John Boston Pale Ale 330ml - $36 Per Carton (24 Single Bottles) C&C @ BWS

590

Similar deal to my earlier Little Creatures one (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/505116).

John Boston Pale Ale single bottles are on sale for $2 each.

Add 8 or more of them and it will trigger the '25% of mix and match craft beers' promo, making them $1.50 each.

e.g. 24x single bottles = $36 ($34.20 with 5% off gift card).

I also received a spend $40+ & earn 1000 rewards points promo - so perhaps check your inbox & add a few more singles on if it applies to you.

UPDATE:It's back to $2 a bottle

Great deal however I think the points promo is user-specific. Mine is $60+ spend for 1000pts :(

Just had a look out of curiosity.
Case price for me was $50, but if you do as OP described and add 24 x single bottles, at checkout showed $36

      nice find OP

Similar deal to my earlier Little Creatures one

If only the taste was the same

  • +2

It's not amazing stuff. It's made by the McCain chips brand and exclusive to Woolworths, so you could be forgiven for thinking it's Woolworths home brand.

That's why it's always on sale. It has never not been made by a big brand and you can taste it.

However, at $1.50 per bottle it's definitely not bad.

    • +3

When they were first released (maybe around 2012) they were independent, Woolies then got a hold of them and scaled the product back a bit. Used to be around 5.5% alc/vol and have a decent bit of flavour, but it's pretty mild these days.

I got these as a 'switcheroo' for my $10 Iron Jack carton.

In summary, 4/4 of us were impressed. To me it feels like a dry hoped Pale Ale. So not over bearing.

      $36..lock it in

      • +1

Iron jack is right up there with Great Northern…. balls

    • They are a Woolworths home brand. McCain just uses it as an ingredient.

      • Technically not, they're not produced with any Woolies branding and the company could pull the agreement at any stage. Home brand implies Woolies branding and also that the product was developed specifically for that purpose - this was a widely available product before the agreement.

        Exclusivity is the correct wording.

        • It is owned and produced by Woolworths. That’s what I was getting at.

          • @Richfield: Is it? Never used to be - but I can't do any research on my work PC because all alcohol stuff is blocked.

You mentioning it has, though, brought up a deep memory that I can't quite nail down, maybe they bought half the company so that they could control it? Sounds familiar, but they did the same with Sail and Anchor in WA

            • @pdtmathieson: My mistake, I misread my own link. It's definitely owned and produced by Woolworths, but McCain puts it on their chips.

              Home brand beer.

But it's worth repeating, for $1.50 it's actually great value.

              • @zzymurgy: McCain are a Canadian company. It's pretty unlikely they would own or even want to own an Australian beer brand.

            • @pdtmathieson: Your work blocks alcohol websites? Are they afraid you're going to waste the hours away staring at graphic and disgusting photos of beer cans and wine bottles?

  • These are absolutely amazing!

i still haven't finished my 4 little creatures cases from last deal, so i only ordered 1 case this time. thanks OP.

    • +1

You'll be disappointed by the comparison I think

      • i bought a 6 pack for $8 last week, i didn't mind the taste considering the price tag, its cheaper than water.

        • +1

My water costs $2.63 per kilo-litre.

        • I'm going to ignore the second part, but the first part is right - it's a perfectly fine beer, just not going to set the world on fire.

          • @pdtmathieson: was in Melbourne last week on a 40C+ day, my $8 was well spent and they tasted great under that situation.

  • Out of stock everywhere on the North Shore / Northern Beaches Sydney.

  • +2

Lots of stock in Syd East. Cheers OP

  • +1

$4.50 in qld in both app and online.

  • +2

Welp, that's that folks. They're onto it.

I am a little surprised they made the same stuff up again, but they caught on a little quicker this time…

    • +1

I have a good feeling that BWS IT team scouts ozbargain for any stuffups that the BWS marketing/sales promo team commits.

Usually 'too good to be true' deals like this gets closed fairly quick.

      • I doubt they'd need to.
Just monitor the surge in demand for some random item.
Both my orders for this and the Little Creatures were tagged for a Security Check by their system.

  • $2 for me in any 24

  • +2

Thanks OP just got an order confirmation for a case of 24 @ $36.00

  • +1

      • Weird, seems like a lot of their website stuff is automated, and poorly too.
