So from a quick search seems to say $49 is a normal fare? Car $98.

    • +1

Correct, usually $98 return per person, now $30 and like op says vehicle fares are unchanged

    • Thank you. I have added the vehicle fare into the description.

I believe the government are currently offering a similar one way deal to Christmas island

    • +49

That deal has already gone viral

Comment of the year already in feb?

Maybe buy return. You know, in case of fire?

    • Just trying to protect the good people of OZb…

so you get across to the island. then what. you either twiddle your thumbs in kingston or rent a car for some ridiculous price. not really a useful discount if you actually want to see the island.

    • +1

Basically yes. First time I went over I hired a car for a few days. Was fairly expensive and there was a restriction that you couldn't drive it out of a built up area after sunset as the hire company wouldn't insure you so I was restricted to daytime only. Took own car the following time.

      • Is that because of the Kangaroos?

        • Pretty much. Not such a problem now though

  • +4

so, the only way visiting kangaroo island was possible for the plebs is in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

    The ferry prices were exorbitant.

  • +8

Tbh I kinda hope nobody goes. The prices before hand were absolutely disgusting, now there’s a natural disaster they put the price down to probably cost price, and expect people to go there and spend their cash when you can get $299 return air fairs to Tokyo.

I hope this is a learning curve for everybody, high prices when it’s popular doesn’t outway the years of people now not going and y’all now be lucky to get cost price.

    • +3

Exactly… Looked at the fair last year and desided not to go… Simply radiculas considering you are paying premium when you get there…

    • +6

Agree absolutely. I went to KI in September last year during the AFL Grand Final long weekend, and the price for 6 persons and a people mover was $800. This was the biggest expense of our 3 day trip and I don't think it's justified charging this much for a 45 minute ferry ride. As much as I'm devastated by the havoc caused by the fires to this wonderful place, I don't think I would want to support SeaLink.

  • The Island has a lot of snakes so remember to bring a snake repellent spray.

    • +1

      Or a whacking stick….

      • -1

definitely not - take one to Canberra and you'll be shot

        • I meant a snake whacking stick, not a pollie whacking stick…

          • @[Deactivated]: worried about your secret trial - it'll be alright - no press allowed -no family members - no reporting - you'll just be gone like our other secret prisoners - mostly whistleblowers - that's what makes this country so great these days - we lock people up secretly who tell the truth - and we spy on everyone secretly.

      • Fast. Then slow..

And under no circumstances play any Barry White songs.

    • so has Canberra

  • Please note that due to bush fire, Remarkable Rock and the national parks around it have been closed until further notice. I only found out that after I bought the ferry tickets. Anyway, there're still plenty of other things to see and do there.
