 hr.
